Welcome to the original Kaiju universe. Gojira is a masterpiece of the genre

I'm 63 and grew up watching these "late night" movies with my Grandpa. He owned a diner that stayed open until 4:am, and I would work there every Friday and Saturday night from the time I was 10 year's old. Peeling 50 pound's of potatoes; washing dishes, then as a cook. Now I'm the same age he was when he died. To be young again! I love watching you react to these "classic's". You give the respect that I don't see in other reactor's. In general, any of them under 40 don't know anything about history, and will laugh all through a movie like "Saving Private Ryan" It's just sad....

Godzilla started as a villain but gradually became a hero in the later films, then in the 90s he became villain again and became a antihero. Then in the early 2000s he which between hero, villain and antihero. Japan wasn't the one's who dropped the H-bombs on godzilla it was the Americans testing their bombs in the Pacific. This movie was made 10 years after the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

Although the French got blamed for theirs. Oh yes... the mighty French arsenal-!! This was done supposedly because McArthur and the Americans were still the occupation force. But when the money rolled in from American theater promoters, the sell-out was a lot easier.

The wrinkled skin on Godzilla was intended to represent scars over his entire body from radiation burns

@@DerpyStudiooosno, it was originally meant to emulate crocodile skin, if it was also based off radiation burns it’s unknown, maybe, maybe not

It's more CRUSTY or SCABROUS than "wrinkled". The radiation could also account for his black color and even his freakish size.
@kevinnorwood8782
@kevinnorwood8782 8 месяцев назад
@@filmkid8221 His skin went through three designs. The first version had serpentine scales, the second version had small round bumps (the "warty" Godzilla), and the final version is the one you see in the film. The final version was dubbed the "alligator" Godzilla. So it probably was intended as emulating crocodile or alligator skin, but it HAS been written by some sources, that this skin texture was chosen to represent the burning and disfigurement Godzilla must have experienced when exposed to the radiation from the hydrogen bomb.

One thing I learn from this movie, is just because you drop depth charges on Godzilla, doesn’t mean it is over, and also bad idea to be on a ocean liner, cause Godzilla is still out there

This movie was more than just some b rated monster movie. It had a moral message, it had revolutionary effects for the time and it spawned a multimillion franchise.

Godzilla, or at least his species, is prehistoric. The old man talking about him is also a way to heighten the mystery of him and ad myth and legend, which is what they did in 2014 too.

There's a metal band from France called Gojira, named after the original name of the movie/monster before it was renamed Godzilla for the American market. That's why you hear Japanese actors pronounce it that way, because they're using the original name. Gojira comes from a combination of the Japanese translation for "gorilla" (gorira), and kujira, the Japanese word for "whale." The name is said to have been chosen to represent the size and strength of both animals The English name "Godzilla" combines "God" with "lizard". Again, "God" for the size and strength.
@robertrodriguez7087
@robertrodriguez7087 2 месяца назад
The English name is the spelling of Gojira given to the American distributors by Toho. Even now, there is no one official way to translate Japanese into English, so they just came up with their own spelling. Go-ji-ra = Go-dzi-lla The "God" part is a coincidence, and none of it has anything to do with "lizard." Making stuff up doesn't help anyone. I'm going to assume that supposed information came from somewhere else and wasn't being made up on the spot here, but regardless, it was wrong.

Dr. Serizawa burned his research data to prevent it from being used and killed Godzilla in exchange for his own life.

That the reason why they are reluctant to use the Oxygen Destroyer. It will kill all life in Tokyo Bay along with Godzilla.

There are a lot of good Godzilla movies but I still think this is the very best. And yeah, the original Godzilla dies in the first movie. All the other movies from #2 up until the series was rebooted in the 80s star a different member of Godzilla's species, who is more of a friend to humans.

The original and the best. I will always take it over any of the subsequent movies - either those silly kiddie-oriented ""Vrs"" films or some overblown post 2000 Hollywood CGI orgy.

The Heisei watch order is as follows: Godzilla (1954) The Return of Godzilla (1985) Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993) Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) The Showa movies are cheesy as hell. 14 movies of goofy fun. The Millenium movies have almost no continuity, and it's a bit jarring.

I wonder how soon will we see Godzilla Raids Again (1955)' the first sequel in the original series along with its first tie in film Rodan (1956)? If you plan on continuing with these then you got a lot of ground to cover. Just to throw out a few more tie in films there's also The Mysterians (1957), Varan The Unbelievable (1958) and Battle From Outer Space (1959). This covers all the ones from the 50's in the Toho Showa Universe, but lots more to go yet in the 60's and 70's. I enjoyed this reaction on the original Godzilla (1954) film!

They literally made the sequal the next year after. Like you think because it's such a classic, sequals would have came a while later. But nah, they waited like a few months at most.

For reference, 50,000 volt's is what a tazer will give you! It's not the volt's that kill you, it's how many amp's. In which case it only take's a few thousand's of 1 amp to kill a grown man!

In 1949, the Americanized new Japanese Constitution was approved and enacting, solidifying the new status of women as voters, business owners, etc. (After WWII's 'evacuation of young males' from the islands, women took over many businesses. This was unheard-of but considered 'necessary thus accepted' by the Japanese. The scene where Old Men are the town-hall leaders being screamed at by women in the audience with shaking fists - this was OUTRAGEOUS filming at the time (1954). But it was in effect what the population felt because Japanese propoganda was being replaced by 'real' coverage of the Japanese Old Men Leaders in WWII, particularly to China, Korea and the Philippines who obviously were no longer friendly to Japanese. These seem like small scenes in this movie but were landmark portrayals in a filmmaking culture of highest repute.
@Cbcw76

In the Americanized 1956 version with Perry Maso - er, Raymond Burr - those 'outrageous to Japanese' scenes were cut out AS IF these were simply too offensive TO Japanese leaders at that time.

the... wrong hands he is refering to is the Americans and the russians because this film came out just as the cold war was starting, and to the people of that time, they didn't know if either party would drop their payload so both sides just kept advancing and advancing... its not hard to imagine that if either party caught wind of the device it would be seized and mass produced for possible war.

Just to add as well, the reason Serizawa gave his life was so that all knowledge of how to develop the Oxygen Destroyer would die with him. This knowledge was something like an info hazard in his view, too dangerous for anyone on earth to be aware of. He considered his death to be necessary and moral, because it would kill any understanding of how to create the Oxygen Destroyer.

I see you are watching the original Japanese cut. The American cut has a whole bunch of scenes added in of an American reporter reporting the whole events of the movie as a story to his newspaper. The people who imported the film thought people would be able to identify with an American star telling the story.
