I have a Godin. But I was lucky enough to try both once, and I heard the same thing as this video. The Gibson has a warmer, fuller sound. And when you have it in your hands it shows that the Gibson is superior in many details. What if it is possible that the Godin is more versatile. But if I had the possibility to choose, I would choose Gibson Chet Atkins (Gibson no longer makes a pity), it has the most similar sound to a classical guitar, although there is still no guitar of this type that is equal to a classical one.
Some months later ... Great comparison. Clearly the Godin has a more analytic sound, the Gibson has more harmonics - so this begs the question, would it be possible to get a more similar sound from the Godin with an appropriate electronic filter? I got an answer from Godin support - they said using a tube preamp would warm up the tone. Actually, found one such setup ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K7UwlV3qpOY.html

They both sound great. I bet that the Multiac costs way less though. That's usually the case between the two "Big G's" of the guitar world and I do mean BIG. Most people in the USA don't realise just how massive a company Godin is. Names like Seagull, Norman, LaPatrie, Art & Lutherie and Simon & Patrick are all brands in the Godin stable.
I realize my comment comes 6 years later but the newest flagship of Godin is the Grand Concert Deluxe and comes quite close to the Gibson in sound. That being said, I still prefer the Gibson. A real shame they don’t make it anymore.
I hate it when we get these demos and not a word is said about the amplification that is used including whatever pedals may have been used. We all know that amplification used can make a huge difference in the quality of the sound but for some reason a lot of these people just completely ignore it and just want you to listen to them play. So can you answer that question please
This is not a correct comparison, the Gibson guitar has a system with independent microphones for each string, the Godin guitar has an electric piezo on the bridge, If you want to do a good test between these two guitars, you must compare it with a godin that has a system RMC of six microphones.
has anyone else ever had issues with Gibson Chet Atkins' 1st string sliding off the neck? i never had this happen with any other guitar before, but i had to get rid of mine because i couldn't get use to it. it just felt like 1 string was too close to the edge of the neck and i sometimes feel it slide off the neck.
I 've had my Gibson CEC since new in 2001 and never had any sign of that issue for either the high or low E strings. Your's must've had a nut slot that was cut too far out to the edge of the fingerboard.
The Godin Multiac Duet is much much cheaper ($850 new) with a thinner neck width vs the Gibson's full width neck. A better comparison would be against the Godin Grand Concert Duet Ambiance ($1,600 new) which sounds much deeper and has a proper full neck width. That said, the Godin Duet in this video sounds a lot more like the studio tone of the song Shape of my Heart. Gibson Chet Atkins guitars are $2,500-3,000 used.
The Gibson was available in CEC 2", and CE 1.8 ish . They are solid heavy guitars. Great tuners. Buster B Jones played the Godin a lot. The Studio version of the Gibson is a more sophisticated chambered guitar also. but are much more expensive. They are based on Kirk Sand design.
Not much of a different, really does not worth the price gap! I have a multiac encore and with some fine tuning of the PA system it sounds amazingly beautiful
tal frenkel i have a question here.. apart from the features like fishman setup and all.. are the basic tonal character of godin encore and godin duet ambience same? or different? in which aspect?
Obviously the Godin sounds a little better here, but you really have to hear their Grand Concert Duet Ambiance model with the Fishman Aura system built-in. Just unbelievable sounding.

Just getting to see this not impressed with either sounding this demo perhaps the interface or amp used for the recording I always wanted the Gibson but never found one. Got the Godin and it is good but I agree with the comment about trying all settings and never getting great sound. Also it would be nice to have a digital memory which might allow one to save the best settings. Since this comparison is a few years old it would be nice to compare the current stock such as The cordobas, the new Yamaha NTX with the new Godin e.g ambience and if possible to get a thin line Kirk Sand John Knowles custom. Also compare action and playability along with tone
I have the Godin and it is a very 'clunky' sounding nylon string..cant get a smooth tone from any of the 50,000 settings. If someone has the gibson id trade in a second..mine is mint....
