The last installment on the brake work that was done to this truck. The master cylinder was leaking from the back where it goes inside the booster. It might have been easier to pump the cylinder after installation rather than trying to complete this task on the table. Either way, the job is finished and the brake lines bleed for a solid feel.

Instead of bench bleeding can i do it with the master cylinder installed and use the pedal?

Do you know which port is which on the Master Cylinder? I'm putting on new brake lines and one says front port and one says rear port? 1999 Silverado

It is usually the front one, but both lines should go into the proportioning valve.

I changed the master cylinder bleed it and had someone help me pump the pedal, but the pedal still goes all the way down? Any suggestions please

I would bleed the entire system , starting at the rear and working forward. You have air in the system somewhere most likely.

How do you bleed a 2009 Chevy Impala master cylinder? After installing in car, the peddle is too soft.

Sadly, I have seen many rebuilt parts that were bad out of the box. Either new or OEM parts.

How do you know what size master cylinder to get? Parts store gave me two size options?

This unit was supplied as a model with rear drum brakes vs. discs.

There was none there. System has been working without issue.

Should not unless seal at back or part that goes into booster seal is worn

My 06 Silverado front brakes keep locking up after 15-20 min of use and I have to let fluid out to keep the truck going,just installed new master and booster

Have you check the brake lines, sometimes they do not show signs of wear, but prevent fluid flow.

I was able to match with the vehicle VIN number, make and model. I do not believe there was a part number on the cylinder.

I put new front lines in my 05 Silverado. I was told to have the ignition to on position while pumping brakes. Is this right?

I dont see a need for it as nothing electrical would pressurize any of the hydraulic brake components.

Good to know, but I have not had an issue with bleeding the brakes the traditional way or with vaccum assit.

On my 2002 Chevy Silverado my brakes suddenly sunk. When I drive the pedal goes to the floor before stopping then after a couple seconds it will lose brake and start moving again. When vehicle is off I can pump the brake and it will become solid. Do I just need a master cylinder or do I also need a new brake booster?

The booster is vacuum assist, so if your pedal goes to the floor then it is probably a leak in the master cylinder.

It seems that many of the new rebuilt parts are having issues. Maybe have to go with an OEM part. I have replies from people who are on their third unit. Seems there are not to many quality rebuilders.

Do I need to install the rubber ring gasket with my cylinder? It came with it.

Depends on what shape yours is in. You want it to be pliable, so if it is still feeling like rubber than you probably could skip it. But if you got one in the box, it is not a bad idea to just replace it together.

@@mrfixit4211 mine is just like in the video but I didn't see no gasket when you installed the master cylinder. Mine came with the o ring gasket but it doesn't fit right

There was not ring included with the one I installed. If yours does not fit correctly and the old one is in good shape there should be no reason why you can not reuse it. There has been no issues thus far.
