Just a note - many people asking why Hail To Bermuda was not played. Officially Bermuda recognises God Save The Queen as their official anthem as a British Overseas Territory , and this is what the Olympics chose to use. In the Commonwealth Games, Hail To Bermuda is used.
@@MrJohnheywood ... there is no confusion for Bermudians. The Queen is on the monitary coins and dollars and so is the anthem played, long before "Hail to Bermuda" was written. I grew up on "GSTQ"
Makes sense I just wonder how flora felt as I’m sure she could if asked for hail to Bermuda to be used. Also the team that that got bronze was probably like huh hah So basically any over sea territory that uses GSTQ as their anthem it will be played for a gold medal
It's such a great and emotional feeling to see Bermuda, my old home country getting recognized at such a pristegious event. Congratulations to you Flora you made me so happy. Thank you.☺
Looks like a bit of confusion , Bermudas official anthem is God Save The Queen however they do have a local anthem as well. It seems in this case the official anthem was used.
@@britishoverseasterritories4036 it should not have been. This is a massive honor and it should not be overshadowed by the anthem of a separate nation, “official” or not.
@@BrickPerfected it doesn't matter what you think or want. Do you also want to throw a tantrum over the union jack being in their flag as well? Fact is, they are a British overseas territory and like it that way
Any real Bermudian is not troubled by this. "Hail to Bermuda" didn't even exist when I was a boy. At night, when it struck 12AM and TV would go off, EVERY NIGHT it was "God Save the Queen." EVERY Service Member answers the call to draft "In Her Majesty's Service" So ... the only people who are off boot about this, are non-Bermudians who just don't get it, or probably this younger generation.
This is the 2-verse version:- "God Save The Queen" (Lyrics) 1. God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen! 2. Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour, Long may she reign! May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause, To sing with heart and voice, God save the Queen!
Yeah, America footage is piss. They only care about interviewing AMERICAN athletes, even it its a bronze or a fail. We've been noticing this piss poor bias.
Amazing sight to see the flags of the US (top of the table at the last Olympics) and the UK (second) both a little underneath the flag of tiny Bermuda. :) (although the Union Flag does make a cameo appearance on Bermuda's)
Makes sense to use GSTQ as it’s their official anthem I just wonder how flora herself felt although technically it is a British country. Just goes to show that if any oversea territory gets gold they will use GSTQ

I don't think that will be fitting as the airport is already named after a Bermuda hero the late Frederick Wade. It would be better if the National Sports Centre would be renamed "Flora Duffy Sports Centre" as it is currently not named after anyone.
Here's some fun, given that this is instrumental, Americans can sing "America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)" because it has exactly the same tune when this plays.
For the Olympics it would be Hong Kong 1996, for the Commonwealth Games it would be the 2018 Gold Coast Games with the British Virgin Islands winning gold. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rd3j6nUtfeE.html
Firstly, there isn't anymore any crown colony, all are overseas territories (there's a huge difference, an overseas territory has a full and complete autonomy and it runs its own internal affairs by its own, democratically by elections, but they count on the UK for their external affairs, military protection and economic support. A crown colony is ruled directly from London in every aspect and the status of a colony is not by the approval of the native people of that place) that have chosen to be under the status of a British Overseas territory and no-one force them to be like that. Secondly, Australia, New Zealand and Canada used to be dominions and now they are commonwealth realms, so they are completely independent from the UK, but the head of state is the British monarch that has a separate throne title to every commonwealth realm (for exp. Queen of Canada, Queen of Jamaica, Queen of Australia etc). Thirdly, GSTQ is still legally in use in the commonwealth realms as a royal anthem, except New Zealand that has the status of a national anthem alongside God Defend New Zealand and is the official and legal national anthem of every overseas territory.
@@Charlie-xz8dg well technically in New Zealand GSTQ is not a royal anthem like the rest of the commonwealth realms, but legally is a national anthem alongside God Defend New Zealand.
@@heinkle1 no it's not strange since the official national anthem of Bermuda is GSTQ because Bermuda is a British overseas territory and not an independent country.
Yes, it's the wrong proportion for the Union Jack flag, but in order to keep the proportions equal to most of the world's flags, the Union Jack flag has two. The proportion 1 used at sea is 2:1. Used in the land is 3.5
