To explain why this stuff doesn't carry over to god of war 1, they show in the ending Athena taking Kratos's weapons. I assume they also took all the items he collected too.
I would love a game series to faithfully explain why like Metroid for example we all know we will start with something from old games but you know before you start you got nothing
@@bankshot4203 In god of war 3 ironically its one of the only games where items carry over. Icarus's wings (weirdly enough) were the only weapons carried over.
I appreciate this video. One thing I must disagree on is Caliope. Her plot is relevant in how it shows the tremendous sacrifice of Kratos to do what’s best for everyone. Having to push her away mashing circle really sets in how emotionally taxing this is for him, and gives us all the motivation to take down Persephone. I personally found it a great scene.
Right but it makes no sense to his character since he could care less about others. If it was more into his character he would prefer to be with his Daughter. But I get it, he didnt want her soul to be wiped either
Even though you never see Calliope for a majority of the series, this small QTE was painful. Having a young sibling, I put myself into Kratos’ shoes and just didn’t want to do it. This is everything Kratos has been fighting for, to avenge the family that was slain by the trickery of Ares.
The only reason he saved the world pillar from falling was to save calliope. That's the sole person Kratos did that for. In order to save calliope, he had to push her away again. He didn't want to save anyone else except her. It's not selfless. Entirely selfish decision
There being no music in the first phase of the persephone boss fight is a bug where the music wont play, i have experienced this myself when playing the game on hardcore and having to play the fight multiple times with occurrences of the music playing and sometimes not.
I was just thinking about your retrospective on the main trilogy, my favorite videos pertaining to one of the most nostalgia ridden trilogies for me, so decided to look them up. Lo and behold you just uploaded another retrospective for the franchise. These videos are gold dude, I'm hyped to watch this. And I don't get hyped about content on RU-vid very often at all.
This is pretty good timing, as I just got the platinum for this game, as well as beating it on God mode. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make it so that the chests no longer fully heal you needs a talking to... It's still easier than the first game's god mode, but it doesn't feel as fair at the same time. Overall it really is a less polished version of the first game, outside of some of the nice additions that God of War II brought. Felt like two steps forward and one step back in a lot of ways. Though, some of the issues you encountered at the end of the video I didn't really have problems with, such as the invisible walls. I did think the stuff with his daughter was pretty memorable. Worth playing for that I'd say, story-wise. Also, I think you were out of sync in the beginning of the video. I lot of what you were saying didn't really match what was being shown. Otherwise, it was a very good video, and I'm excited for Ghost of Sparta.
Loli can understand that i remember getting this game for psp back then playing it being on a beach and found the game hard to look at, turned it off and never touched the psp since bought a ps vita tho lol
I was also stuck in the euros room. I still remember that face on the steps, even though I only played this game once and it was over 10 years ago. however, I have to add that the puzzle does have a logic, the statue refers to "east winds" because the hidden solution is to the east, but you have to first consider looking at the room from the statue's perspective, which is facing us, not forward, so the east is still the solution but from the statue's perspective
Hahah! I got stuck in that Euros room too. Some real bizarre puzzle design. I got a lot of love for the portable God of Wars, but you can really feel the lack of polish as far as game direction goes. Ghost of Sparta on hard is the closest this series has ever felt to unfair imo. The way they streamlined the gameplay loop really appealed to me, though! It's not quite the adventure the main trilogy offers but I do enjoy this more segmented approach they went with. That and, despite how shallow it was, it's nice to get any look at Kratos' family considering they drive the plot so often in the trilogy. That Calliope QTE is really memorable, I wish there was a bit more to it. Anyway, good video my dude! Just wanna say that they do show Kratos losing his abilities (including the one weapon that would save him from needing Pandora's box later) in the post-credits scene you mentioned, even if it's still not the best explanation. Looking forward to your next ones!
Thanks! Yeah, I hope they can make a game going back to before the blades of chaos at some point and really delve more into Kratos as a character, but I'll mention that more in the Ascension retrospective. Either way, glad you enjoyed the video!
The reason the flute began to haunt Kratos was because the Morpheus was trying to put him down into his deep slumber kratos dreams are to be with his family.
This is the first god of war game that i played. This is the reason why i love GoW game series now. That's why i really llove this game and it's memorable since this is the one that introduced me to my favorite game series. Such a fun time to look back at these old GoW games
For me dodging using the triggers are better than moving my finger away for dodging. Also the start of the game where they show the backstory of Kratos is only in the remastered.
I was expecting you would mention statue of euros issue and I was right the whole time, it really confused me too even replaying the game years back then we all just had to look more and more areas to uncover that room LMAO but still I got to say it is the hardest non-puzzle level in all of the series I played. aside from the annoying statue, I got to say your video really gets me It brings so much nostalgia to my PSP and you manage to catch my attention especially that statue hahahha thanks Mighty Nifty for this keep more videos coming.
Kratos is only there to kill the Basilisk, he cares little for the safety of Attica. Hell he even kills Attica foot soldiers sodat he can heal himself.
I think it because he playing it on the ps3 instead of the psp so he expects the game to be better because he on the same playing field if he played it on the psp he would probably be easier on the game
yall are saying the relationship between him and is daughter is out of character. so yall just completely forgot the ENTIRE REASONING OF HIM FIGHTING THE GODS IS HIS DAUGHTER AND WIFE, he always loved them more than anything and would be with them and sacrifice sparta to be with them again, he went to fight for sparta and ares tricked him in killing both his wife and daughter. thus betraying the gods for what they did and with nothing left by his side he fight for whats left under his feet which is sparta its self

Nice video! Just so you know, the PSP Persephone boss fight did have background music, but for some unexplained reason, this was lost in the PS3 remaster.

Easier? On Very Hard difficulty, I thought CoO was coniderably harder than other entries in the series, even to the point where I went back to Hard difficulty. I hate those off-screen attacks.
I figured out the euros room in the first 2 minutes within being there 😂 I’m not sure why no one bothered to check the left side of the steps lol . I would have to agree with your retrospective of this game. It felt bland compared to the others games but it ran good for the psp at the time of it being released, like you said how platforming and puzzles were cut down I do prefer for there to be just a little more but they had some solids one. The new design of Tartarus or the underworld was a lot better than the first god of war, I must I do like the opening sequence of kratos being chained up upon beginning the level, nice touch to the game. The story with it does make some kind of sense and does give us some plot holes but the story of him being the same loving father as before once he is reunited to calliope adds an emotional touch once he forced to make the decision of leaving his daughter to save the world or sacrifice her life along with everyone else. Seeing the cutscene of him and the vision of calliope next to him still hurts and adds more of a reason for him to keep working with the gods as he waits for them to rid him of his past nightmares. The gameplay was still the same nostalgic feel as the previous games which is always a nice touch, the gauntlet was a interesting weapon to say the least and the magic were kinda good I have the say the demon of Efreet was a badass magic since it was of another mythology. Overall the game is still one of my favorites in the series and I wouldn’t give a second thought about playing it again
Ghost of Sparta is one of my favorites kinda sucks that most people just skip over chains of Olympus, ghost of Sparta, and ascension as I personally thought they were all amazing good fun. Can't wait for the ninth god of war game
Question: Is it worth still playing this game and any other old GOW games? Hell yes, chains of olympus has one of if not the most underrated and unpaid attention moment in the series. We re comparing a trilogy of incredible games to a first try on a portable version. Obviously they would be the weaker versions of GoW. Its like expecting the betrayal java game to be amazing. Its an ok game. Its a java game so its good enough for what it is. The PSP games were good for psp games tho. They have to be simple, digestible and not be able to burn your battery. Its basically saying that they want the game to last a full battery cycle. And it does. You can beat the game in roughly 4 hours if not less, so yeah. Tl dr its unfair and stupid for those people to criticize and compare portable version to some of the best games ever
The QTE of Calliope was heartbreaking the first time i saw it, saying as a long time fan of the series. I played the main trilogy before either of the PSP titles, so I had the full context of the family. When I was put into this situation, all I could think about was when Gaia took the form of his wife in the second game and the utter remorse and despondence in Kratos’ voice when apologizing. Everything he fought for, all the horror he committed, the trials and tribulations so that he can avenge his own misdoings. Only to be spat on his face and told to reject his daughter for the betterment of others. This is a little bit of a break from character as Kratos is a monster, but even in the early games he does show glimpses of his humanity from time to far in between time. Even though there could have been better execution arguably or maybe better scripting, I feel this fits the game and the character rather well as a whole through the lens of the franchise rather than just this one game.
I definitely disagree about the opening not being anything special the only thing I remember about chains of Olympus before replaying was the intro taking place during a siege and being able to see the events of the siege and that idea is awesome
6:15 enemies will stop spawning after some time of killing them, and also they will stop putting back the ladder I found it out when i tried to use them to get enought red orbs to fully upgrade blades at the beggining of the game.
Hahaha Nahhhhh i couldnt dissagre more in this one. CoO is probably the closest to a good writting plot in the franchise. GOW I and II plots were mostly an excuse to put Kratos in mazes where he had to achieve a goal and defeat a character because of venganze. GoS was inconsistant as hell, Deimos changing his mind in second after years of acumulated hatred towards Kratos was hilarious, and Kratos mom chaeacter was underwelming overall.(the same with the villain) And yeah, suddenly Kratos has to go though a test to become a god, after he killed Ares, completely NOT comin out of the developers ass.(lol) Gow III is a narrative mess with really cringe dialoge in a lot of cutscenes (hope, really?), and Ascension is even worse and innecesary. GOW PS4 is good, but has some stupid things, like Atreus changing his attitude 180° in minutes, that was forced, and i personaly didnt like the comedy with the dwarfs. And they never explain how Kratos changed so much. CoO is amazing, you have a real mystery with the antagonist, who is also not evil just because, but has real motivations, the reasons why other characters knew Kratos (Atlas), the stuff with Caliope is foreshadowed from previous games, and millions time better than the Pandora girl in III. Sure, the plataforming and puzzles are inferior to the ps2 ones, but the pacing is wayyyyy better. (Also a better hell) And the drama is more real than ever, i actualy felt sad in the QTE with Caliope, something id never tought i would fell in any GOW at that point. Kratos shows a tender side of him, but without being out of character. AND THIS IS WEIRD FOR A GOW GAME. And again, unlike Deimos, we knew about Caliope already, so the drama is wayyyy more organic. It also makes sense for him not to be that strong in the begining, unlike other games where he is suposed to be a god, and still strugle with random fodder. You say that nothing will stick with me after playing it, but better that then what sticked with me after playing III or Ascension. I wish i could forget all about that.xd GOW never had amazing narrative, but this one actualy tried, and for that i will recomend over other games of the franchise. For me is the third best GOW over all, after GOW I and II. I replay it A LOT.
Lol what a troll comment. CoO had the most inconsequential plot out of any of them. Feeling more like a 0.5 lite version than anything. The environments were bland and lacking detail. The combat was uninteresting and tiresome. The boss fights will def not make it on any best of lists. The challenge was non-existent. The ending was forced and came out of nowhere. Even Kratos was damn unlikeable repeating the same gibberish we’ve heard in the games prior. I’d say also the fact it was like what, four hours long, was a problem. [but that might actually be for the best] I replay it THE LEAST.💀🤷🏻♂️
