It's funny how the coneheads are super strong, have several layers of teeth, and are very durable. Yet, they die to this creature in seconds. Really makes you fear how badass this creature must truly be.
lol its too funny on multiple levels. A. Beldar even gets the joke after all this time on Earth and B. The look on the dudes face for a split second of "wtf is he on a bout?" - lol
The head cone's face when he sings "eh eh" at 2:27 is Priceless!! Just today (12/29/23) I was in the grocery store & this song came on, & I flashed back to this scene, & started singing along Boisterously. Most folks just looked at me sideways & moved away, but the 2 older blue collar Schmoe's stocking the meat section said "Gnarfle the Garthock" & I gave them both Knowing fist bumps. Ahhhh, sofaking much more fun than Boring holiday family gatherings or x-mas music in the store!!!!!
I really wanted the other guy to say something like he'll be here all week or something. I Dont know if it was just a Men in Black joke or some old crazy theory, but thought alien Elvis joke would be great.
Really is astonishing the amount of work that went into such a short time on screen monster. Tippett is a real dedicated artist alright. The stop motion is beautiful and a joy to behold. ;)
I think it's because he doesn't usually do well in a leading role. He excels at ensembles (see Ghostbusters, Sneakers) or co-leads (e.g., Blues Brothers, Spies Like Us) or as a supporting actor where he has other highly skilled performers to bounce things off of, but when he has to hold the screen more or less on his own (Dr. Detroit, numerous supporting roles where he's the focus of a few scenes), he's not as solid.
@Kobobble That's true since that one Conehead was calling the Coneheads one by one on whoever saw the Conehead Master in which order and that one before Beldar was supposed to be the third one next since he was before Beldar.
There is a very rare extended and slightly longer opening to the Garthok arena fight, with the lady coneheads behind the Highmaster opening the ceremony with a song. Which seems to have or do something with the Garthok. This is why Bel dar supposedly starts singing out of nowhere.
Lagtard the Black Conehead/ disgraced guardsman at the beginning was the same guy who was the Ladies Man on SNL I am betting Lagtard tried to charm the wrong lady to get his sentence
My god your stupid, the country with one of the highest immigrant intakes in the world is the most xenophobic? I see you've never tried to live in North Korea, Saudi Arabia or Egypt have you?
This thing is seriously cool, and the stop motion is particularly good...but I submit that the Dark Overlord at the end of Howard the Duck is more bad ass...
Can we take a moment to appreciate just how awesome the animation and graphics of that thing are for that time period???……I would argue that animation and graphics work makes recent works look like trash like 30 years later…….
I didn't like this movie as a kid. I thought it was weird, and confusing, and the characters and plot were scary. I don't like it as an adult. I love it. Beldar's rendition of "Tainted Love" has lived in my head, rent free, for over 20 years and I'll probably take it to my grave
@h81234 Of course at the same time, if he didn't take his boss Otto's advice to change the look of his teeth, the Conehead master wouldn't have made him fight the Garthok.
Having to show my 5 year old son this movie because we named our dog Mebs and he thought I was messing with him when I told him it said gnarfle the garthok on her dog tag
There was a scene cut where he beheads the Gathok, in the wide shot after this scene you can see the head by the throne and also why Beldar is covered with blue blood.
