Yes. My grandparents fled Europe after ww1 but prior to ww2. I joined the American military and when I iraq as a private I got yelled at by my first sergeant I joked how he didn't come all this way to fight the Germans 😆. I still imagine him in counseling taking about how he "took on a German" and how the therapist would insist he was making shit up
Once at an airport there was a german shepard puppy in training, complete with an oversized harness. And I was so lucky because the guy in front of me was the man he was searching for in the crowd. And I have never seen a group of people at the airport as happy as when that puppy found it’s target. We were all clapping and cheering this little puppy on and it was so proud of itself! Obvious I couldn’t pet it as it was on duty, but it made all of our days! Puppies on airports are the greatest thing ever! Nothing chills a bunch of stressed ass people as a little fur ball looking for drugs ♥️
Oh yeah, agreed!! My grandparents have had 8 German shepherds over the years (I've never met any of them, I'm just too young to have.) and he always tells stories about each one's little quirks. Pepsi would either push him out of the bed some nights or take his spot when he gets up to use the bathroom. I'm forgetting some names but one of them was basically an alarm. One of them was a trained police dog that just didn't make the cut. When he met her, she had a rep of not liking anyone, to the point where the people who ran the place wanted to give him a bite sleeve. He didn't take it, she didn't bite and actually really liked him. It's fun to hear about my grandpa's dogs, really cute shit, lol
Dad and me (just a kid then) trained our German Shepherds . He was good as gold but one evening we had a garden party ,my sister danced with dad and he went for her until dad showed him that there was nothing wrong. He was the first of many German Shepherds we had and when he died i buried him. He was my friend and i was heartbroken. Now i'm old too and that's okay . See you soon Blackie.

My husband and I had a German Shepherd we got from a family that were moving but also neglected him. Max was the dog of a lifetime, so loving and SOOOO protective. A man my husband knew walked into our fenced in yard without telling us he was coming over. My husband heard Max and our pittie growling and barking and went out to check things out. Max and Shy (our pittie mix) had this idiot backed up against the wall because he came in without an introduction. Guy kept saying 'but I know all about dogs😂' as my husband saved his sorry butt. Well these 4-legged vicious protectors of mom and dad didn't know him and were hell-bent on protecting us from a stranger. I miss those dogs so much. RIP Max and Shy, you two were the best dogs ever 😢
Ive had dogs my whole life! Big and med, mutts and specific breeds. Right now I have a working line GS an let me tell you WOW! I’ve never had such a smart and insanely affectionate dog. I’m talking like if she could talk she would tell me she loved me every 20sec but not in a annoying way. She is my little narc when there’s any action or something is out of place. I’m convinced if we had a fire she would save us but she would never let the firemen near the house or me! It’s amazing
I had a senior German Shepherd lab mix that I rescued, and he was the smartest dog I'd ever had. He could open fences, and close them back mind you, and would do it quite often in his previous yard, but the lady who owned him moved into a smaller place to be closer to her family and couldn't take him, (he was massive) so she left him with people who were supposed to take care of him in his old age and they didn't. I had been feeding him through the fence for months when she came to check on him and after explaining what had happened I asked her if she was going to take him and or if I could keep him and she saw how he was already following me around so she let me keep him. After I got him I never once had the issue of him opening our gate. He never went anywhere away from me. He followed me everywhere and would howl when I would leave and then sit at the edge of the fence waiting to see the car coming back 🥰 RIP Cody. I still miss you💜💜
My grandparents used to have a German shepherd. My mom was worried how the dog would react to baby-me and didn't let the dog near me. But the dog ended up sleeping outside the room's door to protect me, which was honestly adorable
@@thenovicegamer007idk if this was intentional but you could also pronounce it as "das scheppert" which is a rather uncommon German expression to the effect of "this is smashing it", so in that case the new dog is smashing it
Literally one of the sweetest people I ever met was a German substitute teacher. The rest of the kids didn't really share this sentiment, they didn't give him more than 3 minutes with the class before everyone broke out into chaos. I could tell he was expecting a very different dynamic.

Das is neutral, der is male, die is female (it can also be mixed up in the plural forms). Shepherd = Schäfer = male = der -> correct would be der Shepherd. Here the dog is called deutscher Schäferhund (= german shepherd dog) because we like to give specific names 😅
A friend of mine and I had shepherds for many years. Loved them. We went up to a K-9 unit with the windows open and started sweet talking the dog on duty. We thought the officers were not in the car. Next thing we heard was the speaker on the unit saying “ ladies, you’re killing me.” I guess the dogs tail was whomping him.
In my experience of Germans there is a binary, and absolutely no spectrum in between. Either uptight, grumpy, complete a*holes, or the most wonderful, fun, happy people ever. Thankfully, most of the Germans I've met have been the happy type.

And a lot of police departments are going back to the German shepherds and away from the Rottweilers. It's because Rottweiler's jaws are so strong when they grab a suspect's arm they have been known to break them.
My dad used to have a german shepherd but he sadly died, my dad had him when he was seven, he made a ton of awesome pictures when he was a teenager. His mom made two blankets to remind him of the dog. Like to support my dad😢 👇

For some reason my school thought it would be a great idea to put this kid who was brand new to the country, let alone to the school, in front of all of us to tell us about himself. He decided to have some fun and started speaking German. We were all super confused for a minute or two, then he stopped and switched to English. "I said, "Hello, My name is Johannes and I wanted to show you what German sounds like when it isn't being yelled."" I don't know if someone told him we had never heard German except in History class, seeing clips of Hitler but dude was absolutely right lol none of us had ever heard German spoken normally. Love the skit. Das Shepard made me cackle.

@@unterdessen8822so true!!! Every time people insist that German is a "scary sounding language," I tell them, "Verzeihung, aber ich hätte gerne ein Brötchen mit Butter..." or something like that. Because everything is scary when it's screamed at you and it's worse if you don't understand the language. It isn't scary at all when used normally.
@@Nariasan Exactly. Think of where people usually get to hear German and in what context: H*tler speeches and Hollywood villains. And those villains are in most cases actors, who don't speak German, so they try to compensate by being extra loud and aggressive. Of course that sounds horrible and robotic. Think, on the other hand, of dialects like Swabian or Saxonian, that are just hilarious to listen to.
@@unterdessen8822 lol, I find Swabian adorable. I myself am from the Allgäu Region in Upper Bavaria... I have a bit of a dialect and have to concentrate hard to speak neutral Hochdeutsch 😅

"Das shepherd" is btw a pun, a homophone to be exact. In german, you can say "das scheppert" meaning "that crashed, and was really loud while doing so."
Even thought you had me laugh at this (I love puns), I think this is a referece to the German Volkswagen commercial. It ends with "DAS Auto", meaning that the car (Auto is the German word for car) is a must-have. Volkswagen is DAS Auto (THE car) and Shepherd is THE dog.

I was born in America but my parents are German. It’s honestly kind of funny how contrasting their voice is to their words when they speak. They sound aggressive but they’re couldn’t possibly be more kind 😅

I'm German and my grand uncle was a police dog trainer. When I grew up he was already retired but he had a giant German shepherd which was just as well trained as a real police dog. He was giant and fluffy and the bestest boy and I loved him a lot. RIP Arko ❤️
My first dog was a german Shepard, I was 4yo and I still remember how soft he was, how he carried me around on his back and how much I loved him. And how my father gave him away so suddenly. I´ll never forget him....
Did we share dads? I have that same exact story! My parents told me they gave our german shepherd dog away a day after my father gave our dog Away!!! Ugh.. so i never got to say goodbye. I was 8 yrs old.. never forgot that!

I use to have a German Shepherd who loved children and was very protective of them. He's gone now, he had to be put down at 15 (or 16, he was a rescue so we never knew his real age but we know it was 15-16 when he went). He would stand by any small child and sit and watch them. He also prevented them from getting close to the water (living on the coast) if they had no one around them. He was very well behaved and just a big scary teddy bear.
I have a German shepherd and she loves people. She would never bite anyone. People are just scared of her because she tries to greet them but she gets a bit over excited and starts barking and jumping around. She is the sweetest dog ever. She's 11or 12 now and is still as active as ever. (The only problem is that she tries to attack small animals i.e birds, ducks, rodents, and iguanas) she also begs for attention by rubbing her wet nose against your arm and whining.
I had a German Shepherd for a couple of years when I was a little tyke that was just the sweetest gentlest thing and very protective of me and my sister. She definitely influenced my choice of dogs at a young age and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I too will gladly take the compliment of "You sound mean, but you're actually really nice". Still don't think we Germans sound rude though. As someone who has a 5 year old good boy 3000 since he was 6 weeks old. I can confirm that they are look super aggressive but are giant goof balls. I love my best boy and everyone who's ever met him loves him.
I used to babysit a 3-year-old who had a German Shepherd. Whenever we left the house, that dog would walk so close to the child that they were touching, but never actually bumped into him. He barely twitched an ear when I arrived in the mornings though - I only had to be introduced once. He always looked relaxed, but if the wrong person had ever tried to get near that kid, I'm not sure they would have survived the attempt. He knew who was allowed around his little boy and who wasn't. He was beautifully trained too. Great recall off-lead. A very good boy.
My neighbors that were like my family had an old German shepherd dog, he wasn't trained but he was very protective of me. We always walked in front of the pack very proud

My friend had a German Shepherd. It ran screaming down the stairs when she let literally anyone through the door, it was embarrassingly racist, and it humped the legs of random strangers. So, we’re the same 😅

PTSD doesn't just happen from war(which is where Shell shock comes from originally) its a reaction to violent trauma. Which could be war,or even something severe happening in your childhood(like being a victim of a mass killing and being one of few survivors.) It can,in fact,be a mental issue.
My neighbor has a super playful German Shepherd named Bear. Everyone in the neighborhood knows him. EVERYONE. Whenever someone passes by they say "Hi, Bear!", he gets so many pets and dog treats.
God's reaction to Das Shepherd was exactly my sister in law's reaction to seeing her late German shepherd, when she was still a puppy. It was love at first sight. My sister in law still tear's up when seeing pictures of her beloved Keera. And honestly so do I ❤️.
I used to have a German shepherd named Jake, sadly we had to put him down due to age, but from what I can remember, this is true, we barely even trained him and he was loyal, strong, smart, and affectionate. He would sit in my dad's lap (he was NOT a lap dog), taught himself to turn door knobs, and would stay by me and my sister when we were little. He was the best dog ever, R.I.P. buddy, I miss you.
Those limpid brown eyes seep into my soul every time. I can confirm that GSDs are everything you and god arranged. One of mine was such a force for good that nearly 30 years after his death (Nov. 20th, 1995) there is still a charity fund in his memory at his vet's office. All dogs are wonderful, but GSDs have a special place in my heart.
It’s impossible not to love a German shepherd. I’d take a rottie too but I love my German shepherd. So loyal, loving and barks at the door and gets 60% of it right.
That’s the most adorable dog I’ve ever seen. I fed my dog. Mishka was in German Shepherd, but her ears are down and she looks more like a cow and she’s the same size as that German Shepherd it looks like it’s about like half the size of my dad, which is about the size of your average man.
