You know what’s sad the character of Percy Jackson was actually passed on Rick’s son, his son had ADHD alongside with Dyslexia and he didn’t like to read or write in school so he didn’t do his homework but then one day his son became fascinated in Greek Mythology in his school and started learning more about the myths and even played Hades in his school play, Rick read stories about Greek mythology to his son every night before his bedtime one day Rick ran out of stories to tell so then one day Rick made his own fictional story about Percy Jackson the sea of monsters just for his son then he showed it to his seventh grade students and they loved it, Rick wanted to publish it to a editor after some time he got an editor who was interested in his books and loved it so then they fully published it back in 2006 and voila The Percy Jackson franchise was created. But hey not all hope is gone there is going to be a series out of it.

My class actually read the first Percy Jackson book as an assignment from our teacher and we loved the book and after we finished reading it we watched the movie and hated it so much we actually tried to make a Percy Jackson school play that would actually be accurate to the books

Poseidon is the god of the seas. Seas. Not lakes. Why does Percy think he can talk to Pop Pop by talking to what is basically a glorified puddle? Not to mention, in the books, the Camp was literally on the ocean. Like, it literally had a beach. Go like five hundred yards West, Percy, and maybe you can get a response.

This is like if it turned out in the 3rd Harry potter film that Sirius Black was actually trying to kill Harry all year but failed to do so because of imcompetense, and in the squeaking shack it is revealed that Sirius and Snape were great friends at school and that's why Snape was helping Sirius infiltrate Hogwarts. They then proceed to summon Voldemort in the shack, but as everybody knows Harry is brave so he manages to kill Voldemort with the elderwand which was hiding in the golden snitch. Then you thought it was over but before leaving the school for the summer holiday Harry is called into Dumbledores office, it turns out Albus is dying and he reveals to Harry that Voldemort is not dead but had these things called Horcruxes. The end

Him just saying "grab the golden fleece, just grab it. Grab it. Just grab it." Was way funnier to me than it shouldve been lol.

I will forever be salty that we don’t have a good Percy Jackson adaptation that has Nathan Fillion as Hermes and Stanley Tucci as Dionysus. Those are perfect casting choices

Can we just talk about the fact that the biggest victim of this production was the poor girl who was casted for Thalia? She was probably a big fan of the books, an up and coming young and ambitious actress, just landed a HUGE role for a HUGE franchise in a HOLLYWOOD MOVIE, had to settle for 10 total seconds of screen time knowing that she would get her time to shine in the later 3 books and possibly more… and none of that happened. I feel terrible for her

And to make matters worse Chronos didn’t appear in the fourth book for a reason because if he was fully resurrected it would be an automatic game over for the heroes. Him only possessing Luke already made him a nearly unbeatable opponent, if the titan had actually come back in his prime not even the Olympians would be able to stop him. The books made it clear that the gods needed a ton of help from other beings to defeat Chronos.

Luke in the books: one smart and scary SoB, yet still a tragic character. Luke in the movie: DUUUUUUH I reveal my plans to Percy, ride on his sea wave and let Kronos eat me!

At the end of this year's school year, my school put this movie on for the entire school in our auditorium. Every Percy Jackson fan wanted to die the entire time. I heard several groans and sighs of disappointment. We all hated the experience and we all hated the school for it.

In school we read the book the lightning thief. Then afterward we watched the movie and my teacher handed out a sheet and told us to see if we could write down as many mistakes and changes as possible. Multiple pages were filled

The thing about Dionysus is (and people always get this wrong), he is one of the younger olympians, only beaten by Hermes. If Hermes appears as in his late teens and early twenties, Dionysus is somewhere between 23-29 Edit: I know, his traditions go waaaay back, but in most Greek mythological canon, he was shown as a relatively young guy. They also keep him drunk since it’s said he would OVERTHROW OLYMPUS OSP does a really good video on it.

The "he isn't a son of Jesus" killed me more than Hollywood ruined the series.

so true story here, I never read any of the books before watching this movie when it came out and I legit thought Percy and Clarisse actually got together based on how little chemisty he had with Annabeth and how much chemistry he had with Clarisse then i found out how different the books were and I got shocked

The trident cameo on "Poseidon's sword" is a brilliant detail. It's actually a very smart reference that hints at how stupid the prop designer was.

I think I found a credible theory to why Poseidon never responded. Percy was talking to a freshwater lake, but Tyson knows that Poseidon isn't Achelous

I am extremely disappointed that you didn't point out how they claimed that the sea of monsters "wasn't in Poseidon's domain" to explain Percy being unable to use his powers, but then the water is able to heal Tyson later because he is a "son of Poseidon." So is it not in Poseidon's domain or is Poseidon really just being a dick to Percy 🤨

One thing I’m surprised that you didn’t point out is that Annabeth recognizing Ethan Nacamura, one, ruins his character being son of a minor god, two also wrecks them making a Battle of the Labyrinth sequel, and doesn’t even make sense because Annabeth never knew him until the fourth book. Wow, two books ruined out of one single line.

I still remember my Mom taking me to see this movie in the theater back in 2013. Back then, I knew nothing about the book series or greek mythology in general. No joke, back in those days, I thought Poseidon and Neptune were the merman brothers who created the city of Atlantis.

My theory for why the ending is like that is this. The studio was losing faith in the movies, and despite having agreed to make more, they didn't want to commit either. So they made the choice that regardless of the fact that some stuff was meant to be important for the sequels, everything introduced in movie 2 had to pay off in movie 2. So they had to have the Cronos, Luke, and Prophecy stuff all wrap up in movie 2, so they didn't have to commit to a third movie to explain what happens next. Which meant a third movie could never happen anyway because... Reasons. But they still wanted the audience to know that a third movie could exist, despite clearly not wanting to commit to making a third movie... Honestly, no matter how you look at it... It's stupid.

What gets me is that Luke's crossbow has a godsdamned gatling gun barrel on it, but he fires one "dramatic" shot and that's literally it. It also barely even registers when Tyson jumps in front of it, as if they couldn't be bothered to make that look cool.

I watch the Percy Jackson movies when I'm misserable so I can feel more misserable because when I'm at rock bottom the only way is up. Like when I failed an important test I watch the PJ movies to feel worse which in turn makes me feel better. That's all they do for me. They make me go "I might be a failure but at least I'm not the PJ movies"

I recently started reading thr books because of you, only on book 3 right now, but loving it so far. honestly when I pictured Clarisse, I pictured someone built like Luisa from Encanto, so I was really shocked when I saw her in the movie.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure in the book he couldn't control the water around Charybdis because she's also a child of Poseidon and Gaea and incredibly powerful. Her control was simply too strong for him to overcome at that point. I do like that those quests Grover was mentioning all sounded like references to the side books, but i think they're also all references to things that happen later on, after the second book. So ½ point.

Can we all agree that the sneaking out cliché is a horrible thing for movies like this? Also, in the books he had a good motivation, like the mythology guy said. But they changed the motivation so that makes it bad

When they made Riptide the Cursed Blade in this movie, I legit rage at the fact they not only deliberately got the fact that it was Annabeth’s dagger Luke gave her, COMPLETELY wrong, they also took a fat steaming dump on the most beautifully done and emotionally written scenes at the ending of Last Olympian.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that Chiron was framed in this book to be the one that poisoned the tree and Percy does his super clever golden drachma trick to prove his innocence. That was one of my favorite parts of the book

Took my sister to see the movie at the theater (because we had foolish hope). Yes this whole movie was dumb but during the brotherly hugging scene, I kept telling my sister "they can hug later. Get the fleece. Omg get the damn fleece."

15:44 A daughter of Atlas did NOT create Anaklusmos for Hercules. It was created by Atlas' wife Plione (not sure how to spell her name). Later she passed it down to her daughter Zoë who could hide it as her hair clip and was NOT supposed to give it to Heracles but she fell in love and did it anyway. Heracles later betrays her and doesn't return it to her. She was then disowned by Atlas for helping Heracles and that was the reason she hates men so much. Though it is unknown how Chiron got it but its story is the reason why Zoë had grudge on men and specially on Percy.

I swear when Percy looks at Tyson when he was shot I saw genuine happiness in his eyes

Hopefully the upcoming TV show will finally deliver the adaptation the fans deserve.

The return of Kronos in the books was meaningful, heart wrenching, painful, and sorrowful. Luke was carried out of the throne room by the fates themselves and Hermes was seconds too late to say goodbye to his son.

I think that Annabeth recognizing Ethan and Silena might be the thing I hate the most in this movie. Silena because her plot in the 5th book is huge, it has a massive impact on the story and is extremely compelling. Ethan because she probably shouldn't recognize him in the first place, the whole point of his character is that the minor gods and their children are completely ignored and tossed aside, even though he's the son of Nemesis he's basically just considered another Hermes kid. Having him be so easily recognizable just seems to ignore the entire point of him being treated as insignificant and forgettable.

The fact that I immediately forgot about Grover's entire existence after he was kidnapped just helped to solidify how bad this movie is.

Not to mention that for some reason they thought that suddenly turning Annabeth blonde like she should have been would actually gloss over all the other bs 10:24 Tyson be like "Dude I can *hear* you

So, I’ve read the books a while ago, but as far as I remember, there was a whole thing about not looking at the gods in their divine forms because it would kill you. In the fifth book from my memory, there is a mention that it’s even worse with Titans, as merely being in their presence while they’re in divine form would kill you. And yet Percy is standing there just fine while fighting Kronos. Accurate to the books my butt

The Chariot of Ares, at least, was a quest that Clarisse and Percy did together in a short story. Ironic, because Percy was vital to the quest succeeding.

1. Why was Kronos resurrected, he never died, zeus couldn’t even kill him so they sealed him 2. They sealed Kronos in Tartarus so how did Luke get his coffin (Probably walked right in when the hecatoncheires was working his shift at the coffee shop) 3. How did he kill Kronos when even the gods couldn’t

16:00 slight correction, Chiron DID say in the first book (Chapter 10) that the sword was a GIFT from percy's father, and that Chiron has kept it safe all those years. So there IS a connection to Poseidon, just not the connection showed in the movie

One major gripe I have with this video: Saying "There is no logic in Ba Sing Se" implies that there actually IS logic in the movie.

My only defense of this movie is: the Daughter of Ares was excited by the assault on the Camp because the writers (of the film) didn't think we understood that she is *the daughter of freaking ARES!*

You also missed the part where after saying the sea of monsters isn’t Poseidon’s domain (sea god, sea of monsters, ok then) he’s still able to use his powers while fighting Luke on the boat and to rock the ship

I feel like the aging up may be part of the reason Clarisse is so weird in this movie. In the book she had a very "Middle School Bully" kind of vibe and obviously there was more to her than that and she develops as the books progress but in the first book especially she's just kind of a bully and that's not something you can pull off when your characters are upper teenagers played by twenty-somethings and also the same age (if I recall it's implied Clarisse is older than Percy).

Poor Andrew has to suffer watching these films for us, what a legend he is.

So I saw this movie as a kid as part of a field trip. They packed a small group into a bus and took us to watch this movie. At this point id never heard of Percy Jackson. I was sat next to a kid who *really* loved the books and he spent the next hour and some odd minutes COMPLAINING. I didn’t like the movie and I love listening to people complain so I didn’t mind. He was carrying a copy of the Lightning Thief in his backpack and he gave it to me. Read the book, fell in love with the series and I never saw that kid again.

Are we going to ignore that Chiron wasnt supposed to be at the camp in the second book. He was sent away as punishment for Thalia’s tree being poisoned in the first book. Not to mention the Princess Andromeda was a cruise ship, not a large yacht. This movie also ruins a set up for The Heroes of Olympus series.

If Harry Potter was directed like Percy Jackson was: 1. They would all have been teenagers since the 1st movie. 2. Voldermort would have shown up in his own body and flesh on the second movie and Harry would have killed him and the saga ended. 3. Harry would have ended up with Hermione. 4. Harry would have been told all of the saga's secrets from day 1, he knew that Snape was actually protecting him, losing all suspense or mystery of his character and many others.

Don't forget the fact that they drank "nectar" in the movie as a beverage when in the books it was meant ONLY to heal demigods if they were injured. It would burn up their bodies if they drank too much, but no, they made it into a drink similar to a soda or something smh

I'm honestly surprised he didn't rip apart the entire fight scene with Kronos. They butchered him as badly as Hades in the first one. Kronos doesn't normally eat people, he ate his children out of paranoia over a prophecy. He's not a magma monster thing with horns he looks like a god but big, with golden eyes, and an aura that can kill any mortal or half-blood around him. How did they take such a cool character and reduce him to this generic thing. Same way as with Hades I guess.

About the Poseidon sword thing. The only other time I can think of, where Poseidon had a sword, is the game Hades that came out years later In that game the weapon was a semi sentient artifact from before time that adapted to its wielder. Which he replaced by his trident to one-up his brother Hades, who had a two-pronged spear. Which is actually pretty in character.

KINDA SPOILER ALERT: I JUST realised how important Circe's Island was because that was the first time Percy met Reyna and Hylla, destroyed the Island (therefor their home) let the pirats lose wich results into the suspision/grudge the Ramirez-Arellano sister held against Percy in the SoN🤦🏽‍♀️

If they'd done any kind of book-related set up, "You'd do it for me" would have worked, because in the book, Percy did sacrifice his social life and standing by being Tyson's friend and standing up for him against bullies. He then did the same at Camp Half-Blood, even when it strained his relationship with Annabeth and his other pre-existing friends. The books showed Percy as the ultimate Ride-Or-Die friend, and that's why Tyson was willing to go all out to protect him in return. Also, when Tyson was presumed dead following Clarisse's ship blowing up, Percy was genuinely devastated. Here, Tyson is a new acquaintance at best and has been an active hindrance at worst. There's call for Percy to feel guilty for NOT being upset that Tyson is no longer drawing attention or dropping important things at the least convenient moment, but we've seen nothing that actually sets Tyson up as being important to Percy. You know, typing that makes me realise how much this movie did both Percy and Tyson dirty. Their bond as found family before they discovered they were actual family was one of the best things about the book, and mythical creatures age slower than humans, so while Tyson does have moments of surprising insight and clarity, his simpler moments are explained by the fact that he's essentially the equivalent of a six-year-old, offset by being a Cyclops. He prayed to Poseidon, who sent him an older brother in Percy, which was a great example of Poseidon caring, but being unable to intervene directly. Poseidon knew Percy well enough to know that he would stand up for Tyson, and that Sally Jackson would go out of her way to help however she could, giving Tyson something like a family.

I can kind of understand why Poseidon wouldn't answer Percy, but would answer Tyson. Two reasons. 1) Percy is asking questions more relating to advice, something that would require Poseidon to talk to him and break Zeus's no contact law. Tyson, on the other hand, is asking for a favor that Poseidon can easily provide without direct communication. 2) He's following Zeus's law. Tyson is not a half blood. Poseidon can interact with him without breaking Zeus's law.

Is it me or did I kinda wanted them to make a 3rd movie, Not bc I liked it (Obviously) but bc I want to see where the hell they were trying to go, like I can imagine them being like: "Nico di Angelo being the next movie's villian for revenge for his father Hades and him teaming up with Luke to wake Kronos, So Percy, Thalia, and the gang team up with the Hunters to stop them." and I'll bet all of Hazel's riches that Bianca won't exist

You detailing the strange would-be ship between Percy and Clarisse in this movie is one of the most accurate and disturbing summaries of this movie. It’s the writers absolutely reworking the source material into what they think was best and perverting it into something it was never meant to be, whether the intention was to build on it or not.

Can we talk about how the movie started though??? Percy was supposed to be back home in the first place, not at camp. He meets & befriends Tyson at school. They don't want him back at camp because camp is already in danger. He's having nightmares about grover because he set up the empathy link. When they get to camp it's under attack and that's why Tyson is let in!!! Even though Annabeth doesn't trust him!!! It's just not here!!! Movie why!!!!

If I recall correctly, Percy was also a bit of a dick to Tyson in the books. He felt like the fact that his dad had kids with other people in the same time frame he was supposed to only love his mom was a betrayal. He was also looking down on monsters and seeing them as lower because his introduction to them was having to fight and effectively "kill" them to protect himself and his friends. So even though they were established as friends (I think Tyson was also homeless at the time and Percy tried to help him), it took him a while to come to terms with him as a brother. I probably haven't looked at these books in a decade though, so my expertise is limited to what came back to me when you described what the movie did wrong.

Fan theory: it could of been part of Kronos and not the full body. It would make sense that he died so easily

The production team didn't need a shovel. They took our expectations and immediately decided that Helen and Persephone were the ones to wed, and went down to the underworld where Hades still has them trapped. Probably still there.

I remember seeing this movie a few years ago thinking “Well the ending was hot garbage. The rest was at least meh.” After seeing this, I find that younger me wasn’t paying enough attention.

Wait. In the Demigod Files, Annabeth, Percy, and Silena Beauregard go after the remnants of the broken Bronze Dragon to save Beckendorf from the giant ant hill. Also, Clarisse *AND* Percy recover Ares’ stolen chariot. The Demigod Files was published after the Battle of the Labyrinth.

While I loved this video, I feel the NEED to say: this was a terrible substitute for watching this movie. Andrew kept talking over it, it was edited down to 49 minutes (including the parts where Andrew paused the movie to explain actual mythology or clips from the previous movie were shown) so large parts of the movie was omitted, there were parts where random pictures of Greek mythological characters were placed over the movie footage. Short of the long: this is CLEARLY fair use. I hope you see this RU-vid.

I absolutely hate that they took all the romantic aspects between Percy and Annabelle, I loved the cute build up they got in the books to build up their relationship, pulling them closer and closer and in the movie they just straight up destroyed that But luckily Disney is doing the show and Rick himself is a co-director and in charge of a lot of it, so it's done correctly

I'm glad they didn't make a third Nico di Angelo and Zoe Nightshade are two of my favourite characters and I'm glad they didn't have the chance to ruin them.
