I'm so glad I bought the IR-D instead of the IR-X. Love this pedal. The S-Switch is really mighty and basically gives you three different amp flavors. I prefer the medium gain (down position) with the gain cranked over the up position. Bonus info: if you bypass the IR section in the software, power amp simulation stays on! Which is implicitly clear, because the presence and deep toggles stay activated, too. But I wasn't sure about it and asked Friedman support.
I have my DS40 combo S switch set to the same position. I prefer it there too. This pedal really sounds great. Even though I have the amp, I love it so much I’m considering the pedal as a second channel.
Excellent video. Please, IRX and IRD sound different? IR-D is more vintage and IR-D is more modern? I don’t undestand The destination of everyone. Thanks.
Biggest Issue I had to get used to was my previous amp had one button to switch channels. Here pressing the channel you’re already on does nothing. Took a few gigs to adjust now I’m used to it
I have a Dirty Shirley mini head. It's a fantastic amp and the IR-D sounds awesome too. The kitten at the end looks like one of the litter mates we adopted. Such good kittens
Haven't finished the video yet so may of been mentioned, but it seems likely to me we will see an Imperial version of this swell for the fender/lower gain players.
I have a helix. I run it through two head rush, run 1082000 W monitors. Could a guy open up a blank preset run the signal to the Friedman preamp back to helix and out to the powered speakers using helix for the effects in the Friedman for the amp sound? Do you think that would work and sound great or would I just be wasting my time and annoying the neighbors lol. I really love your videos. I think you’re super nuclear.
I do like these cleans and thank you for demonstrating cleaner sounds than anyone else. It wouldn’t fit in one box but in dream land I’d want the ir-dx with ch1 ir-d and ch2 from the ir-x for the tighter, less hairy chonx.
Just got one today wow it is amazing ran it through my orange rocker 15 return and orange 2x12 v30's little confused about the wiring for adding in my pedals but I'm sure someone will post something about it soon, thanks for the great video gave me something to start with Michael
This Friedman IR-D sound really good. It has good clean and rock sounds. Nice comparison with your Marshall amp. I'm old... I don't want to carry heavy equipment to a gig anymore. So it's good if everything, including the amp, is on one pedalboard. At the moment I have the Amp1 Mercury on my pedalboard and it sounds great. But I need to setup other pedalboards for different projects and maybe you can show some solutions, that are not too expensive...
At last ... been waiting for one of the most honest reviewers I know (yeah, that's you, so stop being grumpy about people not trusting you) to review the ir-d. Can't try one in a shop near me, but been hovering between simplifuer x and this. I'm gonna buy this after what you said about cleans and dynamic response. Thank you. Oh yeah, great playing as always, and amazing to hear with real power amp and cab.
I like the D! ... Hey... Wait a minute... . . . Great demo as usual! I would definitely get this before the other one, because it's more my vibe. I gotta try it!
A Professional knows what is going to Happen before they do anything ..I've been playing and teaching Making a living for years..Humbly guess I've been becoming "More professional" every day 😅 Thanks Henning..that was a diamond 💎😅😂
I have a DS40 combo and the thing that surprised me the most when I first tried it was just how good it sounds clean. I love it so much and completely agree re clean with a strat. I’m so glad to hear someone else say this about it Henning. It is definitely a “prise it from my cold dead hands” amp for me. It is the sound and feel that I had spent ages looking for. Now available in a more affordable and small form factor. Excellent news for anyone not wanting to pay the full amp price (which is very expensive) or with limited space. I would try to pair it with Celestion creamback cab or IR but I believe quite a few people swapped the creamback for a greenback and liked it. I never have.
I really enjoy mine….i was in the process of selling every modeler I own….thinking there wasn’t this thing that could fill this role on my board….amazing….very happy
Despite it's flaws, it seems a pretty clever design for actual use on stage which I honestly have no idea about, because the only place I play is at home for my own entertainment and horror of my wife. ;-)
I was watching your video about being honest does not get you paid. I just want to say I respect your style and I understand your motivations but I feel compelled to share my 2 cents. I was a very happy technical person in the industrial automation industry untill life forced me to work with sales people to help answer technical answers to guarantee customers would buy the right products for their specific needs, I learned that you can always make your point, say the truth and help people make the correct investment and not get sales people gainst you by finding the correct way to frame my words, even if I had to change the original offer to save customers money. I think your motivations are correct, but I al also think if you look for a different way to frame your words that may help you to maintain those relationships with brands.
For manufacturers watching, include the following to yours: optional noise gates before and post preamp, on board power amp emulation, able to use as audio interface with iOS. I don’t get how they are still missing this.
Will the power amp emulation be part of the FX send? I want to use it with a SS power amp into real guitar cabs. SS power amp does not add the character this emulated one would add.
Thanks for putting that against the Marshal 20 watt and showing how close the pedal and the amp sound. Marshall SLP style sound is kind of "my" gold standard. I guess because I'm a child of the 70's and that was my music into the 90's. That friedman is shockingly good sounding/similar sounding. If you still have access to the Laney bl30 would you ever consider stacking that up against the marshall. In the states, Laney is a little cheaper but I would love to know how close to that particular marshall that it gets.
I ended up with both IR-X and IR-D. @33:10 How did you switch between IR-X and IR-D in the Friedman software? I had the IR-D first, so it's rhe only version of the editor I see in the doc on my mac. I gues the question is, "Is there a way to have the ability to load IR'S from your computer onto either IR-X or IR-D simultaneously?" I'm doing some testing and would like to be able to edit on both units.
Please, I am between IR-X and IR-D. What preamp have better clean (bluesy, vintage) for you. And what geat are more versatile? I need from pop ( Wilco) to Rock (AC/DC). Thanks
@noecuesta7888 The IR-D is the Dirty Shirley, and it's more of a classic design, but there are 3 different gain stages on both channels, so it is also very versatile. The IR-X is the Brown Eye, and there is a clean channel and a more modern high gain channel. It's also quite versatile. The examples you listed make me think the IR-X Dirty Shirley would probably work out great for you. They are both great and you will probably be fine with either one.
