I just rescued one yesterday, everyone was chasing her around with food and she got really aggressive, I sat down and put the food beside me and faced my back to it, had a leash in my hand and after she ate it I showed her the leash and collar. She kept moving away and coming close, after realizing I wasn’t gonna force the collar on her and only would put it on if she let me, she happily came home with me
Lol so accurate! The one we had would never hurt anyone, but he had this low guttural growl, and it was SCARY. Anything he saw as a threat he'd get between me and the threat, sit, and growl. It stopped people dead in their tracks, but even off a leash, he wouldn't charge, wouldn't move from that spot, and would snap out of it as soon as I said, "It's ok Ragnar." Lol I never even trained him to do it. He just did it naturally, and I couldn't think up enough things to teach that dog. Super quick to pick up commands, and NEVER broke the rules. Easily the best dog I ever had.
They are the best breed. I finally got my pup a few months back and she is so smart amd so stubborn and I love her so much! We have a cranky old dog amd she doesn't let hom get away with anything. And her instincts with children are amazing🥰 I lovey pit dearly but I could never ask for a better breed than a rottweiler
@@darkvoid9751 Ragnar was the name of the legendary viking from the Nordic sagas. Ragnar Lothbrok. The first part of the show Vikings is about him. It's also an incredibly badass name for a Rottweiler. XD
That particular sound is actually called "The Rottweiler purr" that's one of the many many vocal sounds that this breed makes in a sincere effort to talk to you, but not just you. They talk alot more than most people think, some are just as vocally opinionated as huskies!!
Yes!! My dad rescued "bully" breeds my whole life. We got Lady because the next door neighbor was a piece of shit to her she was only 10 months old and she lived to be 12 years old. She saved my niece from being kidnapped off the school bus, my dad was in the yard with her and the next thing Lady jumped over the fence, my dad runs and sees her mouth clamped on the inside of a guys thigh, she heard my niece scream. She also would find other animals and bring them into the house!🤦♀️. Kittens, birds, to love on.
It's astounding. The large, intimidating dogs you don't want thinking you're lunch are some of the sweetest and gentle of dogs, and then you got the tiny ones that to take you on
Hunting dogs are the ones to watch. Everyone thinks the hound dog is just a big ol sad sack of fur but nah many are absolute assholes. Not all, they can be great. I have one but don't try her. They also tend to not give 2 shits what you think or want of them. Respect is definitely earned with them.
A lot of the problem with little dogs is that people tend to let them get away with behavior that wouldn’t be tolerated out of big dogs. If a big acted like they were going to tear off people’s face anytime someone got near them, it would be a problem but when a little dog does it people think it’s cute and funny. 🤷♀️
@@evil1by1 also guard dogs attack the nearest organ, cuz theyre made to incapacitate people, hunting dogs have an instinct to go for the throat, cuz theyre made to kill animals wer'e lucky 90% of them are super-chill, they dont have a hunting instinct towards people
This describes my Rottie, named Mojo. 💜 He was an American Rottweiler, and he was HUGE! 150 Lbs. in his prime. His big, round dome head was nearly twice as big as my own head! He was a beast! Heavily muscled, fast, and had this fearless look in his eyes that told you that he was ALWAYS paying very close attention. He could be VERY intimidating to strangers. He had that look. However, he was SO smart, and loyal, and sweet, and kind, and loving, and patient, and tolerant. Best dog I've ever had. Sadly, he passed away just before he would've turned eight, because of prostate cancer. I still miss him terribly. I love the breed, and someday I might try to get another, but not yet. It would feel too much like trying to replace a beloved family member. Perhaps that sounds silly, but to my heart, he was simply irreplaceable. He was one of a kind. I miss you, Mojo. I'll always love you, buddy. 🐾
Have you thought of fostering a shelter dog? You'd be making a tremendous impact on it's life, and making space for the shelters to save another dog's life.
My rottie died when I was 13, had him since he was a puppy. I always believed he was running around heaven having the best time and he’d be there waiting for me when I go. Oh… I made myself sad.
I hope he is. I don’t believe in an afterlife, but good Dog do I hope there is and that it’s full of dogs. And that I get to meet and be with my Kim again. And I wish the same for you❤
Heaven is real, and it's full of dogs. I lost my mutt more than a decade ago, but I'm completely sure I'll see her and play with her again, just as we used to. BTW, God is also real. This comes from a former atheist. Blessings!!
My wife adopted a rottie mix just over a year ago. He still doesn't like me but is very protective of my wife. The little brat is scared of everything and people laugh at that. But you try to hurt my wife he flips the switch and is taking atleast one leg and probably an arm with him.
My friend did search and rescue, also cadaver location dogs. His favorite breed for this work was the Rottweiler as they had both strength and stamina. He took his four year old search dog Klaus to NY after 9/11 to locate human remains. The work was physically exhausting also emotionally stressful. The humans there would often collapse because they were overwhelmed by the nature of their task. When Klaus saw that he would go over, sit with them and comfort them. Sadly Klaus was exposed to toxic substances on the 9/11 site and became very weak and ill (my friend got COPD.). He never recovered and died at age 6. An extraordinary dog.
My first exposure to a rottie was at my dogs training class. He was the instructors dog. I was sitting there talking to the instructor and this huge dog, named Snoopy of all things, saunters over and sits on my crossed leg…he almost weighed as much as I did at the time. I was propelled forward by his sheer weight but didn’t dare move. Then he starts with this low growl which was pretty frightening and finally, the teacher says, “Snoopy! Get off of her!” More low growling in protest…I am not usually afraid of too many dogs but I was that day lol. He and I became friends and he was a sweetheart. Beautiful & scary looking but a great dog. 🐾♥️
@@chocolatefrenzieya I have to tell you that my dog was a Maltese/Yorkie and weighed about 8-9 lbs. (smallest dog in the class). He barked and huffed at those way bigger dogs like he was telling them who was boss. I think I actually saw a German shepherd stop and laugh at the little guy. He lived 15 years and I still miss him after 10 years. 😊 vet said that those little breeds have the ‘heart of a lion’. Skyler certainly did. 🐾
Lol he probably wasn't growling, he was probably grumbling in annoyance because you hadn't started petting him soon enough. I'm sure it sounds scary though when you don't know the difference haha.
My first Rottie encounter was the mechanic’s dog. I had to hang at the garage while my dad got a repair and she just leaned against me while I petted her to the point we both fell over. Such a sweet love bug
Yes they are definitely learners. I took care of my friends Rottie while he was recovering from knee replacement surgery. I would pet him and make a fuss over him and he would lean on me. Once he pinned me against the shed and I couldn't move. I had to call my friend and ask him to get the dog off me and he thought that was funny. A sweet boy and greatly missed.
I am a pet groomer and I always end up with the Rottweilers and Rottie mixes because many groomers don't want them. Some are super scary when it comes to nail trims (I think because many have ticklish feet, can relate) and will bare their teeth but if someone just gives them head pets while I do it they are perfectly fine. Love the breed.
@@laylaluann9541 of course not. That's ridiculous. Everyone in my family is vaxed and boosted and we're all great. None of us have gotten Covid yet. Good luck. I hope you don't get lung scarring.
My friend I would visit, had a Rottweiler and it was huge and I was a little intimidated. But it loved me! It would follow me around their house and sleep with me. It whined when I left and when I would go back to visit was like a child at Christmas💕 When they called tell me Rumble died, I cried like I lost my best friend😔
I remember I had riding lessons at a stable as a kid. One dude had a rottweiler, who presented her belly to me. I rubbed said belly. She went "RRRRR". I recoiled - the dude went "No no, that means she likes it! You're fine." I proceeded to make her go "RRRRR" some more. Sweetest baby.
Our neighbors had an out of town emergency and asked me to let their rottie Zeus out everyday. I had never met him before and he is huge. They told me that he is all show until I open the door. I came to the door and he had the loudest bark acted like he was going to break trough the window hewas barking at. I took a deep breath to make sure I was calm and openedthe door. It was hilarious he turned into a giant marshmallow! He was the sweetest big baby pup ever. I enjoyed visiting him several times a day for a week
In fact, My interactions with this big boy has made me and my husband decide when our beloved senior GSD passes ( hopefully many years left still) we are going to look for a rescue rottie
I had a rottie as a kid, he was named Dragi after another rottie my grandparents had called Drago (from rocky yes). Unfortunately we had to give him away because as he grew we had no place to keep him but I remember him being the sweetest and dumbest most obedient dog ever. Loved him immensely. Eventually i grew up and got a beagle and honestly, he made me realize how obedient Dragi was. Still loved my beagle tho.
Beagles are so fun! But not exactly "I'll do what you want" kinds of dogs. Mine could be a little stinker, but she made me laugh a lot, loved adventures, and I love her and miss her so much!!
Moe our male (RIP) would herd me away from the scary, loud table saw. I thought he just kept getting underfoot, until I realized he was protecting his mommy ❤️. When I moved in, he was my boyfriend’s dog at a year old, but he became mine and would sit in front of me when we argued, protecting me and not my boyfriend! Sweetest dog I’ve EVER encountered. He craved affection and could never get enough. We later got a female, Millie (RIP). Best dogs ever. Very smart, very loyal to those who love them.
This profile is 100% accurate!! and I love you for getting it so right! I tell my Rottweiler the only thing that could make him perfect is if he could make me coffee! In every other way he is a 10 out of 10 stars!! Adorable and terrifying depending upon the moment!!
When I was a kid my mother's friends John + Gail had a rottweiler named Ben. He was the size of a pony, + definitely of the "I will cuddle you FOREVER" variety. He could -- + frequently did -- sit his butt on the couch with his front paws firmly on the floor. They had a table with one big central leg, + four long feet extending horizontally from the bottom. I doubt I will ever forget the sight of Ben gently, carefully pulling my toddler brother over the feet by his hood. Around + around under the table, little brudder limp as cooked spaghetti, giggling helplessly. Bless you, Ben. Biggest, blackest, best dog.
It's a 50/50 chance is so accurate. Rotts read people really well so you really can't tell if they're going to like a lot of people, but they are so sweet and loyal.
@@OnlyKaerius only ones I knew that wouldn't like any strangers around were not socialized young. And some people want them that way, where they only accept their inner circle and are standoffish to all newcomers. I want my dogs to not run up to everyone, but I don't like them to be leery of anyone new either
My dog was a rottweiler/ border collie mix. She had the rotti colouring and the ears, but everything else was border collie, including the size. So you can imagine a black dog, watching you intensely with it's head down and without moving a muscle - until you make one move and then she's after you to tear an arm or two. We did this for fun, so I could train her to stop on command. And it's a good thing I did because I was able to keep her from attacking some nosey neighbour. She was derpy, but she was my best friend and bodyguard.
My in-laws had rotties, one decided to love me and protect me by sitting over my legs /lab when ever we went over there. Not a problem, love dogs. This was fine except when I was pregnant; 90 lbs of dog 7 month belly.
Why hasn’t this guy got a million subs? He’s extremely switched on as to the dog breeds personality’s. He’s brilliant! I have two Rottweilers and he's spot on. The song hotel California comes to mind “you can check out anytime but you can never leave”.
I was going to send this to a coworker but his Rottie girl died last week; he had 3, one is a male from her litter and the other is a mix from one after (half-sibling). He's a super tall old-head with big trucks, a boat, lives for himself. He's a cook, I'm a "tiny" waitress, and we bonded because my first day on he yelled at me for something he thought waitresses should know and I matched his energy defending myself because I was new. (I'll never admit my size irl; call me small and I'll vehemently try to prove I'm average size, but the truth is that the statistics say that's not true anymore, so I get the surprise). I wish I knew what to say to him now, but I had my first cat boy pass in January; even still having his mate, 2 of his kids, and brand new grandkids he will never meet, there is nothing that anyone could ever say to make me "feel betted". I will always miss him, just as he will always miss her. I'm aware that this comment is longer than the video, but thank you for showing a little light on such a feared-but-astounding breed of canine.
@@FoxyPeace213 I appreciate that. We've actually been having some good conversations at work lately, all off the subject. He's still definitely low, and as he always puts up such a tough front I'm trying not to get too emotional with him, but given the progress I can only guess that it's the only help I could possibly give.
If I lived in a place where I could have a Rottie, I definitely would; I've always wanted one. Not only are they beautiful dogs, but they're supposed to be very loyal & protective of their families.
I had a Rottweiler as q kid, his name was Sirus, he never caused any problems and was a big ol' cutie who liked protecting me and my siblings. I think him and my other childhood dog (Coono, a German shepherd) are the reason I'm in love with big dogs, the first dog I ever got was a pitbull (a very broken pitbull, but a pittie nonetheless). My dream dog now is either a borzoi or a Doberman, can't decide.
I think that describes American Bulldogs too. I had one who was just a huge teddy bear. He was also very protective but very low key most of the time. Strangers were either terrified of him or they wanted to hug him. There seemed to be no in between.
I was probably around 7 when we had a Lab Rottweiler named jet. We knew her parents from a barn we rode at. She was the last one there and apparently no one wanted her. We lived on a 5 acre farm where our dogs helped us with our horses and had a good life. Unfortunately when she was two she jumped the invisible fence to chase a deer and was hit by a car. A cop called my parents and confirmed it was our dog jet, he then asked my parents "do you have a collie and is he friendly". Our collie max followed jet after she had ben hit by the car and he wouldn't leave her side. Even though we didn't have jet for very long she was one of the best dogs we've ever had. Rottweilers are really great dogs.
Now imagine a cross with a basset hound. That is my chancho! The best dog in the world!!!! Adorable, cuddly, chunky, short, super chill but playful, when required, and does not bark, unless extremely necessary, he is so loud the whole neighborhood can hear him. Anecdot:I have never seen a dog allow another dog closed when they are chewing on a yummy treat, but chancho just let his little buddy(pugapoo) go on top of him jumping over looking under barking at him, and he will not care. Chancho is the most patient animal I have ever met❤🐷
this sounds like an amazing behavioral combination of patience and loyalty! you’re lucky he isn’t super vocal bc i swear the hound dogs in my neighborhood know exactly when my alarm goes off and wake me up 15 min earlier 🙄 both breeds can be crybabies but it sounds like you got a gentleman
I HAD A ROTTWEILER/BASSET HOUND!!! He literally looked like a giant weiner dog! He was a cry baby that loved cuddles and being held while going to bed. I miss him... had him for 14 years.
Did...did the basset hound use a step ladder or something?? How do you cross a rottweiler with a basset hound 🤣🤣🤣 did it just take a really good run up
I know a woman who used to have a pitbull/basset hound cross (it died of old age a couple years ago i think). The basset was in heat and the pit bull jumped the fence. It looked like someone had transplanted a pit bull head onto a basset hound body. Such a ridiculous dog.
My cousin had a Rott (his name was Buster, RIP). He was the definition of Goodest Boy. He thought he was a tiny little lap dog and always wanted to cuddle with the family. However he was super duper protective of my cousin and her daughters. He wouldn’t let anyone come near them (except my cousin) for the first few weeks after they were born, and even after that, whenever someone he didn’t know was remotely close to the kids, he put himself between them and the kids (didn’t matter if they were 2 feet apart or on the other side of the house).
The rottweiler I grew up with could trace his bloodline back to the Roman cow herding days. Super smart and little smartalec. He was pretty big overall for his breed. I would never recommend this breed to anybody that doesn't have alot of time to train/socialize their rottie. With Bear I grew up with him and was around nearly 24/7 till kindergarten. Very family oriented dogs from the passed three of them I had. How much effort you put in really shows.
Agree re' the Family Dog, a mates Rottie was a brilliant pal for his 3 boys, the toddler used to lead him around and use him to stand on to reach 'forbidden' stuff on worktops etc.
I love how you mentioned how they’re smartalec. All of mine have had that class clown mess with you personality. It’s one of my favorite of their traits.
I think we all just re-watched Grease, Godspeed Olivia!!! My old Rottweiler Wiser, was pretty much that… had a scary as hell growl, but never hurt anyone, not even when when my toddler neighbor stuck his fist into his mouth!!! Miss you Wiser!
God: “What…is it?” Chihuahua: “Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr” Angel: “Honestly I just wanted to see what would happen if we stuffed a demon inside a body smaller and less deadly than most house cats and made it subservient to humans. Well, at least their masters. Oh and so far some humans love them, they dress them in tiny clothes like babies and everything and hardly take their anger seriously because they’re so tiny.” God: “but why?” Angel: “oh, I just heard from downstairs management that we have too many demons and damned souls in hell so this seemed like a decent way to fix that while still continuing their punishment.”
That's hilarious 😂 Rottweiler are honestly the best breed. It's just the fact that people are scared of them the issue. Sometimes you have actual limitations with them just out of other's preconceptions. My Rottweiler good girl has been a sweetie her entire life. I enjoyed so much the time spent together, her personality and all that I cannot find comfort in other dogs anymore. She was the wisest, sweetest thing, she looked out for me for 11 years and now I feel she's still doing it from somewhere, I can't see her but she's here.
I had one that chased lasers and would lay down like a human would if I let him on the bed. He put his head on a pillow and stretched out on the rest of it. He was the sweetest dog I have ever had.
Our 8 month year old is the biggest mix between a terrifying bark but will literally lay on your face when he wants to snuggle lol best. breed. Ever 🤗❤️
Hah, the 50/50 chance is very accurate. Sometimes even my own rottie would scare me cause he had such an intimidating face. Absolute sweetheart though. Lost him a week ago. I miss him.
First time I met one, I was a little kid, like 10 or so, not certain, and the neighbors had one tied out in the front yard. I LOVE dogs so of course I wandered over and introduced myself. We were best friends from the start. When the owners came home they saw me playing tag with their "guard dog" and freaked out. Apparently watching a full grown rott chasing a ten year old makes people nervous? :p They then watched me turn around and chase him as he ran off.
My stepdad had a rottie named Sassy, she bonded so well to my sister and me that stepdad got jealous. She would win all play sessions by sitting on your chest and not letting you move till she felt like it. She always turned into a super guard dog when ever someone new was around, shadowing us kids everywhere while growling at whoever she hadn’t warmed up to yet. Absolutely fit the “f*** around and find out” description lol. She was an amazingly good girl tho too ❤️
Rotties are phenomenal dogs, they honestly impress me sometimes how good they can be despite their very scary and intimidating demeanor. Perhaps one of the few well-ish bred dogs (temperment and intelligence are selectively bred for in dogs if you are a good dog breeder). It kinda worries me actually that they're getting more attention and love. Because that creates a higher demand for them, and higher demand leads to unethical and sloppy breeding which in turn results in dogs that may not have the best temperments (and potentially health issues as well); look at what happened to labradors --> I've seen an overal increase in aggressive labs when part of their breed is to NOT be aggressive or easy to trigger, as well as a huge increase in cancer and bone deformities.
I had a rottie name blackjack growing up. This was in the 90s. Everyone on the street was scared of him. He was also protective of us kids. Following us everywhere.
I love this as all of your posts. Must say husband and I were first on scene after a rotty mix mauled a neighbor. So much blood and a week in the hospital for our neighbor. Rotties need the right owners (which this one did not have.) All dogs need the right owners, but big dogs can cause more injury if they don't.
Perhaps one of my favorite breeds of dogs, lol! They'd be in my top 5 if I were dead set on getting a purebred dog in the future. I never met a Rottweiler who wasn't an absolutely sweet and laid back dog.
Thank you. I so appreciate the Grease Reference. I grew up with the movie and I was surprised how the crossing of Olivia Newton John affected me. Indeed, it was a great movie. She was so Light…AND I love Rotties so it’s a Win Win. I wish I could give you more than one thumbs up, so I left a comment.Laughter is the best medicine. Be Blessed.🌟
It’s true… you can never have enough dogs. I love love love Rotties! A neighbor has a Rottie-pit mix, and he’s got the sweetest, squooshiest face ever and… I love him. I want to be his human
Thank you for sharing! If your reading this I hope you have a great day and know. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV
