I do carry a CR123 light every day, but you are right, the AA lights have come a long way. Standardizing in your pack, gives you alot of flexibility when you find yourself using one device more than another, and are able to share batteries.

Good review! AA flashlights are so good these days that I don't bother much with my CR123 lights nearly as often as I used to. Like you said, it's nice to be able to only have to carry one size of spare batteries.

Thanks, I do have a bunch of the enloop batteries, and have used them for a few years in high drain flash photography equipment, and have to agree with you that they cycle very well, and last a darn long time.

They are pretty durable. The Goal Zero Promo vids have the guys throwing them onto the ground. While i wouldn't do that with my equipment, i'm sure they are fairly durable.

Right now my niece is in the Peace Corps, in Africa, in a village that is without electricy. I think I am going to be looking into one of these.

If you're looking for a dependable rechargable battery I recommend the Sanyo Eneloop. 1500 charges before it starts to lag. With a solar charger it is the perfect post-disaster combo for light power needs.

standardizing to DOUBLE AA is a wise choice. Not alot of people will understand this.

I got the smaller one, I haven't tested it to much yet, but it looks good so far. You can also get a AAA adapter for the battery charger, so you can use the same charger for AAA battery's. The 12v outlet was a nice think, but it looks like my panel is to small for it

I was thinking about buying one of those to charge up rechargeable batteries for my handheld ham radio.Right now I keep some rechargeable usb AA batteries that just hook up to my sherpa 120.

@acidlittle No, that sounds like bull to me, I have a pretty demanding cell phone, and i can charge it 1.5 time from the battery pack that this came with. It takes about 3-4 hours to charge the battery pack. so a week sounds pretty crazy to me. Make sure it was a nomad 7 panel, and not the smaller one.

My works too. Used Inplix handbooks and build it with no problems.

This will provide some charge to a tablet. I don't think it would be of much help on a laptop. They do sell larger units specifically designed for laptops though.

Would you recommend this device for charging camera batteries, cell phones when you're off the grid in remote international travel destinations?

I must say that higher capacity batterie4s last fewer cicles .. it has to do with the density of the NiMh inside the cell .. but the ioptimum for me is arrownd 2300mAh ..

yes I like the bit where you can do it by a usb or a 12 v car battery as I have a 10.2 in tv that runs off a 12 v battery but my tv will not run off a usb . but I am getting a 20 W one

I have a best buy gift card, and have been looking at this, does it take long to charge up an item? I read that it took somebody a week to fully charge their cell phone...

My question is; do you need those batteries connected to the solar charger or does it just convert solar rays into electrical energy and in turn charge mobile for example? However, in your instance it seems you have two different methods of charging, one being ur solar and two your charged batteries?!

Didn't you get an adapter with it for AAA...? I'm pretty sure I read reviews on Amazon where they got an adapter.

Do you think it could charge any Game Consoles such as the PS Vita?

I actually got this nomad 7. And it wouldn't charge anything I had. Phone, battery pack, and ipod. left them out there for 6hours and none gained even a % of juice. I had to return it. Might give the 15 a try though....
