I love how the critics HATED this movie. And I quote, "It looked like an explosion at the Crayola factory." That was the point! The original was super bright and we love it that way!
@@gloverytalkington9423 Sadly critics hated it as only a movie compared to a lot of other great ones, but if they tried rating this movie taking in consideration the amount of movies that came from a Cartoon/anime with the ideas of recreating the same but in real life this movie would definitely be rated as one of the best and only successes that came out of that collection
only thing i didnt like about the movie is i know the racing is fake and all cgi and all but it lacked physics. a driver pulling g forces in every direction in the car and are completely motionless/unaffected giving to much of an effect that they are indeed sitting still in a chair and not whipping corners in a car.
I'm not a fan of the Mach 4 & 6 in terms of the design, but I do love how they designed the Mach 5 for the film. Though updated, it still resembles the 67 variant unlike the one from 93
My life changed forever with this show. I watched it every week day after school on kbhk 44 . I am a life long gearhead to this day from it. My dad his buddy raced sports cars. Grew up racing motorcycles. Going fast , racing fuel, the the travel , all of it And like the racers, we did as a family.
Still one of my all time favorite movies ever. Top to bottom and start to end it's just an amazing and fun movie. So much was done to honor the source material while making it so much better. I can best say that as a kid this is what you felt like you were watching in the cartoon. My brother still holds a grudge against Iron Man for overshadowing this movie.
It's a representation of the movie as a whole: Corny, but stylish and you can tell how much effort was thrown in. And frankly it's meant to be enjoyed.

I'd watch this over Dragon Ball evolution. Why? Because it's alot more faithful to it's property and it took all the right notes of how to adapt an anime into live action on the big screen. Something of which detective Pikachu (even though that's more of a video game adaptation) would do years later. With the irony of this being that both films were distributed by Warner Bros. It's weird whenever the studio is given a Japanese property they know how to do it more correctly unlike other studios where they think they know the anime but they really don't like a certain studio who one year prior released a certain adaptation of an anime that I already mentioned and am not mentioning again. Or a certain director who two years later released a film based on a certain Western anime that when the film was released it got the negative reviews (aside from the score and one awesome set piece of the northern water tribe because well technically that is one idea of what it would look like in live action) it deserves. And if I were given the choice to watch either of those movies, I'd watch the Netflix adaptation of death note with the reason being a guilty pleasure movie for me.
Love the anime and I enjoyed the movie don't know what most of the fans are on about CGI was good come on the race scenes were amazing for me LONG time fan. Really loved this song and it had RAIN!! who doesn't love some RAIN candy eye for me.
the car had to be upgraded to be legal for the grand pri racing regulations because the parts it had before were not up to regulation for the race. So he did not cheat the movie just in one of its few failures failed to make that factor more of a focal point in the scene it was in.

I can see why hotwheels did a speed racer line with this, this may also have been a test for a rumor of another live action movie cause some of those tracks are almost identical to ones in some old hotwheel movies, for example the 4 path hex portion seems very similar to a track in world race
