This is from the 1964 34th Anniversary album entitled "God Said He Would Be With Me".
Lead by Norvis Grant
Bishop Smallwood Williams was born on October 17, 1907 in Lynchburg, Virginia. A few months prior to his birth, his father died, leaving his mother (Mary) widowed, and with child. mary was a dynamic spiritual, and educational influence on young Smallwood. At the early age of fourteen, he began to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in Columbus, Ohio where he and his mother had moved. Columbus is the place where Smallwood spent most of his early life.
Not long after graduating from high school in Columbus, this young boy pracher was licensed at the age of sixteen, and at the age of eighteen, he became ordained, the youngest so honored in the Churches of Our Lord Jesus Christ. As Smallwood progressed into young manhood, the late Bishop Lawson talked with him about going to Washington, D.C., to organize a church. In presenting this great challenge to Elder Williams, Bishop Lawson did not paint a rosy picture, but instead he told Smallwood that washington was a "preachers graveyard, and a mission wreckshop". What a challenge! Although he could have refused, he humbly accepted.
In 1927 Elder Smallwood Williams was sent to Washington, D.C. by Bishop Lawson. From this appointment came the powerful organization known as the Bible Way Churches. At the age of twenty, Smallwood left the comfort of his home in Columbus, Ohio and arrived at Union Station in Washington, with only $5.00 in his pocket. He often related how that two angels met him at Union Station, "Goodness and Mercy," and how they continued with him until the end of his life.
In 1941 the Bible Way Church began broadcasting over radio station WINX on Saturday nights. This brought the church great recognition and attention with many more citizens in the Washinton, D.C. area. Elder Williams would frequently announce very catchy subjects to preach, and people would come out to see its usual scriptural basis, and how the sermons would be developed.
The Bible tells us that it is not good for man to dwell alone. Elder Williams went to Washington alone, and single. However, he had been in courtship with a very fine young lady, sister Verna Lucille Rapley of New York City. Verna was serving as pianist and director for the Refuge Temple choir. She was loved and cherished by the New York congregation for her loving personality and talent. She was a jewel to the church, but now she had become engaged to a well-known young man in Washington, D.C., by the name of Smallwood E. Williams.
It was out of a National Pentecostal Ministerial Conference, September 25-29, 1957 that the Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ World-Wide was born. This conference was held at the Bible Way Church, 1130 New Jersey Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C. The authenticity and orthodoxy of the Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ World Wide can be attested as to its validity; Historically, Experimentally, and Doctrinally.
Bishop Williams was a civic leader and civil rights advocate. He fought for justice and racial equality. On June 28, 1991 at the age of 84, Bishop Smallwood E. Williams went home to be with the Lord.

You're welcome Dwayne. I know lots of the saints from Bible Way as I am of the Apostolic persuasion myself. Bishop Smallwood E. Williams was a great man despite what many say about him. I am very familiar with the church splits that have occurred over the years as I am an older saint myself and a church historian. I do have some more older stuff by this choir. God bless you Bro.

THat's awesome. I'm not familiar with much of what has gone on with Bibleway's history. Before I moved to Georgia, I was supposed to meet up with some seasoned members, including Rev. Wallace Williams, but time didn't permit. Maybe I'll have a chance once I go back home to visit.

Chief Apostle Smallwood E.Williams founder of the Bibleway Churches, since its inception have propagating the good news over the ether waves! Many of the pioneers working on the building. I heard him preach once on a Sunday morning in the 80s in his elderly days in Washington, D.C. I responded to the preaching of Bishop Showell in Baltimore MD in 1977, Carolyn Showell was the director of that dynamic choir maybe besides Bethel was the hottest anointed choir in the city. I wonder do the young men from the youth detention center still come on Sunday nights to attend service? Many of them along with myself were baptized. I was a few yrs. older than the guys, never will forget!

Thanks so much for posting this! I have the recording as well, but my copy isn't as pristine as the one you've posted. I too am a product of 1130 New Jersey Ave. I am a life-long member of Bible Way in Paterson, NJ, but my mother joined Bible Way, Washington in 1948 and remained until she relocated to New Jersey in 1956. In fact Bishop (then Elder) Smallwood E. Williams officiated her marriage to my father! I've got Bible Way in my BLOOD, LOL!

Terence, you are welcome. Trust me when I tell you that my copy of this album is in no way pristine. What you see is a great photoshop job, as is the case with many of my albums. The sound was even worse. It took forever for me to get this to sound like this. I know I worked on this album for 2 or 3 days and I can still hear artifacts. My roots are apostolic. I wouldn't have it any other way. God bless.

God bless you for posting this historic and spirit filled recording. This is a part of my roots an heritage. The Bible Way Radio Choir of Washington, DC. I saw a beautiful picture of the late Mother Verna L. Williams, who was the directress of this choir for many years. She was also the wife of the founder, the late Bishop Smallwood E. Williams. God bless! A beautiful rendition!

the church where the choir is pictured was taken in what is now the chapel which is located beside the present building. I came from Bibleway and yes apostle Williams could preach I remember he came to the Uk just before he died even in his latters years he could hoop.

I am apostolic myself and have been in the church for quite sometime and am very familiar with Bishop Haywood, Bishop Lawson, Bishop S.E. Williams, Bishop Randolph Carr, Bishop S.N. Hancock, etc. I know my heritage very well, but normally refrain from responding when people mention these things on the internet. Those men spoke great substance. That's what true preaching is all about, not just in delivery. What good is the package if there is junk on the inside when it is opened? Most people today are more concerned about HOW a preacher preaches instead of WHAT he preaches.

@@normikaboston7377 I remember there were some pictures years ago in the larger church. (I can't remember where about) and background behind those photos concerning apostle Williams. Are they still there? That's where I learned that the Bishop was active in the civil rights and how he had the fight figuratively speaking for the land. Do they still shave the Bishop's Bio book? I remember Apostle Bishop Williams wrote a bio book I think it was titled "this is my story. "
