She never says that its not a religiously themed show. She says its not a show made for religious people. Its a show that depicts a community of people rallying behind the teachings of an influential person and going out and living by those principals. Its base is in the Christian religion, but that's not the theme of the show. Please, before making accusations make sure you quote accurately and do not take what someone says out of context.

ty2kalamazoo That's a very fair criticism and you are right that I did misrepresent what she said. My bad. It just seemed to me that she was almost apologizing for the fact that there is a biblical basis for the show.

As stated earlier, whilst the themes and basis for the show are from Jesus's parables, the MESSAGE is not "Hey convert to Christianity if you liked what this cast was loosely retelling", it's about community which, if you really want to be religious with this, is more of Jesus's message than any of the parables. We're doing this show for community theatre right now which is very fitting. The flowers they're wearing are a symbol of community and during Beautiful City they are removed, signifying that the cast no longer needs the outward manifesto (Wicked! Stephen Schwartz=God of Playwrights) of their sense of togetherness and community, it's inside them. This is really shown through the opening because none of the cast know each other and bicker until John shows up. Then at the end they all carry Jesus's body out into the audience then out the door together to show they'll be together forever because of him and they'll spread the word.

She said that the show is not just for religious people. She did not say what you think she said. Go back and listen again. Or do you think movies such as the Ten Commandments are just for religious people?

saw it twice - just as it was in the original - many many members of the audience were brought up onto the stage during Light of the World up until Turn Back Oh Man - to dance, drink grape juice and hang out......
