This video outlines the step required to replace the brake master cylinder on GM full size SUV's and trucks years 99-07. This truck developed a leaking master cylinder that we discovered after replacing a rear brake line.
If you have issues with brake fluid leaking from underneath the drivers side front tire, you may have an issue with the brake master cylinder leaking oil down the vehicles firewall and onto the ground.
The process for replacing the master cylinder on gm trucks and SUV's is the same, but the master cylinders are slightly different. The truck shown in this video is a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500. Reference the parts listed below to double check that you have the right master cylinder for your vehicle

When bleeding new master cylinder on the vise, did you drain that fluid before you put it on the truck? If not, how did you get the connectors off and new lines on without fluid draining out?

My brakes are locking up in the front only when im going down hill, ive replaced the pads, rotors, lines and just about everything else you can in the front end brake wise, would the master cylinder fix my issue? My brake light is on and off every other time i turn my truck on but from what i can see its not losing any fluid from there or anywhere else which is what confuses me the most

Do you think the master cylinder will cause all 4 brakes to slightly drag? I can release each one when I open the bleeder screw. Once I drive it for about 3-7 minutes it starts back dragging. I say slightly dragging because I can jack up the truck and turn them by hand with a lot of force. No leaks on the master cylinder or hydro boost. I’ve greased slider pins, bleeding the brakes 3 times, topped off the fluid on both power steering and brake fluid. It’s a 2004 Suburban with hydro boost system. Please help.

Do you think this would take care of my soft brakes? It doesn’t engage until halfway down on the pedal.

Bleeding can definitely improve. You may also need to auto bleed using a scan tool.

I’m having trouble with a 2004 Suburban and all 4 brakes are dragging slightly and the power steering is whining when I turn. The brakes will only release whenever I open the bleeder screw. HELP!!

I bled my master cylinder in my 2006 suburban and i took almost 2 quarts to fill reservoir. Is that normal? I replaced all my brake lines. And that seemed just too much for the master cylinder.

I have a question when I called auto zone to get the part yhe needed to know what kind of brake system my truck had , how do I know or find out what brake system I have?

I would reference the RPO codes they are listed in your glove box! Those will tell you all the options your truck has!

What is the black coil looking part with the plug in wires on the vacuum booster
@FixItFarm
@FixItFarm 3 года назад
That is actually a Brake Booster vacuum pump. If you pull the line off with your engine on you should hear/feel the pump kick on. Once it reaches the desired vacuum it powers off.

Where do you get the parts to bleed the master cylinder?
@FixItFarm
@FixItFarm Год назад
I just picked these up at my local O’rielly autoparts store. Most stores have a selection of brass fittings behind the counter!

This is probably a long shot but is there any way that you could tell me if you know, what is the diameter for the flare nuts that go into the master cylinder? Anybody? The kid at AutoZone told me it was 3/8 and that's way too small.🤦‍♂️

Very well done. I do have one suggestion, you mention using WD40, as do so many on youtube do, to spray on bleeders to loosen them up. You are far better off using a quality penetrating oil that has capillary action to work it's way up the threads. WD40 does not have that ability, but it is better than nothing at all. Nicely done.
@FixItFarm
@FixItFarm 2 года назад
Good suggestion. I use Kroil often in my shop and that’s usually my go to penetrating oil.
