Go behind the scenes during #Starliner’s first flight that successfully put the Pad Abort system to the test. Watch the entire flight in real time with our photographer at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, as Starliner’s launch abort engines ignite, propelling the vehicle roughly a mile up (approx. 1.6 km) and a mile away from the test stand in just about 90 seconds.

It works quite well inside the atmosphere it is now time to get it up a few 100 miles and run the escape from outer space or low earth orbit.

Turned out to be okay. Procedural error that they don't think could be missed for a crewed flight, and the procedure was correctly followed for the OFT vehicle so there's no impact to future missions. Also it tested a parachute out failure with the additional weight of the service module, and it worked great so they got a bit more verification.

@@AmbientMorality The fact the service module crashed so close to the capsule and released toxic propelants into the atmosphere is less than safe. NASA isn't happy.

it always looks bad when a channel or company blocks comments. Their safety videos are udder trash. Boeing own Chief pilot told them to delete MCAS from the manual. After he personally experienced the MCAS fighting him in flight (sim?)

Make sure you let the pilots know about software that will pitch the spacecraft in a nose down attitude no matter what the pilot does . 👍🏻

You do know that in a real abort, the whole thing would fly out over the ocean from SLC-41, right? The SM would crash, burst apart, and then sink and be gone before the capsule landed. Also, they are not 'right next' to each other, but are hundreds of feet apart. The image compression from using a highly zoomed in lens is making look like they are closer than they really are.

33% failure rate on the main parachutes
@Nowhereman10
@Nowhereman10 5 лет назад
Due to a missing pin as a result of human error at the vendor. Also, the parachutes have been tested many dozens of times prior to this so at worst it would be more like 4-5%. Or did you think they'd never tested the chutes before this?
