I ended up looking into the ammo aspect of this just now, as I felt that ammo was being burned far too quickly in this mission. As I suspected, A3 currently has bad minigun configs - like in A2 before the STLB mod fixed them. You only have 1/3rd as much ammo as indicated. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future.
Love it how in the early stages of every mission you always spam the fuck out of your machinegun, shooting fucking everywhere, killing everyone like "RATATATATATATATATA FUCKING DIEEEE HAHAHAHA" But when you start to run out of ammo its more like "pew.... pewpew...... pew... ok that's enough for you"
Pwasma Dwagon There's a big difference between things being in a critical state ("If you don't start shooting the enemy up, everyone on the ground is going to die") and transitioning into sustainment ("They're doing OK, but I can still selectively help them by hitting key targets"). You fire more/faster during the critical phase, in order to trim the situation down to 'just' sustainment.
***** Your Schrodinger's Cat commentary is a cool place to see that in, from the beginning where you're using rockets just to guarantee quick kills, compared to at the end where you're saving them for when they're really needed. It's always cool to watch how the gameplay changes throughout missions, be it doing CAS, transport, or on the ground.
When all you have is five thousand tiny, high-speed hammers, all your problems start to look like nails. (Well, you have a couple dozen big explosive hammers too, but those get saved for the STUBBORN nails.)
Hah, I was next to the AT guys firing at the vics around 35 minutes (Bravo squad), cool to see the impacts as I was hiding behind the building. The air recon saved our butts more then once.
Would you mind making a video explaining some of the settings and configs you use for TrackIR with Arma 3? Like what ratio you set, smooth, 1:1 etc, how you have your lean and head roll setup. I noticed you lean out of your heli to see back, I want to know how to achieve that. Im also curious about how many screens you use. 3 monitor setup or 1 big monitor. What FOV settings do you use. Your vids are great, especially how much you go into detail on your guides. I have a trackIR with 3 24" monitors, and just cant seem to find a good video detailing how to get trackIR setup well in Arma 3. I just have the basics on it.
RTEK You don't really want a 1:1 since you wouldn't be able to look over your shoulder without the camera losing track. The default Smooth setting is pretty good but its generally a good idea to play around with it till you are comfortable. To lean out the window of a chopper you need to just move your head in the direction, don't tilt and just twist it towards where you wan't to look.
What are your thoughts on the A3 AH-9 Pawnee vs the old A2 AH-6 Littlebird Dslyecxi and other Arma pilots? Personally I find it a lot harder to be accurate with the pawnee, mostly because it's higher topspeed means that I often find myself accidentally flying too fast so that pedals are no longer responsive enough for aiming. I thought at fist I'd get used to this quickly, but somehow I have yet to really adapt to it. I guess partly because keyboard controll doesn't give the option to only partly raise or lower collective, giving me more controll over my speeds. Instead its neutral, full up, or fully lowered only.
Braindead I prefer the way the M/AH-6 mod flys, where it's more of a blend between the A2 and A3 speeds. The Pawnee has poor minigun spread, no selectable ROF, and can be obnoxious to manage the speed of. Once the mod version of the M/AH-6 ( forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?192279-MELB-Mission-Enhanced-Little-Bird ) is in final release/integrated into RHS, it's hard to see a reason to continue using the Pawnee.
***** Again dude, the HMDs MOD has everything you just said, 2 RoF's, ripple setting for the rockets, proper dispersion for the m134, even flares. Sorry for spamming, but i think you should at least give it a try. Cheers.
Kimi - I really dislike having a HUD in a Littlebird. I'm aware of your mod, but as I have no intention of using a LB with a HUD, there's little relevance to me. Sorry. :(
Should I buy Arma 2 Complete Edition (all DLCs) for 5 bucks on Steam summer sale? It ran at low settings on my pc at 20-25 fps (Demo), but I imagine that online drops your fps like hell. I really want it but I fear that it wont offer me a good experience online because of FPS, is single player enough?
What are your thoughts on the Blastcore and DragonFyre? I only ask this because I use it and it's amazing. Also I would love to see the little bird with selectable fire rates like in Arma 2. Lastly just in case you read this. Is anyone making the American Airborne Beret and the 16th MP Bde. patch? Thanks. Love watching your videos.
So, just how many people survived on that Alpha boat? 'Cause it didn't seem like very many. Any chance of getting the story behind what happened to them? Driver get killed? Someone d/c? Some accidental "I borked it."?
xboxdonitsi yeah the forest screenshot had so much detail and the trees looked Cry engine quality haha. But they did say they're adding DX12 and focusing on performance for the expansion.
Hey, dslcx, what are your thoughts on the altis map? Do you like it? Are there maps from A2 that you prefer more than Altis terrain? Or is it, like "every map is special in it's own unique way"?
Sean Hornibrook From what I saw, he dropped in altitude hella when he did the rolls. IO guess he was trying to get down quickly without having to aim down then pull up?
I love what you done with the Radio for headphones, maybe.. dont know if its just for headphones.. anyways, But how you can hear some from the left, and other from the right, not sure if you can hear it that one too, but its making it a lot easier to hear things and i appreciate it.
***** Thanks.. I would love to see those someday in a future CAS mission if possible. I have really enjoyed watching your missions now for over a year. I have never played a single game. However, watching each mission is a lot of fun for me. Thank you for bringing these missions to us.
Arma 3 and Arma 2 Complete edition are in summer sale, but my computer aint too good. One time I downloaded arma 2 on pirate bay and it ran at 720p 20-25 fps with medium/low settings and 85% 3D resolution I think. Should I buy one of them now or its just not worth to run it at these crappy settings?
Chris Murphy I have a notebook, I can't upgrade it. I also live in Brazil and things have high taxes, a simple I5 8gbs of ram 1TB HDD with a GTX 760 costs around 900-1000 $
Nice video Dslyecxi. What is up with the AI though? It seems really slow and not reacting very well to what is going on around it. I mean, you were flying right over what looked like 2x T-90 tanks and they barely shot a single bullet your way. It really looks like the AI does not know what to do against aircraft if it does not have any AA launchers. There were a fair number of occasions where the AI just looked clueless.
TheMirkxD The tanks almost certainly didn't consider the AH-9 to be a threat. Other things like BTRs were firing at me whenever I got close enough. Also, don't underestimate how hard it is to actually locate and track aircraft from a vehicle like that.
***** I maybe just not recognize the sounds very well since the update. Though, comparing the amount of fire you usually take in say some of your arma 2 games when flying this looked fairly manageable. Regarding the two tank at the end, the hmg gunners did have an awful lot of time tracking you and "realize" that you were reporting their every move.
WhiteBerryBold I like it, but I'm a bit biased for obvious reasons (e.g. filming the bulk of the Tanoa reveal trailer myself). I think it'll be really cool when it's finished - even in an early state it's already very nice.
