I love Atreus grabbing Kratos' hands in first person. It creates a perfect thematic mirror. When Kratos beat his father to death we saw his hands in first person. How his son is holding his hands.
It also looked a lot like how some of the cutscenes from God of War III showed Kratos's perspective when Pandora was pleading with him to be better than he was, especially after Pandora reminded him of his daughter so much. He's seeing both of them in Atreus now.
Lol for those who didn't understand Well kratos killed the whole greek mythology so when he says that ever heard of it and boi says no Kratos says" exactly" because it doesn't exist
I love the concept that what happened in Greece was something so insane and impactful that it shook the other pantheons enough to make them recognize the name "Ghost of Sparta.". I love the reverity Mimir has in his voice as he talks about the event like it was more than just something to ignore. A god went rogue and killed off his entire pantheon. Meaning that even if you're an almighty God, you have to take notice. You have to acknowledge the story.
Well, you also gotta remember that kratos began his god killing quest by killing ares as a mortal. So not only he was a mortal that killed a god, but a god that escaped the underworld 3 times and killed all his pantheon by his own. No wonder why other gods would know him and even fear him, as by the trailer of GOW Ragnarok Thor, the guy that kills anything on site for fun specially giants, spoke to him first rather than straight up going for a fight.
@@Resi1ience Imagine GoW 9 when Kratos found his way back to the land of Greece. Only to be greated by a bunch of Zeus offspring all-over-again as the Roman gods. "One time is funny two times is fkin annoying, no?"
I think the people loved mimir because he literally the thoughts of most players in the game. Like 90% mimir gave kratos advice or asked him questions, I was literally like "that's what I'm saying my dude"
What I like most is the respect Kratos gives to Mimir’s warning. Usually Mimir speaks in a sarcastic and witty tone, which Kratos usually ignores or dismisses. However, he was dead serious, which confirmed the reality of the situation they were faced with. A small detail, but it shows just how much Kratos trusts Mimir’s knowledge, even if it isn’t completely shown most of the time.
A nice touch and also easier. Just take the old models, beef them up to modern day polygon counts and then give them a misty texture instead of trying to map the old textures back on. A lot easier than trying to make a new Zeus from scratch
@@jaylynpayne1 i don't really think so, its been heavily implied that hes only so weak because hes been holding his powers as a god of war back so that Atreus doesn't realize what he is.
@@adarus9941 bruh, no. He does no wield the blade of olympus nor a weapon close to it. He is not nearly as quick as his younger self, nor does he have the other godly possessions he has and titan level strength. Current Kratos would get his ass kicked.
Atreus did see the vision of Kratos and Zeus. he was literally locked on to what was happening. You can see his eye shift back and forth from Kratos to Zeus. I appreciate the depth this game has.
@@Pwilliams4000he's trying to please kratos by not mentioning it. He's trying to gain his father's admiration and approval, because kratos always either scorns atreus or waves him off when talking about his past. He's trying to be Kratos's optimal son. It's pretty sad. Mimir was right
A small detail that I love about this moment, is how all the pieces come together for Mimir. He says after you get the blades that he'd already suspected Kratos was Greek, and him talking to Athena was confirmation, however that isn't enough to really tell him who Kratos is. It's only after he learns Zeus is Kratos' father, and more importantly the spectre of Zeus says Kratos' name does he finally put everything together.
I like how Atreus pretends he didn't see Zeus and Kratos's phantoms to comfort his father's conscience. He's observant and mature enough to pick up on Kratos's awkwardness and disregard it, respecting his father's boundaries. In my opinion, this truly shows he's taking steps in the right direction from his arrogant ways he had upon realizing he was a God.
i think the same, its crazy emotional maturity to be able to gather that dropping it would best, i couldnt do that now and certainly not at is age, its very strong charicterisation
@@sharsasuke01 right these people played this game for the first time and act like they know everything most of the story is in gow ghost of Sparta and gow Olympus but I don't think that it's easy to get a psp now
I mean in his heart he knows kratos is a good man so he probably just naturally assumed that Zeus did something terrible in order for kratos to have to fight him.
Pay attention to how Zeus said his line before fighting against Kratos in the vision. Kratos is so guilt-driven that he isn't even remembering what actually happened. Zeus sounded so neutral here that Kratos forgot that his own father wanted to kill him. In Kratos's own memories, he thought he was the monster in his past and none else.
@@eljoho622I mean to be fair he literally has his family's ashes branded on his skin for all eternity because he was tricked into killing them so it makes sense why he went crazy and killed everyone
@@cow00717he killed them not because he was tricked by Ares, he killed them because he didn’t pay attention to the people he butchered. Only afterwards. He was a bloodthirsty beast.
Thats why my man kratos showed empathy towards him after he ripped his heart. Young kratos would have ripped his heart like he used to rip a cyclop's eye.
The game switching to a POV shot while the memory Kratos was beating up Zeus, just like it did in GOW3, and Atreus being the one to pull real Kratos back out of the POV shot, was phenomenally well done
@@jakattack1301 Well that and he's a Spartan he knows how valuable Mimir is I mean it would be a needless waste to kill him (sentiments being a secondary concern)
Honestly, one thing I don't see enough people comment on, is how ashamed Kratos is about his past, and how worried he is for his son to see what he was like. The humiliation and shock in his voice when he asks atreus if he saw, and realizing he doesnt care about it, he's just concerned for his father getting to safety. This game did an amazing job at developing the characters.
Artreus showed some great maturity in that last clip, hes fully aware his father wants to leave his past behind so despite all the curiosity a kid his age has he feigns ignorance out of respect.
Yes how dare the kid not question his fathers atrocities 😂 considering his life was in danger, its a pretty shit dad move to not explain some things...you know before the issues happen lol
Man this scene is crazy. That giant bird/animal in the background, Kratos asking, "what is that place?", and Mimir's seriousness makes this scene eerie as hell.
At 0:16, that is the last place certain people or anyone needs to ever go. The place that is out there in front of Kratos is known as oblivion. Mimir tells him of course to never go there unless he wants to relive all his past deeds for the rest of time itself. So, it is a good thing Kratos took his words serious or else he would have been stuck in a place worse than Tartarus.
What I love is Kratos' character development, its very clear that Kratos did not want to kill the troll because he hasn't gotten in his way and the troll is just doing his job, after he grabs the heart Kratos lays his hand on the troll as a sign of respect before leaving.
Killing Zeus helped him shed the pain of his life as a man. Faye and Atreus gave him true peace. He isn't the blood fueled rage monster he used to be. It's like when the Hulk gained control. The power is still there, but the fury isn't. Arguably, the fury enhanced his strength to surpass even God like power. He is weaker, but also more focused. Wiser, but more vulnerable because of his newfound peace.
It’s amazing the sheer shock and disbelief he has when he sees Zeus again. Even the way he says it is like, “oh man not again”. He did always look up to Zeus and had some level of respect for him, I think that’s why he was so betrayed when Zeus turned on him
I love how Atreus doesn't even ask what he saw between Kratos and Zeus and pretends he never saw anything. He understands his father has a past he would rather forget and that it no longer matters now.
Two interesting points: 1. After taking the Heart, Kratos takes a moment to seemingly pay respect to the Bridge Keeper, something he never would've done in the original trilogy; this goes to show how he's matured emotionally over the years 2. When Mimir tells Kratos to stay away from whatever lies beyond the bridge, he does so without any verbal quips as he usually does, he simply says "NEVER go there"; the fact that, for once, Mimir is not being sarcastic emphasizes that he's being dead serious (the only other time he does this is when he tells Kratos he'd sooner die than suffer one more day of torture at the hands of Odin), which in turn is reflected by the fact that Kratos doesn't even argue
That and the fact Mimir sounded dead serious when he tells Kratos to talk with Atreus about his past and the heritage of Atreus has (son of an ascended human to Greek god and a Norse gigant) before its to much late.
@@shockmsy Atreus probably figured how much his father resents himself and his past and decided not to press it anymore further which he doesn't, until Freya forced him to talk about himself to his boi
considering we have no clear idea how these mixed gods existed between each other, we dont know how much he knows. After all, he did not know kratos was zeus son
At 3:30, i do still remember every second playing that scene in GOW3 in first person. The developer made it great to see it on a third view perspective
Kratos: "What is that place?" Mimir: "Never go there. Understand?" Kratos: [Walks away.] Mimir: "It will be filled with all the gods you've ever slain." Kratos: [Turns back around.]
I love how Atreus gets to know his father well enough to know that not only is Kratos sensitive about his past, he's afraid of Atreus knowing, do he says what he does to make him feel better. Also, his plan was just "put myself in mortal danger to snap my father out of his funk"
I would simply interpret it as "he's very afraid and confused about what he saw" seing his rather composed father be this enraged was a first for him and should make him very afraid. he's still a child.
4:01 for me is the strongest line with the most on-point delivery in the entire game. Just two words loaded with more than the character was ever able to speak out loud
@@joelcastro-reyes1667 they did redub Zeus' lines, they brought Corey Burton back, but his lines don't sound exactly the same as in God Of War 3, especially the "it is time" line
I like the scene where Kratos takes the gatekeeper’s heart. It’s pretty restrained compared to some of the straight up bloodbaths from previous games. Combined with his clear discomfort and the forlorn look he gives the corpse, as if to say “I’m sorry”, it shows how he now realizes how much pain and suffering he sows and no longer takes any pleasure in it. And that’s something this game does great as a whole: it shows not just a continuation, but a maturation of the God of War series.
@@justacatwithasadface2692 Violent content is universally known for being more mature than censored or relatively less violent content. I’m merely stating the obvious. There is nothing “mature” about playing a game that was censored for the sake of infiltrating younger audience groups. Perhaps the older games were more straightforward and spent less time on the overused “parent/child dynamic” from Logan and Last of Us, but that does not make it any less mature than the new God of War.
When Kratos hear Zeus calling him, "Kratos" Kratos probably thinking, "Ah shit... Took me a few hours to kill my father on hardest mode... I don't want to go throught it again..."
it's quite sad actually, kratos seems so terrified to see an illusion of zeus Even against zeus who he once wanted dead the most, he feels tremendous guilt and now it seems like his past is coming to haunt him
@@parklez3250 Its cause Mimir is not only the norse God of Knowledge but because he's traveled to the Celtic Realm and who knows how many other realms (likely a few between Norway and Scotland) him Tyr and Odin are probably the only Gods who focus outside their pantheon (Odin is paranoid though he does not seem to consider a threat outside his home pantheon a possibility (he seems obsessed with the Giants but somehow not other foreign realms which frankly would be a better place to look for answers)
Do you guys feel some form of pride when Mimir finally learns who Kratos actually is, such a well made moment in this game. Like I experienced all the previous games in one moment.
Kratos would feel at home in the marvel universe, he’d meet his parallel universe version of his pantheon family. Zeus isn’t a bad guy he’s a decent dad, and his siblings are pretty cool
@AccessDenied It isn't in this video but when Kratos remove that Troll's heart by ripping his chest, Then he gently place his hand over this chest.. You can check for the Helheim Troll fight
That is the second most badass scene in the franchise. The most badass is when Kratos gains the power to kill a god when Zeus's ghost in strangling him
[Kratos] if all on Olympus will deny me my vengeance then all on Olympus will die i have lived in the shadows of the gods for long enough THE TIME OF THE GODS HAS COME TO AN END
As much as I like Christopher Judge's voice for the older Kratos, I think they should have kept TC Carson's voice in the flashback just for continuity purposes.
Is no one going to acknowledge Atreus did see Zeus and Kratos fighting in the vision, but only focuses on helping Kratos without regard of said vision?
@@chadwickdavis8529 in the game, it's shown how Kratos never wanted to use the Blades of Chaos again, because they reminded him of a past he tries to forget. You can see that when he kills the Gatekeeper. He screams when using the blades to kill someone in the most brutal way and even puts his hand on the dead body's chest, a sign of respect, showing how Kratos never wanted to use those blades to kill an innocent person/creature in the most brutal way (by ripping out his heart) ever again. But he had no choice. It was either doing this or letting his son die.
not just that, he felt sorry for what he had to do to him. kratos decide to change and avoid any needless kill ever since his vengeance. but this time he had to kill someone who havent done any wrong to him. and while it was for sake of saving his son, this all could be prevent. his determination for hiding the truth from atreus set the event chain of boy's illness and put the gate keeper in a situation that he has to die
