Goa Gil is one of the most influential living legends of psychedelic trance. In this interview we attempt to cover his life from his early steps in the music scene in San Francisco, to his deep spiritual journey in India with the Naga Babas of the Juna Akhara, to the beaches of Goa and the first steps into what would be know as Goa Trance and later on Psychedelic Trance. Discover here his profound vision on what life is and how he uses music as a tool to spread his message of Redefining the Ancient Ritual for the 21st Century.

First time In had the pleasure to listen and dance to the sounds of Goa Gil was @ Nation of Gondvana Festival 1996 Nest Berlin. After him no other DJ was able top keep me dancing like he did. Just Imagine. You feel Happy but you feel you need a rest. You want to leave the dancing ground and this guy start up playing another song and you feel "No, I cannot leave" Gil catched me for hours this way. Even DJs like Tsuyoshi Suzuki, Marc Allen or Cosmix didn't had this impact on me. Gil is still a Legend. Also here in Germany. He's blessed.

Linda entrevista, deixa bem claro o caminho que Goa Gil percorreu e suas influências diretas. Eu me identifiquei na fase da adolescência pois também tive contato muito jovem com a música e isso influenciou diretamente minha vida, com 13 anos ajudava meu irmão mais velho na produção de eventos que tinha música, cenário, performances, show de luzes, projeções, etc. Isso tudo me trouxe até os festivais, e hoje como produtor, me reencontrei com aquela alegria de estar entre arte e música que conheci quando era mais novo...

Thank you so much for this historical interview, Megalopsy! Babaji has had such unique life - the rich tapestry of his inner life always coloured his music. At his birthday party in California, I have seen first hand the infinite supply of energy that he can tap into at will. It's truly daunting to watch. I saw shades of that in your own set at Liquid Sky 'Offseason Blast' when you played a beautiful set at 3:00 am for about 4 hours 7-8 years ago in Ashvem beach in Goa. Grateful for these priceless experiences.

Mr Goa Gil, i have a question. Do you keep in contact with anyone you knew from the 60s? Any friends? Not just famous people, just anyone in general? Any long standing relations? I mean more specifically people who you knew in San Fran that never left and stayed and you continued to stay in touch with. Of course outside your blood family

i hope the many people out there realise that music isnt a fashion and dont just follow people and kinda worship their formula but respect their own beliefs, ideas and create their own formula within life and music. a great life lived is lived together and not looking towards another man. aum! be yourselves people dont follow anything but what is inside. sad to see everybody at these kind of parties now looking the same and acting the same and even listening to the same music...all night! be yourself and create something new. dont follow!

rip goa gil an inspiration to my younger self when i visited goa the first couple of times. the music unfortunately became a fashion for people to follow.. but that isnt gils fault or intention he just used the new followers fashion to create a life for himself and hopefully point them in a better direction. a wise man!

Yes but he dj’d 100’s legendary psychedelic parties before 99% of anyone even knew what was happening. He mixed with multiple dat cassette walkmans sometimes. Comparing him to some trained trance dj with perfect seamless mixes is comparing apples and oranges.
