Delta has no need of 77W sized aircraft. Honestly considering how Boeing has treated them recently I doubt they will ever purchase Boeing aircraft again without getting a very good deal

Airliner World & More You ain't wrong there Delta needs 777 300s to replace 747s and follow the other 2 carriers to compete although thrre was gossip about then getting 787 9s

Raj Nirvan A350 and A330neo takes care of that role. Delta is going to squeeze every last dime out of the 77L and 772, thus no need for a 77W

Why were the landing gear doors still open on the first approach?

irishcurse65 That's the alternate gear extension. All Boeing operated low approaches utilize the altn gear because it's the safest time to test it. Testing it at altitude may result in a problem which would become much bigger the further they are from a suitable airport. But they don't want to test it on landing. So if they're going to test it, a near landing is the best time to do so.

Backup gear extension test. In this mode, no HYD pressure is supplied to the gear, the backup system unlocks the gear doors and gear, everything fall down under gravity.
