Thank you for this VERY video. You make it so simple to see and understand . I’m doing my 04 5.3 liter v8 XLT 4x4 this weekend . I’m replacing upper and lower and control arms. I’ll have my phone and watching this video next to me step by step as you go doing exactly as you do . Thank you for your time and patience in making this video for people like me. Just wanted to thank you for the video by following yours and another I was able to do this. As long as I was going to have everything torn out I decided to do it all. I did both control arms, both ball joints, the outer tie rods and the sway bars (on both sides). Looking at the parts after I'm glad I did, the bushings were almost shot on most of them and I'm sure I would have been going back in to replace eventually. People asking on time, it took me 12-15 hours but I needed to rest my back frequently, I was also pretty meticulous, and I was going very slow and re-watching videos to make sure I was doing it right. Now that I know what I'm doing I figure I could do a side in 4-5 hours. So it was some time but I figured it was worth the $1500+ I saved. The two things that took me the longest were the upper arms and the pressing the upper ball joints out and in. The control arm is just so narrow to get a wrench in, it's not hard, just time consuming (30-40 min) with such a long bolt and using a wrench. Plus being bent over I had to take breaks but I got it eventually. The upper ball joints did not come out or go in easily. Next time I'm taking the knuckle into my mechanic, he said he'd press them out and in for just a few bucks. When I do my I took it to my trusted mechanic after for an alignment and also asked him to give it a once over and he gave it an A+ on the install.
Bobs Xtra you’re welcome.... upper control arms, you have to cut a little of inner fender metal there with a sawzal or grinder. Upper ball joins took me like 3hours to take out(I made it on video look easy but it pain in the butt). Other then that it pretty easy with a right tools and if it’s not killed with the salt(rotten).
@@MrSolar. I used a kit from 1AAuto. It had upper, lower and tie rods. They have a generic and a name brand. I went with the less expensive kit just in case I got into it, decided it was beyond me and had to take it to my mechanic. Now that I know I can do it, I'll probably go with the name brand when I do the wife's.
I gota 2004 trailblazer 4x4 i just changed the upper control arm and lower both sides and ball joints upper and lower also struts and both sides the shop wanted almost $3000 bucks also i changed the back shocks and sway bag links in back and also in the front alltogether it cost me $387 and a can od wd 40 lol it took me a full day to do the repairs myself it diffently saved a few bucks but anyways these swing arms aka control arms are faulty and the bolts can back out very easy i used lock tight and cheater bar also the ball joints go out in this setup very easy but you did a great job these suspension set ups are flawed from the get go
Hello I have a question. I did my entire lower control arm and upper ball joint replacement on my 2008 trailblazer. After assembling everything back together with the steering wheel straight, the tire is off center slightly to the right but the passanger side is straight. Would you have any input on that?
You have to adjust your steering as close as possible from an eye view and then you need to do an alignment ASAP. Check out link from a wheel to a steering rack. It’s adjustable with a wrench.
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE because when I look at how the ball joint gets pushed over with a leveling kit, it looks like there will be excessive wear and a possibility of the springs rubbing.
@@TheKlickitat you have to swap the upper control arms left to right and flip them. I just put a 2 inch lift in my rear and doing 3 inch in my front this week/weekend.
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE i just mean the audio seemed to have a problem so it sounded "off" or incorrect. It could have been something with my computer though. It also works for Saab 9-7x which is what I'm working on.
I thought I noticed when the hub cap fell, it sounded off before then but I said to myself "That fell way too fast." Good job anyway, just was curious. :)
Ok. As he was pushing upper ball joint out with the C clamp it would've been better if you showed exactly what was placed under the ball joint in the C clamp to allow the ball joint to fall thru. Only a few of us are able to figure it out on our own.
This is a lot of manual labor imagine if you had a ratcheting wrench set and electric ratchet would cut the time in half. I cant stand doing jobs like this without them anymore i fell into being lazy lol
All these videos of upper and lower control arms ball joint and so on WITHOUT TORQUE SPECS!. Torque spec, are very important and should be disclosed in your and everyone's videos.
