If only he knew how important we really are to society. Without surgeons, people would die of their injuries and illnesses. Without lawyers, there would be no surgeons. Because there would be no education, or a society. We would still live in small tribal communities, physically fighting to settle any dispute.
@@illiminatieoverlordgurglek140 so it sounds like you're a lawyer and a surgeon. Your little verse posted, makes absolutely no sense and only sheep with a vague sense of reality, like it.
@@firewall8039 Lawyers are corrupt lmao. THey help murderers for a dollar. Doctors help the weak survive and reproduce. Nothing to be proud of. Making the genetic pool weaker
Hmm... Makes me wonder.... How many doctors in this country, have a "God Complex" or think too that "I AM God"? (and don't think they're aren't any, because there are lots!)
God will take their life someday, too. Then they'll know who God really is. :) Many in a position of authority, who can determine your fate, such as doctors, nurses, judges, lawyers and politicians have what's called *Narcissistic Personality Disorder.* This personality disorder falls into the *Cluster B - Sociopath* category in the diagnostic manual used by shrinks - the DSM-5. They can use it for good or for evil, leaving a swath of devastation behind them. Sherlock Holmes was a Sociopath. So is Donald Trump. (Yikes!) They have nerves of steel - or "brass balls" - because they have low empathy for others, the result of child abuse. There are a ton of vids here from victims of Narcissistic abuse. As well as on Trump as a Narcissist or Sociopath. No doubt Narcissism runs rampant in his family. Many an actor has it, too.
No. It wouldn't have. Because a simple "no" could be and would be beaten down. Whereas Baldwin's little monolog leaves the opposition empty handed. That's why this gem wasn't edited out of the script.
Because he's conning the attorney, he needs the biggest settlement he can get--and the more obnoxious and delusional he comes off, the more money he and Kidman will collect. He NEEDS to be seen and convicted as maniacal.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Doctors are supposed to drive beaters like yours to the hospital? There is nothing inherently evil in a fine BMW...I've owned 3. and anyone who can repair a faulty mitral valve DESERVES a 60,000 BMW--and maybe one for the wife!
I'm going to memorize this speech... make some alterations.... and when my kids get upset that Santa didn't bring them what they wanted when I spent thousands on new game consoles and Iphone 14s for them You as me if I have a Santa complex?... I AM SANTA .....Ho...ho....ho (X3 dark)
You've got to remember he said this in order to make sure there was a payout so he could reap the benefits of the lawsuit. So out of context it makes it seem like this is just him being himself but it was all a means to an end to get the money. Although I don't doubt he actually does feel this way in some fashion.
My Father had a tumor on one lung quite near the aorta. Let me tell you that all the religion and praying ever done would not have saved his life. But a doctor removed his lung and healed him while his heart still beat. Beat steadily for another two years after the operation. Two more Christmasses, two more birthdays, two more Springs, two more seasons of Michigan football, which he loved. A pulmonary surgeon from Johns Hopkins DID reach into him, cut out the death, and gave him his life back. Gave us our Father back. And Baldwin is right, when we prayed, it was to a surgeon at Johns Hopkins who corrected what "God" had allowed to grow inside my Father. I don't know what operating room he was in that day, but I met God. And his name was Dr. Stephen Yang.
Philip Hickman HAHAHAHA what a brainwashed religious idiot... It's so funny - you don't blame gods when your loved ones get sick but you give them praise to them when they get better. You can't have it both ways. If your god is 'all powerful' and he 'giveth and taketh away', then this is the truth: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eL6XJUBEiG4.html Fuck me... it's absolutely mind-boggling how many people are still brainwashed/braindead in 2018... Religions really do thrive on ignorance and ignorance is oh so abundant.
@@JohnJohnson-ok4gf Your certainty that there is no God is just as ignorant as a certainty in God. Do you know how complex the universe is? The answer is no because no one does and no one could ever comprehend the complexities in the universe. Whether there is a God or the big bang happened or something that has not yet been discovered (or may never be) happened, it is far beyond anybody's comprehension.
@Phillip Hickman No--it's "the way it is," Phillip. Your threats of persecution are just Ignorant, superstitious nonsense...trying to use fear of retribution to coerce naiveweak minds. It's an old, tired tactic....there simply is no "god."
5 stars for Alec Baldwin; he remains one of the most impressive actors i have ever seen. Check out his monologue in Glengarry glen ross if you want to see something similar.
I always remember this film for this scene. Great scene. Earlier I was talking to my friend Pat who had a bowl cancer threat a few years ago about my Mrs who has had a tumour removed and has just come home after spending a month in Hospital. Dad died just before Christmas after going into Hospital at the beginning of November, so you could say that I've spent a lot of time around Doctors and surgeon's. I told Pat that I've noticed that any like to say thier piece and don't like being interrupted or questioned (unless they ask the question "Any questions?"), she replied "Yeah, that think they're God at times". That made me immediately think of this scene after all these years and so I'm here. I've been very humbled by what I've witnessed these last few months, so I can't imagine one ever thinking of themself as a God but I will tell you this; When things got close and I was waiting for those 12/13 hours when she was in theatre, I was praying like nobody's business and if that surgeon had asked me for anything, I would have given it to him. I'm a spiritual person but if he had asked for my soul in return for her life I would have given it. I think he knew after I saw him recently. Or maybe he gets that a lot. I really don't know. So apart from the great performance by Alec Baldwin, I wonder if there's more to just the performance. Do they really feel that way? and is that why they come across as arrogant? or are they just so busy with very important work to do that they haven't got time to explain but just let them do thier thing because they know what their doing? A strange one. One thing's for sure; I'm glad he did do his thing because he really did know what he was doing. God Bless that surgeon . . .
I came here all these years later because my mother just got done with surgery and I was highly stressed an sort of an emotional wreck. I thought to myself too that this scene is based on reality. The level of knowledge and skill they have to have is mind blowing. They literally hold our most precious loved ones lives in their hands.
Price Pittsburgh I hear you. I sincerely hope that you Mum makes a full and speedy recovery. We have to embark on another journey soon. She has radiotherapy stating in two weeks time - everyday day six weeks. I want this to be over. But there is no guarantee that it ever will be. This has been a very humbling experience for me. God only knows what goes through her mind. I don't think either one of us will look at life the same way again. Take care . . .
I like it but I don't understand why he was almost whispering. He was really intense but I felt maybe if he could have raised his voice a bit to show just how irritating he found someone judging his profession it could have created an over shadow of what happens later in the movie and creates a more sinister character for Dr, Jed. I see it as a good scene but it has so much potential to be a movie monologue that holds a place in cinema history.
"I have an MD from Harvard. I am board certified in cardiothoracic medicine and trauma surgery. I'm from Mitch & Murray. And I'm here on a mission of mercy!"
@@anthonycaruso3688 if you think Baldwin's character did anything but lose in this scene then you didn't watch the movie. They were trying to get him to say exactly this, and he more than delivered
The movie is Malice, of course. This is one of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema, in a rather run-of-the-mill thriller. Check out Glen Gary Glenn Ross for his best monologue, based on the play by the same name, written by David Mamet. Baldwin's scene was not in the play. It was strictly written for Baldwin. This is one of the most famous contemporay plays of our time, with an extrodiary film cast, including Pacino and Lemon, but shit...Alec needed a scene. Fucking brilliant!
Man, y agott alove this man!! :):) One of my heroes of the big screen :) I auditioned for a film way back using this monologue, AND I got the part :) Thanks for uploading this, AMARU.
well my thoughts after watching this movie is simple: this classic scene would deserve to be in a much more classic movie. The movie itself does not deserve this scene cause it turned out to be just some average, confusing and semi-predictable thriller. And i dont like to be second guessed :-)
This speech should win the award of the coolest speech in film history. The only one up there is "I could have been a contender" from Marlon Brando. But he would just be a contender to this one.
I always loved this monologue but it hits too closer to home now. I turned to the best surgeon in the city when I got sick and I'll only be thanking him once I'm back to having a life
I remember when this movie came out, they used parts of this monolog in the radio spot. I was driving home from work when this ad came on. Now I'm not the least bit churchy or religious, but when he got to the "I *am* God," part, I damn near had to pull over.
Dr. Hill: "I have an M.D. from Harvard, I am board certified in cardio-thoracic medicine and trauma surgery, I have been awarded citations from seven different medical boards in New England, and I am never, ever sick at sea." COVID-19, Delta Variant and Omicron enter the room. ☠☠☠
A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility. Such a person will usually refuse to admit and may even deny the possibility of their error or failure, even in the face of complex or evident problems or impossible tasks.
This side show is over!! "Lol" just pure great acting by Alec, i wish they gave oscars by the scene cause he owned that board room, good movie and an amazing scene!! Malice...
When the future Henry V was shot in the face by a ricochet from a long bow at the Battle of Shrewsbury , they sent for the best surgeon in England. When he arrived at the room the Prince was lying in, it was full of priests praying and burning incense, the Surgeon threw them out and carried out a successful operation by removing the arrow head .
