Worst part of it is that the ORIGINAL SCRIPT had SOOOO MUCH MORE than what this movie had, so imma make a list: -More gods where shown. -Isis appeared and delivered. -Hathor fought, albeit a little but still she fought and wasn't the queen of the west. -The underworld always had its own system where riches would get you into the afterlife, with Osiris giving a lot and Seth giving nothing to those who didn't worship him. But horus changed it by placing Thoth inside the underworld. He was actually the whole narrator too. -Anat and Astarte fought a lot more, with Anat vs Hathor and Horus(+bek/Aladin) vs Astarte. -Zaya didn't die in the end, INSTEAD all of Egypt had curses placed of them that didn't let them get out of Egypt, Bek/Aladin didn't have it (got lucky or smth?) But instead choose for Horus to help him deal with the curse or else she would be killed. -AYO HORUS NEVER HAD HIS WINGS TORN OFF. -NEPHTYS FOUGHT. -The events started with a monologue yes as seen before, BUT the movie began when Horus was already deserted (his father killed at a young age) and was coming back to take revenge on Seth, but since he was only focused on that and his own anger he managed to be influenced by Seth. -Horus also had a long time friend and teacher + some allies that where killed when trying to enter the piramid, having battled off the attackers and (spoilers) dying. So Bek was able to pass through the safes, WITH HIS OWN SKILLS omg he was actually smart why the heck did they take this out. THEY EYE THEY EYE OH MY GOD THAT SCENE WAS SO MUCH BETTER because Horus always had his ability to fly with only one eye, but he was not as strong as before with the other. In the last fight Seth is attacked by both horus and Bek, and while he tries to kill Bek, Horus goes on to grab him, moment of friendship happens and then it is revealed that Bek had stolen the eye from Seth as we see Horus with both eyes on the next scene. OHHH BOY THE PIRAMID SCENE TOO, The water I think it actually didn't work or something because Seth had been at that time and planned for Horus to come to his piramid the moment he was informed of Bek stealing the eyes of horus. What was eventually changed was that Bek had stolen a very important piece of the armor and was threatening Seth with it, but Seth promised to give him all the riches so that he could meet Zaya in the afterlife [because Zaya died in a stupid attempt of Bek stealing Hathor's bracelet which actually cured Hathor.] So they could be together. Bek was very suicidal after loosing zaya so he didn't care for anything else and after some angst that is when horus finally realized that this war didn't only affect him but others too. UGHGG WHY IS THE ORIGINAL SOOOO MUCH BETTER GO READ IT PLEASE ITS FREE ON GOOGLE

I think the reason they decided on the metal beast forms for the gods was because, ultimately, the gods of Egypt were idols of gold, silver, and stone. Maybe that was the same logic for Thoth not immediately guessing the riddle correctly--as an idol, he's not living or breathing. (Also, I guessed the answer when I saw this in theaters almost immediately, like you, not to brag) I'm also annoyed the the one reason Thoth was there was the guess the riddle in the first place, and he didn't get it. He was the epitome of "YOU HAD ONE JOB!" Thoth deserved better treatment. Boseman deserved better treatment.
@corruptangel6793
@corruptangel6793 Год назад
I feel like the riddle could have been used as a nod to the God's immortality and how the passage of time is something they never think about. Even Thoth, especially since hes always cooped up in his library, needs to take a couple moments to be like "oh, of course, how foolish of me. Obviously it's tomorrow." They'd of course have to establish that was their intent of course. Maybe have Aladin tease him about struggling with the answer afterwards and Thoth explaining why it didn't instantly come to mind.
@bye1551
@bye1551 Год назад
I really wish we had gotten a more obvious nod to how God's can't conceptualise time. To a God "tomorrow" isn't an accurate assessment of the passage of time, it's not measured in days or even years. But just having him be confused was lazy
@timschulerii57
@timschulerii57 Год назад
You know what they should had done? Go to the Sphinx first, then after trying and escape out alive, they go to Thoth and he should say, "Have you tried tomorrow?" And make the characters think that he's saying "Try the Riddle tomorrow" But what he meant was to try that as the answer to the Riddle. Then Bek or Aladdin or whatever you spell it would feel comfortable and think that's a good idea amd reply "ok, we'll answer it tomorrow," than Thoth would say "No, have you tried tomorrow as your answer?" Then Bek would say, "oh,...tomorrow." and we either let Thoth or Bek go back to the Sphinx, repeat the Riddle and say "You are tomorrow" and the Sphinx would let them pass and do the whole plan. It might sound inaccurate for the Sphinx but hey, one inaccuracy wouldn' hurt. Why the hell was I not part of the cast? That would make rhe movie even better!
@spearsage
@spearsage Год назад
But Bek did mention something along that line. That the riddle was meant for mortal, so Thoth should try thinking like mortal, in which Thoth at first responded with 'that will be the day I stopped thinking', owing to his own established characteristic in this movie. It was only by the end of that section that Thoth took that advice and gave the right answer. That said, the section of the movie was so busy and fast paced that the intent might not be as obvious.

Well as far as I know there's a pretty good reason why Seth is so willing to kill his brother and nephew. (In the myth not in the movie) In the myth Seth is born as the exact opposite of Osiris and for that disliked him. Then Seth was the fighter of Ra, his right hand in the daily fight against Apophis, but then Isis came and tricked Ra. She made a snake from dust and Ras spittle so he can't destroy it. the snake bit Ra and only Isis could heal it. He gave her his true name which she used to make her husband Osiris king. But Seth expected to be the next king. Another point is that even Seth's wife nepthys didn't really loved him and betrayed him with Osiris (and gave birth to Anubis after that) So I think I the myth he has a pretty good reason to hate his brother
@abelavich7914
@abelavich7914 7 месяцев назад
lol in what part of the video did he say he didn’t? He speaks about why and how Set did it in the actual myth. His problem was the presentation. We never see any of the hatred he has. The first scene we see him starts with him showing like he’s in good standing with his family and then immediately turns it around. That would be fine if we actually got to see that hate before that scene. Like no one is questioning why Set wanted to kill his brother like the video literally says he wanted to do it.

I had an idea on how to make the god's designs a bit more acccurate. Take Thoth, for example (Rest In Peace, Chadwick Boseman). In the mythos, his head is a bird. Why not have golden crowns with the respective animal as the focal point? So when they transform, the centerpiece of the crown becomes their head? They could be styled like Egyptian pharoah crowns, but more gilded.

I actually dont mind the decision to portray the gods in their human form. The ancient egyptians DEPICTED their gods with animal heads sometimes, but they could appear in any form (including fully human)In one of Horus childhood stories, Set pulls out a strand of Horus hair (and a fucking chunck of his head) And Shu was sneezed out of Ra's nostril. Also, the Book of the Heavenly Cow mentions that Ra has hair like lapis lazuli and golden skin. So even though he was almost always depicted with a falcon's head, the ancient Egyptians still didn't imagine Ra always that way Edit: Hair. Not eye. Set pulled out a strand of Horus' hair. I mean, he also plucked his eyes out later on but not in the myth I was referring to.
@krankarvolund7771
@krankarvolund7771 Год назад
Yeah, like all Gods, but it's not a question of can they do it, it's a question of how do we remember them.All greek gods can also transorm in animals, or take different forms, but we always represent them the same way, because that's how we remember them. Ra without a falcon head is just a regular dude, we have no way to see it's Ra. And the movie knows it, as they decided to represent all gods as taller than humans with that ridiculous effect, to differenciate them ^^' Also, I don't really understand your example, you can pulls a strand out of the eye of Horus and a chunnk of his head, even though he has a falcon head, falcons still have eyes ^^'
@kreolado5880
@kreolado5880 Год назад
@@krankarvolund7771 There is a distinction between the representation of the gods in art and how the Egyptians really imagined the gods. The egyptian gods can be shown in art as different animals, humans and objects. And as various hybrids between man, objects and animals. In the art Ra is mostly represented with a falcon head, but that does not mean that the Egyptians believed Ra IS a god with falcon head. He has the falcon head to embody his position as a sky god. Min is depicted in art with an erected penis because he was a fertility god and not because the Egyptians believed that his member was permanently erect. The goddess Mesechenet is depicted in art as a brick with a head, but the Egyptians did not believe that Mesechenet was a actuall brick with a head. In my example Horus is in a human form and wears the lock of youth (a human hair cut), which gets torn out by Set. Gods were depicted anthropomorphically to embody their characteristics. But the pictorial representation of the gods has nothing to do with how the Egyptians imagined their gods World appear in myths and their real life. If you look at the texts and hymns, the gods are never described with having actuall animal heads. They are described with human body parts and they perform human activities and are able to transform into different animals and objects. And yes in the movie looks like crap, but the gods were described as beeing very tall.
@krankarvolund7771
@krankarvolund7771 Год назад
@@kreolado5880 Yeah, but I didn't say that the human-heads was an actual representation of egyptian beliefs, I said that was what modern humans recognize and imagine when we talk about egyptian gods. Mythology evolves all the time, it's normal to adapt it to a modern public, and to a modern public, it would be more interesting to see human-head gods, that's what we expect. Ancient egyptians may believe what they want, it's been two millenias since thier religion is dead ^^
@kreolado5880
@kreolado5880 Год назад
@@krankarvolund7771 But that's one of the main reasons why the movie sucks. You can tell that the film has zero interest in mythology and has not done any in-depth research. They just used stuff that people already know from main stream media without looking at actual source material. If you make a book/film/comic about Egyptian mythology, you should also do research on the mythology and treat it with respect. Egyptian mythology is what the ancient Egyptians believed in, not what foreign people found interesting a thousand years later.

Like, imagine Iset and Thoth just blasting at Set with Egyptian Magic, Thoth clones trying to surround and overwhelm him, Sekhmet ferociously fighting him but also having little regard for who is ally and enemy. Couldve been so cool! Also, Set using sunlight on Horus shouldve already been a stupid idea cuz Horus is a God of the Sun, that would be like using a taser on Zeus! Also, Im pissed that they killed off Iset and off-screen with an undignified death. She shouldve been leading the rebellion with her sister Nephthys while also trying to get her son to get off his ass and get his throne back Also, personal opinion but I dont mind Set having a Scottish accent, due to him being a God of Foreigners. Ideas to fix the movie: 1. Make the gods look like regular humans until they unleash their true godly forms, which would look more accurate to the actual myth. 2. Instead of killing Osiris in front of everyone at the ceremony, Set waits until everyone gets drunk and then kills Osiris when he’s alone in his sleep. That way, when Horace tries to fight back, he’s too drunk to do anything. 3. Make the main character dude rich at the beginning of the movie, and have him become poor under Set’s bad economic rule. That way he can despise his own capabilities as a thief, since he knows what it’s like to live more well off, and has something to fight to get back. 4. Let Rah fight an actual big snake, and make him look not like an old man. 5. Don’t kill the girlfriend when they did, if they gonna fridge her, at least make it interesting. Have her die because she got sick and can’t afford medicine, giving the dude nothing to live for except to avenge her. 6. Have the god rebellion be a twist, so it feels more important when they find out someone really has been fighting against Set. 7. Get a better choreographer. 8. Cast black actors because why tf are these dudes white 9. Chadwick Birdsman, please, please, please 10. Get better actors 11. I have no idea how to fix the last third act, starting at the point where the guy doesn’t dump the water into the fire, it’s too dumb to change without just changing the entire ending.

Bastet: "And where were you brother when our uncle was harming, and murdering innocent humans, and ruining their lives oh I know doing nothing because you were sulking and pouting like a spoiled brat simply because you're no longer living in the life of luxury and excess getting to act like some vain, glory-seeking prissy chick." Horus: "Calling me a spoiled brat oh that's rich coming from you Bastet since you're the daughter of Ra and here you are lecturing me like you're all high and mighty." Bastet: "Excuse me Horus cause unlike you I wasn't some spoiled, prissy kitten who spent her days with her perfumes focusing only on her looks, and getting a husband day and night I was actually out in the fields healing, and protecting innocent humans from various illnesses, and threats, along with constantly protecting my father from various threats on his life including multiple times Apophis his arch-enemy during his night-time voyages through the underworld." Also Set underestimating Bastet would've been great foreshadowing to how much of a badass fighter she is like if they had Sobek in as a villainous god trying to stop them and we get a scene where Bastet tries to ask Sobek to stand down and let them past and he refuses and does what Set is doing aka underestimating her and proclaiming the water is his turf and as long as he is in the water he's undefeatable Bastet then uses the pyrokinetic half of her power-set to essentially start boiling the water with intent on cooking Sobek alive if he doesn't back down giving him the ultimatum let them pass or become a cooked crocodile his call and he relents knowing what would happen if he didn't let them pass, and during the final fight against Set Bastet does damage to her wicked uncle using her whole arsenal and abilities aka using her feline speed, and agility to do damage to Set rapid rate via her claws, and twin daggers, using smoke bombs made out of various perfume recipes to disorient Set and weaken him with other conditions, and just frying him, and freezing him with her pyrokinetic powers and cryokinetic powers even mixing the two for some fire/ice combinations.

Wouldn't it make sense to only recast half the Egyptian gods with black actors as only half of the Egyptian gods where Black and native Egyptians where and still are Black and or white and half the Egyptian god where described as being "wheat skinned"

Personally, I don't consider stories from the Bible mythology. I'm one of those people who believes that they all actually happened, whereas a myth is something that we know did not happen.
@sirnetflix7162

@@legoking6165 Technically, mythology can also mean a collection of stories. And stories can be true. So, it isn't inherently calling Christian history false or anything like that. People definitely do use it that way at times though.

The reason why they didn’t have mythically accurate gods was because they blew the god budget on Anubis.

"It's not all bad" ... agreed, it's a weird mix. Watching it expecting it to be inaccurate was an enjoyable evening. Just rent worthy at most, the family dynamics they have in the movie is nice, particularly in the fact that the Egyptian gods are expecting to be replaced in time. An Egyptian mythology movie could be fantastic, if done right of course and I'd like to see one.

I would think that, if a man were given the chance to talk to his love after she died, he would be in tears of joy and wouldn't be acting like he's been offered a discount on a cup of mildly great coffee.

I can take set being British and looking the way he is, Set could have said "Oh yeah in my travels across the desert I found this mortal warrior to the far north of here. He actually gave me a hard time but he unfortunately perished in battle. As a symbol of resect I decided to down his form" and could have set up a "Gods of Greece/Rome" or "The Celtics".
