This free coaching video reviews GOD blocking rules in the Power Wing Beast Offense by Coach Parker. The GOD rule stands for inside gap, on and down. These are very simple rule progressions for pee wee football players to understand. Many little league tackle teams use GOD as their main blocking call in youth tackle leagues across the country.

It's been a long time since I've played junior football... these rules are a great reminder as I'm now coaching a new crop of future linemen! Thanks for taking the time to show this!

Thanks Coach, this makes it easier for younger players to understand "who" to block...now we (our team) just have to work on the "how" to block our assignment

Can you do a detailed vid on both wedge and jaw blocking so I can teach this to my kids next week I just wanted to be simplified for them
@coachparker

I'll see I am pretty busy this week. I'll add to my list but here is an article on wedge and has some info on the Wedge Dance.

I like jaw because that very simple for ages 6 7 8 to understand for outside plays. What about something like jaw for inside plays?
@coachparker
@coachparker 6 лет назад
Akeem Satterfield we basically run Wedge blocking for inside stuff.

In general, what are the rules specific to the Center? Thanks for the info!
@coachparker
@coachparker 2 года назад
We have them help with one of the gaps or release to lb or near defender.
@chrisstudstill114

Will these rules work for the wingback? Running power and buck?
@coachparker
@coachparker 4 года назад
I would think they would but we usually assign backs a specific block. But should work like a TE.

Will these rules work for the rest of the line when you're pulling guards?
@coachparker
@coachparker 4 года назад
You can use them but need to adjust for who will FILL block for the player that pulls.

Your interpretation of 'down' doesn't fit with what I've seen as a majority, which is down = second level. If you're sending a kid 'down' two gaps over to the DLineman who is in someone else's play side gap you're wasting said blocker if the other blocker does his job and reaches
@coachparker
@coachparker 7 лет назад
The D in GOD blocking means Down 1.5 to 2 gaps depending on how you coach it. It is used for short yardage. I would argue this is the majority interpretation for youth football coaches. That's why I have GOLD and sometimes teach D in GOLD means any near Defender. I teach this for older players. This is the blocking system that I teach and many others so it works for me. If you do not like then teach what works for your teams. This has been highly successful for me since 2006 with a 70+ winning percentage and almost 100% playoff berth percentage. Thanks for your comment.

Stephen Parker I could be wrong, but if it's a stretch right, and your LT is blocking down to the A gap, and the LG reaches his gap to the play side number won't the LT do no good? Can't see how he would help but push the defender to the play side
@tylertripp4730
@tylertripp4730 7 лет назад
It seems like taking a playside reach to the second level would be a better use of a body
@coachparker
@coachparker 7 лет назад
Hey thanks for your comments. Do you coach youth football? What age group?
@coachparker
@coachparker 7 лет назад
Not sure to youth football linemen will reach the 8 hole from the 1 or 2 holes. Plus we have different blocking calls for Sweeps and Stretches in my book. There are about 8 different blocking calls so we just do not use GOD for every play.

How do you use your Center if they are uncovered in GOD? They don't have an inside gap or someone over.

Biggest baddest bad A Gap player guy to chip with then off to LB or FS
@robxyz2926

Does "Inside" refer to the gap "toward the center" or "toward the play"?
@coachparker
@coachparker 6 лет назад
toward the Center

So in GOD or GOLD, the play-side DE will need to be blocked by a FB, and back-side DE is left alone?
@coachparker
@coachparker 6 лет назад
Yes, probably the FB / Sniffer, WB, WR or Crack back by Slot. Many ways to do that.

Fullback or a Wingback usually.

@@coachparker thanks for response. Do you think you could run simple power plays out of pie or angle just using jaw blocking instead of bb splitting the hole? 23/25/27 type plays? We have a very young line (6&7 all 1st year players) and they really are struggling with blocking assignments. Our head coach is insisting on utilizing a qb under center and does not want to run any beast plays
@coachparker
@coachparker Год назад
Yes for younger ages we primarily just use Jaw blocking.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do with the backside of my line when using GOD or GOLD.
@coachparker
@coachparker 7 лет назад
They are usually blocking they same rule GOD or GOLD or GOO. Pretty easy. Many times I will have my backside TE block GOO Hinge to pick up the backside pursuit.
@AntHolm
@AntHolm 7 лет назад
THe tight end makes sense, but for the tackles and guards on the backside, are the inside gap still headed towards the center? Wouldn't this triple team a NT? Right now I have everyone backside angle block out. For the playside, the rules are well documented and BTW, I love the way you explained it, but the backside, not so clear. Thanks for your response
