Moving footage of a beautiful engine! I love the long, lazy throw of the piston-rods. Pity the other footage available here has aspect-ratio problems - ruins it!
This video is very 1980s. It's so amazing how this engine, the FIRST of the class, was still operating back in the 1980s after what, 108 years or so? These engines look so elegant too, and they were very fast for their time. The footage is great (and very 1980s because it is the 1980s)!
The lines and proportions of the Stirling Single are so beautifully perfect. I reckon Ancient Greek Architects like Iktinus would have approved! I love the way 19th century engines are so loud, presumably because of the huge chimneys. Interesting to see a Gresley teak express coach parked there in blue/silver BR livery.
