I used to work on those cars back in the mid 80s, by putting that Duramax 440 in you did what British Leyland couldn’t do…. ,you actually made the car reliable ,Lol ,Great video Chris.
He done did it agin!😂🤣 seats aint even fastened down.. 🤣😂 I believe this is my favorite project too! Chris, Your videos are like granny's cooking. It takes a little time for it to finish, but I promise you its worth the wait. It is the experience of following your journey that makes Keyfarm a great place to spend my time. Your positive energy is strong Sir! Take as long as you need to do what you do. The followers are coming. Keep doing what you are doing brother, It's obviously working. Another great video Chris, Thanks for sharing! Skinny
This one really does work well, and it fits under the hood, I'm pretty proud of this one and it's my favorite to drive ( I also have a truck, tractor, and golf cart set up similar). Thanks for watching
I would love to see you do a cross country with this and document it like the old days. So cool! You need old timey goggles, hat and leather trench. Do it!
I wonder if any top end speed would be gained using a torque converter before the gearbox? Or perhaps source out a two speed rear end. It seems to have the torque to be able to handle some steeper gears. Totally awesome project.
Great job buddy! I saw a tractor when I was a kid that had I think a 5 hp.BRIGGS mounted on it.That image had escaped my memory until I saw some of your videos.I enjoy every minute of it!.
Chris from Key farm we have been concerned about your where abouts. The car is awesome looks like my Austin-Healey sprite(same factory) best of luck. Central California watching
Great. The big block singles are a good value for such Rat Rods. When you upgrade, put a used ($500) big twin in it of 900-1000cc, for 35-45 hp. 70 mph Freeway driver, 40 mpg?
I’m seriously jealous 😢I been looking for a small cheap car like that to go cart I already have a small engine but I couldn’t afford any of the cars I found so far and now I’m not working so my project is on perm hiatus I love that car soo much you did awsome keep up the good work
Wow what an awesome video I want one I really do That just looks like it's so much fun and to think that in a honesty it's a lawn mower engine that's making it go. That is just way too cool Chris Thank you so much.
OUTSTANDING work! Probably one of the best frames to use, you get a convertible and ur not ruining a car someone wants to spend money fixing 😂😂😂 also a lot more reliable!
just found this video and watching you gun it from 1st gear to 4th actually made me laugh lol too funny with the way it sounds in that mg. good stuff man i just subscribed keep em coming.
hey Chris, it would be awesome to have a electric start engine or even a motorcycle engine. maybe get it street legal with side pipes on the side. it's hard to find manual trans vehicles. THIS IS SOOOO FREAKING AWESOME!!!!
How are you engaging the transmission since there is no clutch? This video was abundantly clear you just shoved it in gear, and when you gave it gas it took off. Is there a centrifugal clutch built into the back of the engine or how are you doing this? I'm planning to do something like this with a Bronco or F150 4x4 to tow my gin-pole crane trailer around my property and hatched the idea tonight. Been watching several of your videos like this one and of the Mazda but still stumped! Thanks! I subscribed.
Yes, there is a centrifugal clutch on the engine. Some of the other videos show it , you can see it best on the tractor videos. Thanks for watching. Of all of these contraptions, the cars performance is the best.
Great Idea and Engenering personaly,I would like a two cylinder Kohler in it. Yea I know to much money but it would sound and pull like night and day from the Duramax one lunger
I center up the eye of the clutch and a 1" steel coupler. That is how you mate the new shaft to the old. I'll be making a video on just that subject soon.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm the more of these budget engine swap videos I watch the more convinced I am it's a brilliant idea. There are a ton of derelict tractors and vehicles in my area that look to be in solid shape as far as the frame and body are concerned and could probably be put back into service without breaking the bank.
I would like to see a video of how you hook the motor up to the transmission of the car. I have a good idea of what you’re doing because I hooked up a single cylinder Skidoo engine to run my Volkswagen bug Dune Buggy. But I would like to see how you did it. Thank you
The eye of the clutch disc is welded to the 1" coupler , then the coupler attaches to a 1" shaft. This one has a 14 tooth clutch and I think a 34 tooth sprocket on the 1" shaft
There are plenty of Smarts with broken engine (here in Canada with the 3 cyl diesel) which can be obtained for cheap. Wonder if I could replace the Manumatic ( kind of hydrolic solenoid who activate the clutch ) by a clutch pedal , so I could use the Smart gearbox driven by a GX clone of 18 hp on top of it ...any Smarts expert here?
lol thats what i was talking about man lol . would have loved to see a predetor 670cc twin in it but i know they cost money and you already had that one lol . but man you ever get one drop it in there even if its just for one video . and keep them tall tires man they make ya go faster . smaller tires will just slow you down .
Can you post a video on installing the engine in the car I have a MG midget and I plan on doing the same thing to it and I would greatly appreciate. The hopeful video
I never made a video particularly on the MG because it proved to not be very popular, but this video of my truck shows the process and it's about 90% the same. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yYIGmXyMYIc.html
It goes in gear just fine, if you get the eye of the clutch and a 1" steel coupler, about any machine shop can make the adapter. I'll have more details on this in the next video.
What are the chain and sprocket set up with the clutch? I love this, I want to do the same in a mini cooper if you could help that would be awesome, I will send some cash in Zelle for a set up to get me going it has a manual transmission and is a 2005 s series mini cooper.
Only thing I would do differently is have a full exhaust out the back with a muffler (maybe like a glass pack or something just to lower the harshness of the exhaust and give it more power)
In a short amount of time I'm going to make that video about the mg but it's the exact same process I used for the truck so if you watch the video where I show how to put the engine in the truck I'll discuss it
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm hell yeah, what a deal you got to. PS. Thanks for having time to reply. You keep making these type of vehicles you won't have time to look through all the comments with all the new subscribers LOL .
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm Drop by the auto parts store and tell them your is sounding strange LOL. Maybe even put an alternator on it to charge the battery. I'd like to see more people using lawn mower engines in cars as daily grocery getters. I mean like cost of gas tells it all. And then for somebody that needs an engine rebuilt, do you really need to do 60 in 3 seconds? You pretty well got it all explained. I noticed in one video you had a little problem with oil in the clutch. have you considered replacing the clutch with a spring loaded belt tensioner hooked up to the clutch peddle. maybe a way to lock it released for starting by rope start. Just a thought. Keep u8p the good work and ill be watching for the town trip.
I'm going to be polite but why do these guys RUIN an MGB. I've owned 4 & put well over 135,000 miles on all of them with NO major problems. They never left me stranded anywhere.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm thanks yah I have a 78 triumph spitfire that runs great and is all original and I bought a parts car and I kinda want to do this with the parts car.
I did not mind cutting a hole in the hood of the truck, my goodness I even made the hood scoop out of a wheelbarrow ,but the coolest thing about this MG is that long cool hood and I don't want to mess that up.
