This video is a Bias Draping Primer. Do you love those 1930s gowns and wish you knew how to make them? Well, this video will get you started on your journey. I give you a quick background on Madeleine Vionnet the fashion desger that led the way for bias draping. (Please excuse my bad French pronunciations.) I also show you the very basics on some easy bias draping. This is video #2 of 3. Be sure watch the next video, Go Speed Draper, Go!, where I put these techniques into practical application. Join me for the other videos in this playlist and be sure to claim your badge, info below!

Ribbon Game
Ribbon collecting is a time-honored bonding tradition at Costume College:
attendees are able to decorate their name badges with unique ribbons,
collected by attending certain events or classes. CoCoVid is joining in on
this spirited adventure with our very own virtual badge collection game!
How do I get started?
You’ll need to either download the FREE Badgewallet app via Android or
Apple, or you can visit Badgecraft Online through any desktop browser to
set up your virtual badge wallet.
How do I claim my badges?
Each participating video, workshop, lecture, live stream or event during
CoCoVid weekend will include a text code and/or a QR code to claim the
corresponding badge, and all badges have different conditions for
collection: You may need to watch a video until the end to collect the QR
Code/Claim Code, or you may need to participate in one of the many
activities happening on Instagram or in the Discord Server. Each activity or
video will contain instructions on how their corresponding badge can be
collected.
Badgecraft Desktop only supports text codes, while either the text or QR
code may be scanned with a smartphone in the app. The badge will
automatically appear in your wallet.

Oh, Love Madeleine Vionnet's work! I made her 1929-30s evening dress that is in patterns of fashion 2 (Janet Arnold, p.78, 34A). It's an awesome dress to wear

I love the square dress you made! That pattern and color are just gorgeous!! I’m not much of a dress wearer but I would have worn the heck out of that in high school.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turn the draped fabric into a flat pattern.

Thank you for doing these videos! Great tips and insight while you do the process. I am also a big vionnet fan. I did play around with some mockups of the dresses in Janet Arnold’s POF 2.. just to learn some of her concepts and how they work in practice. Looking forward to your dress in the next video :)

This was very interesting. I like how you included the history behind it. Also as a newbie I knew bias and bias draping existed, but it never occurred to me that things like which grain you were balancing against would be a factor. Very educational, thank you!
