Thanks gentlemen. I have been using an SB900, and SB800 (solo + commander) plus 4x SB600 (slaves) since time began. They have served me well with my DX and FX cameras - I'm not considering going Mirrorless.
7:55 If you set menu setting E3 to adjust background only, you can bring down the light from the outdoors while not affecting your flash exposure (ie., on the subject). Setting E3 to background only, you just use the exposure compensation dial and BOOM, you can super easily even out that high dynamic range scene. 😊
I actually replaced my sb-700 for the godox v1 but I ended up sending the godox back because the nikon was so much better exposing. This surprised me quite a bit because I thought I was buying a relatively big upgrade considering the age differences
I’ve been using Godox for a while now and noticed that the Z cameras don’t like to have the sync speed any higher then 1/200s. You’d get a curtain every now and again. Don’t use hss on a v1 as it simply very low power to use in hss. One thing I noticed in your tests is that you always got raccoon eyes with the way you used the flash. Best way to use on camera flash when inside is to actually point it behind you. A more pleasing look. I do have the V1 but prefer using the AD200 pro which isn’t that more expensive and much more powerful. It can be used off camera for a better look using the v1 as a controller transmitter. There’s also a handy cable that separates the AD200 head from its body. This way you could mount the head to your camera and put the AD200 body in your pocket. Very handy for events.
Hi. The white pop up reflector on the 700 is the game changer. Practice adjusting the distance and the flash angle to give a balance with the single flash. Lighting is basically simple . It’s easier to start with lights. Modern video pocket lights will probably do. You set your key light. That’s placement is down to your personal style. Try3ft above and to you right. The fill light diffused to your left 3ft then a back light out of shot . Then set the powers 80% key 30 % fill and backlight so you see a little bit in the hair. The classic studio lights make it effortless as they have modelling lights to get the shadows position quickly
I have a Nikon ZF , and are having trouble using TTL on my Godox set up . I have been able to update the xt2 godox transmitter and that aloes me to now use my Godox flash through TTL . But having trouble up grading the flash them self so Thankyou for the tip of taking the battery out of the flash , so will try and see if that works . Nice and informative video.
Indoors you need to nudge the Nikon speedlight +0.7 compensation in TTL-BL mode to match the Godox. In TTL-BL mode the Nikon flash is trying to balancing the outdoor light with the light on the subject that is why it is a bit darker, good video though.
Thanks Guys. I tend not to bother with my SB-800 outdoors as it's relatively big and the menus are a pain. I shot a kite festival yesterday & I can see that some of my shot's would have benefitted from a touch of fill-in flash. I will now buy an SB-700 for this job as it is smaller and stubbier and has the same easier controls of the large SB-900.
I say to go to the Nikon sb700, I have the Godox V1N, but this is the third time I've had a bulb burn, every 4 months or so I have a bulb burn. those I've heard of have Nikon or Canon flashes, I've never heard of them burning, it's the third flash I've changed after 2 Nissin k t;vra to Godox V1n
I got the Godox V1 after watching this video (thanks!) Bit of a random question, but I also got the ak-r22 diffuser and when it arrived, it was slightly pink. Is that normal? And will it affect the light coming from the flash?
Very nice and informative video, I was going to sell my Nikon SB700 and buy Godox one but now I think I will keep my SB700. I need your help though, could you please tell me how can I use SB700 with Nikon Z6ii as off camera flash? it was very simple in my Nikon D7200 as it has in built flash but I am not able to figure it out with Z6ii. Nikon dslr uses cls, which is infrared triggering! You need a (radio) transmitter and receiver to use your sb700. the godox has a built in receiver, so all you need is a Nikon transmitter
Godox makes a trigger and receiver. Mount trigger on hot shoe, mount flash on receiver. Godox X2T-N, (or Godox XPro-N). Godox X1R-N. Or yongnuo makes some also.
Another option is to buy a 2nd Nikon flash that can act as commander to control the SB700 off camera. IE, SB500, SB700, SB800, etc (SB600 wont work as a comander)
@@russandloz Sure, how long have you got? I abandoned Nikon speed lights when the sb900 kept overheating! I'm in London, so happy to show and tell you guys why thee only way is the good way!
