she was sold to the palace by her kidnappers. how would they know who her father is at this point in the story?

@@Tyarrk I said it was an example. My point was she’s being threatened. Jinshi does not have knowledge of herbs, poison or medicine like she does, so Paws’ initial thought that would be how he would “control” her doesn’t work. They never also explicitly state in the anime at least what the controlling means would have been, other than Jinshi adding on to it by trying to seduce her. It’s reasonable to assume they’d go the path of “hey, fuck around with poisons and kill or hurt someone, and we’re gonna kill you as well as people you care about”. Since they knew she had the ability to make poisons, anyone dying of poison would point to her, so if she did do it it would mean most likely she didn’t care if she gets punished. So threatening her loved ones is the better way to make sure she doesn’t. Also, she said a couple episodes later buyers can’t tell if she was sold legally by her family or by kidnappers, meaning maybe he just assumed she came to the rear palace of her own will or her family’s.

@@Pawsanime see my other comment, but he doesn’t have knowledge of herbs, medicines or poisons to any extent she does, so he can’t control her like that. Also wouldn’t stop her from being able to poison someone unless he sat around watching literally every move she made. Meaning it had to be a threat.

Well I wouldn’t get too technical for this story. Though how many survive cooking, have no immediate effects, result in no detectable presence, etc., may limit down the sources and types.

Yeah it was and is one of my favorite anime series with strong female leads like Toradora, Sakura Quest, Snow White with Red Hair, and Ascendance of a Bookworm (that has a Season 4 in prep). Myne/Rozemyne is also an obsessed gremlin although into books not herbs.
