THE BEST SHORT STORY I HAVE EVER READ WHEN I WAS 17. 10 YEARS LATER AND I STILL BELIEVE THAT.

I’m not religious and actively hated my Catholic upbringing, but Tolstoy really has it figured out.

Something about the pacing really reminds me of pacing of Morgan Freeman's character's narration in that.

I first read this story when I was teaching in an international school in the Middle East. I looked it up this morning because I wanted to use it in some writing I am doing. It seems there is a younger generation which needs to hear of read it but who may still not understand that one day all of us will stand in judgment before a Holy God. We will have to confess and receive the sentence on our lives. There will be no escape. However, there is time today to seek God's forgiveness. It comes as did Aksenov's through Christ Who took the blame and shame that was the curse of our sins when He died on the cross. Tolstoy has done an admirable job of portraying what justice and forgiveness really mean.

Justice exists in this world, just not the way we see it, or might not be executed as quick as we expect it to. Everything has a time and place. In the end Aksenov did get justice which granted him eternal peace.

Got the justice at the end. Still sounded not fair to me 😔. Another point I learned here is, like Jordan Peterson mentioned in one of his biblical series...just do good wherever in life you are placed. Thank you for the video 👏👏!

"Gave up drink.... expect for just once in awhile." Yup, now I know this a direct translation of Tolsoy's and not a rewording. That sounds like something a good russian would say.

Ouch! What a story! I think the Bible says that God will wipe away my tears if I do God's will. God is God. His timing is perfect. I like the story of Job; the ending part. (I think that Job's wife had to say sorry to Job & give him sex because they had more kids) I wonder how God will wipe away my tears?

Leo Tolstoy could have given a better good ending like, he met his family and they lived happily everafter, but his ending is real life , that's how life is bitter and sweet. He spent all his life praying to give him justice and free him of all false accusations. When he died he died as a righteous person but serves no good. I just cannot understand the importance of God here.

*_Thank you very much for listening and feedback!Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy- 9 September [O.S. 28 August] 1828 - 20 November [O.S. 7 November] 1910), usually referred to in English as Leo Tolstoy, was a Russian writer who is regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. He received multiple nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature every year from 1902 to 1906 and nominations for Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, 1902, and 1910 and the fact that he never won is a major Nobel prize controversy.
