The only thing Beast and Gojira have in common is atomic monster on the loose. Yeah Tanaka watch Beast and got the idea for Gojira that hardly qualifies it as a rip off

***** And Superman is a rip-off of a flying man in tights. Is that what you want to say? Listen, if you count that as a rip-off then everything is a rip-off. Then for example Jurassic Park is a rip-off of Monster island and The Terminator is a rip-off of Mecha-Godzilla. Besides this Superman lizard looks like any other dragon type monster of that time. the only reference to Godzilla is the size, but still I know where you are coming from.

icecream is nice It's not and will never be a "piece of s**t" to me. I love this film, and I truly have legitimate, genuine reasons why. I'm sorry, and I know I shouldn't be bothered by this, but it seriously IRKS me whenever G-Fans call this film a 'piece of s**t.' I find it very derogatory. And it's been 18 years since it came out, so when I see G-Fans describing the film like this, it comes across to me as very SAD because it's like the Godzilla fan base as a whole STILL hasn't gotten over its collective disappointment over this film, EVEN in the wake of Gareth Edward's film. 😔

@@disma4191 Sorry my dude but the puppets are ridiculous even for 80's standards. I just watched the scenes again just to confirm that. Remember that movies like Alien and 2001: A Space Odysee came out years before this. I understand and respect your attachment to the movie but I personally can't get over the Godzilla puppet.

@@gargos25 yhea but the other effects look pretty good and the movies that You are conparing it with ware big americans productions Godzilla '84 was only 1 million dollar and that's the Best they can do in Japan so respect

I suspect if Spielberg had made it, the monster would've actually resembled the Japanese counterpart.

Also, Im a Godzilla fan. The 2014 movie wiped out all memory I had of the 1998 version. Better than this movie by miles.

SEspider Many of the Godzilla movies had a terrible script, but for the fans it was at least Godzilla.

I love Mazaki Tezuka's Godzilla films.

No, because Dean Devlin wrote the script after being approached to do an American Godzilla film. Then he pressured Roland Emmerich to direct. It's mentioned in this video.

I've never, ever heard that they wanted Godzilla to be fast. You are correct about the stop-motion, but I think you're adding your own ideas about the designs. Original storyboards all show him standing upright, and with less of a gut because obviously they didn't know what a man in a giant dinosaur suit would look like. And a creature the size of Godzilla moving quickly while standing upright wouldn't have worked, even in fiction.

Dr. Forrester They said it. Just not exactly how fast they originally wanted him to say. As for the storyboards, standing upright has nothing to do with him being slow. Standing upright could be fast or slow. They had to change his look once they realized they couldn't go the King Kong route. "but I think you're adding your own ideas about the designs." No I'm not. That would require lying. Something I'm 100% against.

SEspider Can you prove that Toho specifically said that? Any source, quotes, etc? Granted, Toho's original vision for Godzilla was probably that of a thinner, more streamlined creature, but as far as this movie goes the input for Zilla/GINO's design was mostly between Emmerich and the monster's designer Totopolous(the main character was named after this guy). While this monster had a decent design, it doesn't help to deviate so far from what's already established, even if it was the original vision(I think a good anology to this was how George Lucas originally envisioned the old Star Wars movies) Eh, not a big fan of this argument anyway. The debate over the creation of Zilla/GINO has always been a he said she said. "Emmerich decided to drastically change Godzilla behind Toho's back BUT WAIT Toho was supportive of the idea all along, this design was their original view of Godzilla!"

firetools Proof? I have time, nor patience, to look it up again. I remember it being mentioned in a documentary I saw. Which one? I haven't a clue. It's one of those useless facts I tend to remember for no clear reason. Sorry.

Seriously when I ask a kid what godzilla is they be like that big dinasour in the movies a few months ago. I'm like yeah I guess. I ask someone my age (14) and they be like recent movie or the dinasour like t-Rex from 1998. I'm the only one in my grade who knows what godzilla actually is

i hate this movie nowadays (liked it as a stupid 8 year old) but at least it had more godzilla than 2014 then again, it was zilla, not godzilla so that cancels out so, dogshit

Yeah i was gonna say there is no Godzilla in the 98 film XD I agree the new film could have used more Godzilla but on the other hand i think the lack of screen time made his appearances all the more memorable and impactful.

William Amaro oh i agree at least on the first viewing. I remember in the theater there was actual cheering in the last battle when he finally showed up and KICKED ASS. the second viewing was more grumbling by everyone that there wasn't enough Godzilla kicking ass.

Thanks, unfortunately I had to reduce the Siskel & Ebert clips because of complaints from my UK fans. They don't seem to like them and they don't want to hear their opinions.

Strange to hear that. I am from the UK and a huge fan of Siskel & Ebert and I have watched (multiple viewings) and read hundreds of their reviews.

What I was finding, is if the viewer disagreed with Siskel & Ebert they would get upset and tell me not to include them because they don't care about their opinions.

As did i went to see this movie like 3 times bought the toys & soundtracks lol all have to say is it was an ok movie for what it was but again didn't like why they had to kill him.

Since Zilla in that script possessed more of the original Godzilla's trademark abilities, it most likely would have pleased big-time Godzilla fans, though some, not all.

velociraptor4you Well you can't please everyone. I feel Zilla Jr. is far more deserving of the title Godzilla than his parent since he has alot o the actual one's traits such as being nearly indestructible, a fast healer, atomic breath, etc. Wonder what would happen if Zilla Jr. fought the original Godzilla?

Webshooters1 Oh, I know, you can't please everyone. I do understand why Zilla Jr. gets more love than his parent. Like I said: he possesses more of the trademark powers and abilities of the original Godzilla. If Zilla Jr. fought Godzilla…I don't know. Part of me is thinking that it wouldn't end well for Zilla Jr. after seeing the 'Zilla vs. Godzilla' scene from "Final Wars."

psgaming101 Craup I don't know, he's indestructible and has hyper healing like his inspiration. Zilla Jr. pretty much has all of the actual Godzilla's abilities except he also has the added agility and speed from his daddy. It's the best of both worlds.
