It's the same with every teams I make. I think opponent are not really selected randomly. The first series of the day, they will put easy team for you, them they will put more and more counters. So, I do only 2 series per day and my level is increasing fast.
Small detail: You said Mawile resists all moves on your team except Earthquake. It doesn't. Since Fairy is weak to steel, Flash Cannon actually deals neutral damage.
0:48 “Almost no one would probably predict a double grass” Me-*laughs in triple grass video* I’m just messing around. Triple grass was horrible. But awesome for you being able to pull it off
A lot of people definitely tried your team. I've seen 2 teams like this today. I start with thunder fang steelix, clefable and deoxys def, was able to put them down twice. Switching to shiftry - I switch to clefable.
I actually don't have a Frenzy Plant Meganium, but what I do have is a Tropius with Air Slash and Leaf Blade, and it did really well for me, especially in matchups against other grass types because they'd expect Razor Leaf instead, the double Grass thing is really smart on your end, I don't think I've seen it before, I did see double Ground like both Swampert and Whiscash, which I gladly took on with my Tropius, and sometimes even double Flying, Altaria and Skarmory in the same team, I completely destroyed these with my Probopass, knowing exactly what to lead with can be very tricky though. Your team is excellent but very specifically Anti-Meta, if you faced an opponent with an unexpected, more diverse team I believe it would still struggle a bit, looking at your team my team is very catered to take it on for example: Probopass, Blaziken & Tropius. Fantastic team though, your commentary is quite good too, this is my first time seeing your videos and I really enjoyed it!
100% agree with your points here! I was mostly sick of seeing the same mons in GBL great league so the timing of my line for me personally worked really well. Safe to say, people adapted and changed things up, which was definitely refreshing to see :)
Solid team! I'm gonna invest in Shiftry and give it a try. I've been running legacy Dewgong, Alolan Marowak, and Medicham with Psychic and PuP. Love seeing other non meta teams!!
Great work, bro!! I really hate giving up switch priority in GBL, so building a team that sacrifices switch priority so often totally blew my mind! Double Grass is also crazy hard to pull off, but you play it so well! Very GG's! Also, I will have more Granbull spice for you very soon! 👀
10 minutes after watching this video i started my 1 set of five matches and on the fourth match i went up against this team...was tough but because i expected it since he made the exact same switches as you i was able to anticipate and counter him and take the match
I would like to congratulate you that tonight one famous Japanese streamer uses your line up and finds great success by gaining 100 point in 25 matches. Hope this would help your channel grow by reaching wider audiences.
Apart from fire pokemons, one concern of your line up is that shiftry would be fainted very fast when faced with charmers. But strangely, it seems not many trainers in top rank uses them.
@@withcarename Very good point! And yes, that's true, mainly because the prevalence of Registeel makes it a hard losing matchup if they get locked into that head to head. Charmers either win really hard or lose really hard so it's a gamble. Even against my team, if they lead with a charmer, they likely have lost as well.
I used Fire Fang Mawile as a lead with 890 CP, not even powered up all the way, and still went 4-1 on a set at rank 7 lol it's really good and one of my favorite Pokemon in terms of design and typing 👊🏻🔥
This tactic is pretty dope. I have been using team of Jirachi, Mew (psyschock, bulldoze) and Altaria -> Now i switched Altaria with Shiftry and it has changed a lot for me! (for better of course) - Jirachi is like Skarmory ->strong against fighters, fairys! Shiftry is Shiftry and Mew has ground type attack like Meganium (maybe less tanky, but due to its vast movepool my oponnets are disoriented) xD
Thanks for your video. With your advice, you helped this 69 year old woman get an 18 win streak! Best advice I’ve seen on the battles. I’m subscribing. Thanks again! 😆
Ran this team at 2700 yesterday for 25 games. Ran into 6 FF mawiles (all leads) and 5 Aloan Marowaks. Couldn’t beat Mawile teams under any conditions. Lost to 3/5 marowak teams. Also hit two double flyer teams that I couldn’t beat and struggled with galvantula & Dewgong. Still, I really liked the team. @calebpeng- Thank you for the great content. It looks like you’ve single handedly shaped the GL meta though lol.
Hey! I started watching your video because I was actually having trouble with some other mons but turns out if people start using your mons, maybe I should continue using my team ;) Ggs! ~Tiffanini
bro love your viddds!!! watched a few of them and you literally did a step by step explanation for everything which really helped me out in my understanding of go battle league pokemon! Keep it up!
Great battles Caleb! I think you were at 21 straight wins when I saw your post, glad to know we didn't jinx you too hard 😂 Double Grass is def very interesting and with a spammer like Shiftry and a tank like Meg I can see myself giving this a try. I've def seen more than a few double Water lines. Maybe not gonna run the exact same team but in the blind GBL format, trying to get an energy lead with a safe switch like Shiftry (high attack and SOLID moves!) is a great strategy. Thanks for sharing!
Tried out for a set of battles, and in two of them got against a fire pokemon, a Charizard in the back (and still won because it didn't shield the foul play) and a Snorlax-Magcargo-Sableye which i lost by a sliver of health on its sableye. Great comp and really enjoyable
Thanks so much for this awesome team! I really need to try this out, I’ve been struggling ever since hitting rank 8. Can’t believe how many rage quitters there were 😂😂😂 Priceless!
M00SEPUNK I would wager there would be less rage quitters if the lag wasn’t so bad. I try to finish out even losing battles but when you get destroyed purely cuz of lag it’s pretty difficult not to. Especially if it keeps happening. The trick is to not throw ur phone, lol
Timothy Retza I totally agree with you and have had my fair share of lag, but in this video I can tell they are definitely rage quitting and not due to lag.
Hey, Caleb. I could use your input. So I'm running a variation of your team, with Lanturn substituting for Meganium. My thought process for the choice of Lanturn is as follows: - I'm mitigating the triple fire weakness - Skarmory and Shiftry can more than hang with the mudbois, especially with shields gone - Neutral hits on Registeel that gradually add up are more than a win in my book - With some finesse, Lanturn can handle the rockbois (Bastiodon and Probopass) - A harder counter to non-Play Rough Azumarill sounded appealing to me My question to you is what do you reckon are the pros and cons to this?
What could be a good replacement for Meganium if I don’t have one and also don’t have a venusaur? I’m currently going to try this team with a deoxys in hopes I can still cover some matchups.
VersusTheInternet Victribell and Ivysaur are both pretty good grass types. I wouldn’t recommend using Victribell with Shiftry though, makes for quite a glassy team
Believe it or not, when I was using double mud, I narrowly beat a double grass team. Led Skarmory, opponent led Bastiodon. Sac swapped to Swampert, opponent brought in Venusaur, forced a shield, farmed with Skarmory, flash cannoned Bastiodon, switched to Whiscash, and was shocked to see a Meganium, but I landed the blizzard and was able to outpace my opponent to 2 mud bombs before they hit 3 frenzy plants (since I still had both shields), so I was able to win. It was crazy
I only play the main series games. But my signature Pokémon in competitive play is an eviolite Bayleef. (Eviolite is an item that multiplies your defenses by 1.5 if you are a pre evo it makes Bayleef take more hits than meganium) So if any team in any game has a member of the Chickorita family that does well I must watch lol
Hahah that's awesome! My last main series game was Silver (the original, not the remake) so I'm still a bit lost on the nuances of competitive play in that series, but I'll definitely take a look eviolite Bayleef if I ever get back into it :)
Please put the team time stamps into the comments like your follow up video. Using your team now at rank 9 and want to reference the counters easily, please.
Ugh, I hate that I love you. It'd be one thing if you were just meme-y, but this is actually so legit. My friend does double grass, but uses double frenzy plant. I like the Shiftry because regi can't *easily* threaten it
Yeah I was fairly lucky in this streak. There were some small moments of lag but the video is sped up to 250% so it's harder to tell. I would have been heated if my streak ended due to lag
@@kingbigglez4068 so on Awak running Fire spin with Bone club/shadow ball. Sandslash has Powder snow with Ice Punch / Gyro ball and the usual Altaria moves of dragon breath with Dragon Pulse and Sky attack
Love your commentary. I learned a lot. Would it be possible for you to describe more about your thought process on predicting what other pokemon your opponent may have? I understand it at a basic level but could benefit from some insight: examples from a top player. Thanks for the vid.
Amazing team! Really made the gbl a lot more fun for me ! :D One question tho: what happens if your opponent also leads skarmory ? I've seen that some might have an altaria in the back in which case a quick swap to shiftry might be the better play than staying in the skarmory mirror.. I have to run more tests with this team to get confortable. Thank you!
I used the exact same team. Everybody was prepared for it... after this vid everybody expected 2 grass... all were ready. I droped from 2800 to 2746.... thanks
I’ve been in a real great league slump and after watching this I was excited to try out your team, Caleb. Unfortunately my opponents were running different mon. Few times I rant into a Char, wiggly and Clefable. Arrrrgh
Oof. Yeah there's definitely been an adjustment lately. Skar can handle the charmers and even a foul play can almost take out a zard. Hopefully that'll help for next time
While I only nade the prediction 2 times in a row, I was able to beat my opponents knowing that the common theme for this morning was water lead, flyer safe switch. Watching people panic as I started with Shiftry/Victribell/Venasaur, then swap to usually Skarmory for me to swap into Alolan-Raichu was a fun time.
This team is very similar to what I have been using. I have been trying out several different combinations in my team but Meganium has always stayed in my teams.
Can't believe this team actually worked for you. I'm seeing bastiodons, flyers and also fire types. This team only works if you're opposing the right (wrong) team imho.
Against flyers and bastiodons aren't a huge deal. There's pretty much a flyer in almost every one of these 26 matches. But fire types definitely hurt. Luckily, they're a little bit rarer at the moment.
when people think bastiodon or registeel can beat shiftry :) and you release the machine gun :) even altaria or skarmory can get overwhelmed with just a little bit of energy advantage and 1 shield.
Tried this team.... did not go well lol. Set 1 opponents: Battle 1: Shadow Gardevoir / Skarmory / Altaria Battle 2: Bastiodon / Blaziken / Skarmory Battle 3: Registeel / A-Marowak / Altaria Battle 4: A-Raichu / Tropius / Altaria Battle 5: Shadow Gardevoir / Lapras / Altaria Either you were very lucky or I was very unlucky xD
Not sure what rank you are atm, but I'd say you were very unlucky :D In the upper tiers, there's less creativity so it's usually pretty easy to predict what people have in their lineups.
With someone like me who does not have a frenzy plant meganium with the recent changes to bullet seed is sceptile a viable option with leaf blade and earthquake? Planning to use this team when all the leagues are available.
Sceptile is definitely a better with Bullet Seed than Fury Cutter in many situations. The main difference is that Sceptile isn't very bulky so you'll need to invest in shields for it even against Azu but Meganium doesn't need to do that, so it could be a little harder to run Sceptile over Meganium, but there's definitely potential there.
Snorlax is lick with body slam/outrage, victreebel is razor leaf with leaf blade/sludge bomb and venusaur is razor leaf with return/sludge bomb I started using this team as a goof cause I just happen to have them all pretty high on CP cause they’re all 100% IV but turned out razor leaf has some amazing dps I start with snorlax and get my charge up using lick then ether tank the first opponent or swap as soon as I have body slam charges Basically venusaur/snorlax tanks first hit generally then the opponent Pokémon don’t survive be onslaught of body slams or razor leafs generally. If you swap venusaur they usually will pop out their counter to grass which is usually something that doesn’t have stab or is just a charged move such as ice beam or ice punch to be block leading them to have zero counters for glass cannon victreebel to come in and chunk them with razor leaf
