My Dine', keep climbing. We will always have one hand tied behind our backs in our own land, and now have to pay to be born, just to have to pay to die as well. Rise above your situation, and let your ancestors guide you.

I was at BYU 1971 - 1975. I think the record came out during that period and the Lamanite Generation were performing it. The performance at that time was, in my opinion, much better - a slower tempo, and with a sound more authentic to an Indian singing it. Even so, I'm glad to see that the song gained so great a distribution as the commentators here attest to. I loved the Lamanite Generation. Blessings to all...

This song "Go My Son" is written by Arlene Nofchissey Williams , Navajo, & Carnes Burson, Ute. Two indian students at BYU (Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah) The quote ("Education is a ladder. To help us reach happiness, go and climb that ladder.") is originally stated by Chief Manuelito. I remember hearing it when I was little, growing up in Utah. I wonder what year it was written in. Anyone know?

My two friends, Ima and Kohu and I sang this song every day when we were traveling with the Lamanite Generation back in the 70's. I still love it, and still have opportunities to sing it at special events. Carnes and Arlene(composers) have inspired many thousands of people all over the world with this song.

TenaKourua......Sister Harata Pere from New Zealand - (who later became my wife) sang this song along with other Polynesian and Native American Elders and Sisters in our mission - The South West Indian Mission during the years of 1968 - 1970's. Wonderful happy memories for both of us serving in the S.W.I.M. Arohanui oe - Royce and Harata Baucke.

4th grade, Charlotte Park Elementary School, Nashville Tennessee, This song brings back lots of memories, we sang it in a school show, and I remember my mom used to work all the time so she never made it to any of my school activities but she was able to make it to this one, but regardless for some strange reason she decided to stay in the car at the parking lot through out the whole thing while my oldest sister came in and watched me perform with my class...I will never understand why my mom didn't come in, she is not some mean bitter old lady and she loves and cares for me very much. I guess that's just one of the mysteries of my life lol great song though and it carries a great message that people seem to be forgetting today in 2015.

From my understanding of observation growing up, our parents come from a totally different era and up bringing from today. I'm sure they still this have difficulty dealing with certain things. Separation of race should never have been an issue, but it's reality. I'm my Eyes we are all equal, excepting the colors of skin. It's sad to know the tragity and trauma that our ancestors endored in order to keep generations going. I thank my ancestors for doing what they did long ago, for us to live today. I'm proud to be Native American, apart of the earth that we call our mother. May the Great Creator bring great blessing upon you and your loved ones. Always a friend known as }}- Silent~Native ->☮️

Great rendition! My father assisted in the editing and completion of this song in my front room when I was three years old. That was in 1969 with Arlene Williams, Jan Howard, John Rainer, and my father Thomas Aust among others. The location of its completion is 256 North 500 West (State Street) in Provo, Utah. The mirrored homes were the original residence of President John Taylor, the third president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

+mario lester 1.) It was back in the 70's, at a time when people were more interested in peace and free love and were a _whole lot less uptight_ about things than they are now, especially the kind of absurd "outrage by proxy" that we see a lot of people expressing these days for and on behalf of those whom they feel are being or should feel insulted (I'm part Native American, I can say this, and I'm not insulted by this very old album cover or by the fellow Natives who were involved in its production and it annoys me that people suggest that maybe I should be, not that you've done this per se). 2.) This song was actually part of a stage production where Native performers sang and danced traditional and contemporary pieces by fellow Native producers, dressed in traditional garb. It's actually a very beautiful production and I've looked and waited for years for it to come back to my community (last time I remember seeing a troupe was back in the late 80s :( )
