I first backpacked the Goat Rocks in 1972. Old Snowy Mountain is the highest point of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington. And, in clear weather, spectacular views in all directions.

Wow, that is quite while back, would be interesting to see if it looked much different back then. I agree, it really is a great spot.

Thanks for the showcase! There was one particular basin that looked exactly like the one in this video and it was the highlight of my Section H PCT hike (NB) that I did back in 2015. It was amazing to just take in all that lush greenery along the trailside and seeing the trail carved into the land as we made our way across it.

We found opted to hike rhe length pf the knife's edge, and back, on the PCT instead of the side trip up Old Snowy.

I rode my Dual Sport in GP last year. HWY 12 was closed I came in through Ashford. Packwood looked like Hell.He'll. Does anyone know if the views have been torched?

Would anybody be able to tell me about the conditions of NF-21 aka Johnson Creek RD and NF-2150 aka Chamber Lake RD (the access road leading to the trailhead)? I'm not finding anything definitive on those road conditions, specifically as to whether a sedan would make it up or if this is more a job for the higher clearance trucks/SUVs. Thank you!

Hey there. A sedan should do just fine. When I went last summer, there were no big washouts or dips that you would need high clearance for. They are decent gravel roads, but they are washboarded for long stretches, so expect a bumpy ride though.

How far do you think it is from the trailhead to goat lake? Going up 2nd week in Aug. Was thinking of doing this trip sort of. Maybe cap night 1 at goat lake, then up to old snowy. Is lives peak accessible from old snowy?

It would be 5.5 miles going straight to goat lake. Sorry I don't know about Lives peak, have not tried that one.
