10 out of 10 for this review. You are the king of reviewers. I'm sure a lot of people are looking for a small size flash with HSS. Is there a way to determine how much GN is reduced when a flash is used in HSS mode at high shutter speeds, say 1/1000?
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 3 года назад
Ha I wish I were king but I do try to show as much as I can and not waffle too much! HSS you are losing about 2.5 stops loss at best and considerably more when the shutter speeds increase to much faster ones ie 1/2000, 1/4000s etc. A compact flash like this is handy I use it a lot and I am glad you have HSS, however the larger normal sized Godox are better suited for longer distances, as they have a higher power output. The other option is to use an ND filter if you are shooting at fast apertures. This small flash is handy for mirrorless or if you want to travel light, the larger ones are maybe a bit bulky for non DSLR users. So if you are taking a portrait of someone in HSS this will do if they are not too far away, group shots def not going to have enough output for that. Hope that helps a bit

@@850Tech It's fine for most uses, but if you are bouncing off a high ceiling then the larger flash is better of course. Or of you use HSS a lot outside, this has it but the power drop is a lot. Very nice video Mr. Baz! I am new to flashes and have two, rather naive I guess, questions... I've searched the net but... I use an Olympus and a Sony camera. Have the Godox 350o (Olympus/Pan version) flash. I'm trying to use the godox flash as an optical slave, master being the -tiny- Oly flash on the camera (Em1).... Don't if this is feasable at all, as I said, I'm new to this . Aslo, I intend to buy one for my Sony A7s, and use, if possible, the two as master/slave, for off camera HHS etc. I guess this might be possible, since the one will sit on the camera and the slave will trigger, at least, wirelessly... Ok.. this was a looong "comment-question"... If you find the time.... Again, congrats on your nice video man!
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews Год назад
You can use the Godox across various camera brands so a Sony one and Olympus one can work together. You can use HSS use manual mode and connect both, or you can use a simple optical slave to do this.

Any preference for v350 vs tt350? Also if one is planning to use this flash for outdoor travel photography when the lighting is bad (i.e. shadows on face) to brighten up 1-2 subjects in the foreground of landscape photos would you still recommend this as a fill flash? I’m used to built in flash, but my current full frame does not have one.
@MrBazReviews

The V350 is twice the price and honestly, I find the AA's fast enough for cycle times. I would go with the normal one myself. I wonder if they might update it though at some point, I might take a look if they do. It's fine for fill flash outside long as you are not shooting very fast apertures, you'll need HSS. this has it but power is much reduced

@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 5 лет назад
I think the OEM makers Canikon/Sony etc. got a real wake up call when Godox came along. For me I've sold off my OEM flashes and just use mainly the Godox ones now. The original makers were let's be honest ripping people off for what they had on offer, as you say only high end models which are expensive with the radio built in - for that price you can build an entire Godox system. Lower to mid models no radio built in. I know very few who buy the original flashes now, they are overpriced and can't compete - with only a few small advantages (weather sealing being one). Flashes don't cost much to make at all, their margins are huge on items like this (and camera grips another big offender) I think they expected the China makers to just do manual basic flashes. When they came out with TTL/Full functionality and then radio that took them a notch above them, and they've no response. Just relying on the small number of people who will only buy the original brand flashes.
@tysonator5433
@tysonator5433 5 лет назад
@@MrBazReviews Fair point actually. If I had not purchased my 580mkii & 430mkii at very good prices I would have got third party. At the time of my purchases godox were not the big in the UK and internet ordering was no were near as competitive as it is now. If I was a newby then Godox is a sound choice. So now I am looking to get Godex transmitter and triggers.
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 5 лет назад
Godox seem to be making big inroads into the pro market too, as the system integrates fully including the bigger studio/portable strobes (AD models etc.) They do have some way to go in terms of getting it 100% right, sometimes firmware bugs etc. This model the AF assist isn't great in my view, but that aside they have a lot to offer all types of users.
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 3 года назад
@Peter Alexander IMO it's not the same thing. OEM most of it is made in China/Far east anyway, you can argue it's better quality, but is the price fair? An OEM high end flash for £500 odd? Same as a battery grip the new R5/6 Canon grip is £420 the genuine one, is that a fair price? I would have to say no it's not. I've bought entire camera for less than that. Margins on OEM accessories are high, and in my view too high. You could argue the quality is higher, is it that much higher you would notice it? The last few years the camera industry has been on a huge price gouge, ramping up prices across the board - to the point I think it does make sense to look at third party offerings.

Great video --my concern is I dont even understand the lingo! or the settings . wonder if im to daft to learn , how simple are the instructions?
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews Год назад
The instructions mostly suck, because it just isn't well laid out. The terms are simple enough TTL: Through the lens metered exposure (ie auto exposure for flash) HSS/Auto FP: High speed sync, enables use of high shutter speeds. Flashes have a sync speed linked to the camera. Most cameras do 1/200s with flash, over that it won't work. Outside HSS is useful for fill in flash, and will work at speeds over that. M is manual settings no metering, you pick the output it won't adjust itself for different lighting There are a number of articles about with flash, here I am just showing the product, if it went into using a flash it would be far too long (maybe in another video). Google is your friend ;-D

5:26 you can see putting it into optical slave mode. All you need is a camera to fire it's built in flash (if possible in manual but normal will also work), and it can trigger this while it's on a stand. Otherwise if your camera doesn't have a built in flash, you can get the transmitter to attach to the camera to fire it wireless mode

Great, comprehensive review. I've just moved to Sony A7r3 from Canon where I used three Cactus V6ii with Nissin (Canon variant) for off camera, but could also use Cactus on my EM5MK2. I could buy Cactus V6iiS, but presumably will not get ttl for off camera Nissins, so wondering if I should move to Godox completely for Sony and just use Nissin/Cactus for Olympus. But that adds to weight and cost! Can you advise a more sensible option for portable multi flash setup using both cameras? Thanks in advance if you can help with this first world problem.
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 5 лет назад
I'd consider moving entirely to Godox simple reason is if you have the transmitter/flash in the camera brand it can do TTL/HSS on all other Godox units (be it Canon/Sony/Nikon/Oly etc) so it's just the hot shoe unit that does the TTL (be it a flash or transmitter). So you can get a flash for Olympus say and use it to trigger the Sony ones and it keeps the functionality, or use the Sony flashes on Godox to trigger the Olympus one off camera keeping TTL etc. To me it makes sense if you are using multiple brand cameras

Hi there, thanks for the informative video. I have the sony HVL -F20M and I want a larger flash that I might be able to use off camera, triggered by the f20m. Do you know much about using the f20 in this way? I probably want to buy a GODOX which is sony compatible, but I want to make sure they play nicely with each other. Any tips/tricks much appreciated. Cheers!
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 3 года назад
I had the Sony flash for a few years, I did a video on it, I sold it a while back. The reason was it was a bit limited really, nice and small, but you can't shoot vertical bounce with it. For wireless it works as a commander, with other Sony (or Minolta flashes). I just have Godox ones now, and one Metz I kept for use with the film cameras and manual one. It can trigger the Godox flashes, but you have no real control over the flash output (bar flash exp comp for the F20M) On the Godox units you can disable the flash if you are using it on camera as a commander, or use the other transmitters. So I didn't have a lot of use for the Sony flash, hence I sold it on, the TT350s is a lot more useful I think and versatile. I use it with the larger Godox flash, and I have the Metz/Manual one if needed too. I would personally just use the TT350s, granted it's not as small as the Sony - but a lot more flexible. So if you keep it be aware other than a basic trigger for the Godox. It was originally released as the A900 didn't have a flash built in (or A99 and they changed to the multi interface shoe), as a not too expensive way to get off camera flash. I'm not sure what cameras you have, I just think the Godox is the way to go for cost and performance. If you will use the F20M then hold onto it, if you get the TT350 I think you'll end up using that a lot more. Apart from Radio, optical off camera it has full manual control and can do HSS, the Sony flash can't do any of those things unfortunately. Hope that helps a bit

@@MrBazReviews mate that's super helpful thanks. I have an a7iii and an a6000. I'm mostly a filmmaker. I love photography, but find it much harder. I've been a bit scared of flash, but had some success a while back with a canon speedlite and my 5d iii. I sold the 5d and bought an A7iii, and a Neewer NW620 flash (Sony 'compatible' which turned out to not have TTL). This meant I actually had to learn how to use the flash manually. Which has been good! I bought the HV20M when I was in Singapore and it was cheap, and figured it would be an 'acceptable' flash for the A7iii in a pinch, plus the idea it could be a commander, for another flash... Realistically I want a decent sized all round flash that means I can take shots at night, (I also shoot a lot of scientists in horrible rooms, and poorly lit labs). I also want the potential to work in tandem with an off camera flash to get more interesting lighting. It sounds like I should sell my HV20, buy a small Godox such as the TT350s, and save up to get a larger GODOX for off camera stuff. Perhaps my neewer will work as a 'secondary unit' in the mean time with the TT350s... Do you think I'm being tight/lazy not buying a bespoke flash trigger? I really doubt I'm going to be using multiple flashes. I use the a6000 as my 2nd camera (though would like to upgrade that) I love the size of it and can always carry it, whereas the a7iii just seems too much like work for me to take on little trips in my bag. Thanks for your time, much appreciated.

@@ThomhoffmanUk If you use off camera a lot then the transmitter is worth it probably, and the cost isn't much for them. I use the Xpro and X1T, the last one is cheaper. I would just us the TT350 myself even for smaller cameras it's not too big, I didn't find I used the sony flash much when I got that, hardly at all, so for me I sold it on. That's how I'd do things TT350 is small enough to not get in the way, but got enough useful features to make it a strong all rounder. Sony should have updated that small flash but didn't now third party makers have taken over, so I would suggest just not bothering with Sony (or any other OEM maker), the price/performance is just there on the Godox I got rid of all OEM flashes a long time ago, they're way overpriced IMO and the radio flash system is the way go to. You can build an entire flash system for the price of one high end OEM flash. Hardly anyone I know buys them anymore!

@@camousoul1877 I'm not that familiar with micro 4/3 most cameras (bar Fuji which on some have an option to turn on/off the hotshoe contacts) Either way it should fire - so issue is flash or the camera, do you have another camera to try or another flash maybe borrow one? I assume the flash test fires when you press the button

Would using two of these on the same mount overpower the sun?

If you mean for fill flash if you're not too far away yes, but you'll want more power if it's say for group shots etc

M50 supports HSS so this will work with HSS (C version is Canon so right choice) Power is limited v a larger flash as I explain in the video, but it can be used for a fill in daylight/high shutter speeds

Yes they updated the firmware to get around the Canon removing pins thing! TT350C V1.7 2019/05/06 TT350 for Canon Camera 1.To solve the compatible problems of new cameras e.g.EOS R,1500D and 3000D So just update the firmware if it isn't already when you get it

@MrBazReviews 6 лет назад
Hello Pete I did use the larger Li-ion Godox they keep the same designs for AA/Li-ion you just pay a bit more for the Li-ion version. Really depends if you need the faster cycle times. I'd love to see a design which lets you use both batteries that would be useful as AA's are so common.

Hi Mr Baz.. yeah i have the larger Pixapro 580 II li-ion same as godox 860 for canon and its great can't believe how long a charge lasts. that would be great to see both battery types in one

Wish I saw this before I purchased this junk, the vendor’s website says it is compatible with the a6500, the manual says a6000 tested, the camera shows an error saying device not compatible, although it fires the flash, error keeps popping up, can interfere with trying to release the shutter as you have to OK to get past the error message, so you really never know if the flash is working correctly, it doesn’t appear to be as I do not see any difference between test photos, seems like this should be priced at around $30.00 US, not $85.00

It sounds like a faulty one I've not seen a problem on this unit, and no I don't get sponsored via Godox - I just have not had a problem so far with them. I'd just return it if there is a problem, also check the firmware

Will this flash work with a sony nex 7? I have a pixel 325 adapter shoe. Is one required? I want to use ttl features. My canon 580exii will only work in manual mode with the nex 7. The ettl, ttl, and em modes don't work with it.
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 5 лет назад
The pixel adapter is a standard one I believe you will need the multi interface adapter (Sony ADP-AMA) or equivalent to get the TTL. With the right adapter yes works perfectly I have a number of cameras with the Minolta style shoe all work fine wit this flash and the ADP-AMA. Canon will only work TTL with Canon bodies so you are manual on that one, same applies if put it on Nikon body etc. shoe is standard, the pin layouts/TTL protocols are not.

You want to get the TT350F for Fuji. You can use any of them with the trigger off camera (ie mix Fuji and Sony/Canon etc) but it's best to get the model for your brand so you can shoe mount it.
