I just love it on how everybody likes to poke fun of TheLazyEyebrow because of his obsession on car detailing and scaling… it nice to see other transformer toy content creators acknowledge each other
@@rolvirata9003 Not only that but the plastic and paint quality will most likely be way worse than the original line, and we’re definitely not gonna get a more premium Takara line, either
As a car guy and a Transformers fan, I really appreciate the Alternators/Binaltech toyline. Alternators Smokescreen was what started me on collecting Transformers figures.
Damn son what a perfect way to use the Top Gear theme plus I love that Mirage. Totally changes the way we see transformers which this line came before the movies. Glad I got him and I’m looking forward to the ROTB one.
The Alternators were pretty damn cool back then. Super realistic for their time. These were before any MP series, right? So, I guess these were technically the MP transformers of that time. I really wanted the dark purple RX-8 that was Shockwave... Never got it, though
I was that weird kid that adored scale model cars. Loved them and TFs (I have all but like 4 Alternators) Also, fun fact, the Ford GT (as far as Super Cars go) is comparatively reliable when lined up against Lambos and Ferrari’s of the time!
Alterrnators finally getting some love. Though a fickle piece Mirage/Hot Rod had probably the best rendered/detailed alt mode out of the entire line. Love that these were detailed, sported rubber wheels/chrome and were $20 here in Canada throughout its run. Optimus Prime though was a sad end to another wise great mainline series. Still have a shelf dedicated to the majority of them.
Alternators were a big part of what made me become and adult Transformers collector. Thanks for this video. I always love when Alternators gets some attention. I have 9 of them. 10 if you count 2 Skids I got a dupe in a lot of 4 where I wanted the other 3. I bought the rest at stores like K-Mart and Toys R Us. I never came across a few of the later releases at storefront or at a price I was willing to pay. Maybe it's time to revisit the market. I need a Mirage Ford GT, Prime Chevy truck, Whatever Honda Windcharger was, Prowl Acura, Rumble Honda Civic, and Ravage Jaguar, to have 1 of each mold. I only have the US Alt versions. (Technically the first release Smokescreen is a different vehicle from the Ricochet I have, but to my knowledge, it's the same toy as the rest of the Subarus except for some cosmetic molding differences). I don't have any Binaltech from J-pan. I'm mostly a US release collector. (If someone wanted to give me some Binaltech toys I wouldn't complain. I just can't really afford the cost of most imports. I have a few things I've picked up on super sales and clearances.)
I always see Alternators and Binaltech as their own Masterpiece line before Masterpiece even became a regular thing than what it was like 20-21 years ago. They are just so full of detail and the cars looked really good and realistic.
Ah Alternators, my favorite transformers line, I got two of them. I got binaltech asterisk alert (Japanese exclusive prowl turns into Saitama district police WRX) and alternators swiper
Depends on the figure. Smokescreen was a great start and I think it was perfected with Jazz/Shockwave, but most of the other molds I don't think aged well,. Hound/Swindle would be my other standout. That said I would love to see if they could revisit this idea with modern engineering.
I picked up5 randomly recently: Jazz(8/10 not enough shoulderr articulation) Tracks(5/10 only good in vehicle mode) Grimlock(7/10 arms are loose wierd transformation) Optimus(7/10 Weird bot mode proportions and vehicle tabbing) and the best of the lot Overdrive(10/10 modern articulation+fingers and extra movement on feet, great transformation, full interior, sunroof, and I like the gun partsforming the most out of any of them And I'm so happy I did! Cant wait for mirage/hotrod, swindle/hound, sunstreaker/deadend/sideswipe and maybe skids or the one who started it all, smokescreen!
The Dodge Viper Sideswipe was always my favourite. Even before I “displayed” my toys intentionally it was one of the first ones I always had out. I got it when I was like 13 or 14 I wanna say, basically 20 years now it’s been in my shelf on display. Mainly in car mode
So I have recently made it a goal of mine to get at least 1 figure from every major series, which primarily composed of every TV series, but after this video, Alternators has been added to the list of series/figure lines to get
I have Hound, Ravage and Smokescreen, all fantastic; especially Hound and Ravage. I didn't even know they made a Mirage one, he looks dope. I'm not a collector but that line and maybe the masterpiece line are the only ones that make me want to get into collecting.
I have Swindle, Arcee and Soundwave, as well as Alternity megatron (black) and Optimus, they are FANTASTIC, Alternity Optimus especially, but now I want mirage ty
Alternators Mirage is cool and If only RotB Mirage was something similar cuz every time, EVERY TIME I see RotB Mirage's Porsche mode I think something along the lines of, "Why can't it be Jazz", then when I see his bot mode I'm like, "Its Mirage". Mirage would've been really cool as a Ford GT in RotB. Also I like it when TF reviewers acknowledge/talk about & etc each other its kinda funny, I like TheLazyEyebrow's vids btw Also, How the Heck is Ruby so cute!? I just wanna pet her!
Love the Top Gear intro. Love the line, although I went for the Binaltech versions from Takara, which often featured die-cast metal parts and a better paint job. I didn’t follow the Alternators line too closely but understand that it was more prolific, with many recolors of additional characters not featured in Binaltech. I got 3 Alternators: Ravage (Jaguar), Rumble (Civic) and Hot Rod (Ford GT)
I still have an Alternators Rollbar that was a gift from my dad, mint in box from Christmas 2006. When I was a kid that style, I figure wasn’t my cup of tea, and it looked really cool on the box anyway. The fact that the license plate is from my home state of Colorado certainly add to his appeal for me.
I also have 1 of this Mirage & Hot Rod Ford GT. I agree with you that the Robot Mode doesn't good enough. Therefore I just display both of them in Vehicle Mode 🙂
I can't believe these aren't more sought after/collected today... I've got all of them, even the legendary swerve, snagged by accident, after work at a TRU.
most people are all about robot mode, i love cars so i love accurate alt modes, officially licensed ss figures, so naturally i’ve really wanted to get into these!
I was lucky enough to get ahold of a new in box Alternators Shockwave for only £16. I've only transformed it 3 times in 2 years and dust it more regularly then my other transformers. It's one of my prized possessions and probably my favourite transformer toy/figure I own. I also have Alternators Wheeljack too and I'm hoping I can get this Mirage at some point too.
I have the Sunstreaker from this line that turns into a Dodge Viper and he is glorious. His robot mode leaves a little to be desired but his car mode is sublime. I used to be into model cars. As a kid I got 3 that you had to assemble, they did not come in one piece. They were pretty fun to put together and looked great. Unfortunately since I was a kid I lost interest quickly and ended up selling them and now I only want a toy car if it turns into a robot. I'm glad it was a certified dog. I don't know if I'd be able to trust this review if the dog wasn't certified. Thanks for telling us about the Hasbro Pulse sale! Might be able to pick up some figures I missed.
i will always stan transformers designed with realistic car interiors. it’s always been my biggest complaint about how transformers fundamentally work that they hardly ever have room for a person inside, they’re always just scrunched up robots inside the vehicle modes. this and human alliance are some of my favourites for that, at least conceptually. would love to see robots with interiors in their car modes revisited again, weve come so far with engineering since then.
Good video as always, you should do videos about the other alternators in your collection,TF alternator is a really cool concept that not enough youtubers cover
I had the sideswipe Viper, I loved the shit out of it...then my younger brother decided he wanted to play with it and broke it into a million pieces over the years.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MY GRANDMOTHER GAVE ME THIS ALTERNATORS but its a bit banged up because they got it at a garage sale or something, some pegs broken, the gun is gone but i still love it because my grandmother got it for me
I really like to the top gear style and show also. I like towardiz toys that the Lines for the transformation flowed into the actual real life car as body lines it was really cool
At one point I was only buying 1/24th scale because of Alternators and Human Alliance. It was hard to get an Optimus Prime until Oversized was a thing. Was never into Alternity since they are out of scale.
I really wish that they could remake the line especially with the kind of modern engineering we have not to mention all kinds of cars or trucks we could have too
i love this series so much.. someone mentioned once, masterpiece before there was masterpiece.. i never really noticed before, either, the apparent 'foreshadowing' of design style of binaltech/alternators flowing into CHUG, i can totally see universe sunstreaker/sideswipe's legs in this mirage.. the binaltech series isn't just about some parts being diecast, there's other differences.. the steering linkage is actually little magnets, which be less prone to breaking than clips, but it is a bit looser.. hound has nice bouncy suspension (i dont know if alternators had that or not?) but wheeljack i think has the best looking engine with his weapon being all chromed out.. they are a bit awkward in bot mode, but hey-- no faux parts! 😎
I have the Smokescreen, Sunstreaker, and Prowl Alternators. This was easily some of the best stuff to come out of Hasbro, and was killed off way to quick
Just saying, Hot Wheels and Matchbox are scale 1:64 model cars and I had friends who collected NASCAR stock cars. Anyway, I actually really enjoyed the two Alternators I had - both Ravage. I got the Corvette Ravage as soon as I saw it because Ravage is just one of my favorite characters and it reminded me of Beast Wars. But then the Jaguar version came out and I have it on my desk at work now.
i actually just mentioned the other day that i would love an alternator of tf prime knockout in a nice glossy red. i forget what kinda car he is but a viper would be sick
I chose to start with the SDCC 2007 exclusive Alternators Rodimus because it was put on sale a little over two weeks ago through BBTS and was successful in getting it MISP sort of due to placing my order early enough in the day.
"I've never seen a child buy a scale model car" Oh boy, they want those model cars more than how much the U.S wants oil. It's just that model cars are pocket emptying expensive so they can't really afford these detailed cars
Binaltech and alternity are the shit. I just got into transformers in 2020 and bought all those for cheaper than what new stuff is. Everything is metal and rubber and amazing model quality that doesn’t look like it transforms at all
