Whoa! Godzilla roars and lights up too? ....Cool. Watched a couple of your videos (including this one) and liked them a lot. Very informative. So I recently subscribed and set the notification bell. Hope to get some important tips from your videos for our future trip to Japan. Thanks for the video posting.
Thanks so much for your support, hope you enjoy the videos! Lots from Tokyo coming up next, and this year I'll be visiting Hokkaido for the first time :-)
Thank you so much for the video. Me and girlfriend are visiting Japan for the first time in a few days and have decided to stay here from your review. Cant wait
Really liked the hotel and I love the quirkiness of it as well as being a very nice place to stay . Location is what it’s all about in our opinions as we like to be where it’s happening, thanks again for showing us 👍
Put it on the Japan to-do list! There's also a godzilla statue in Tokyo, near Ginza. :-) It was so funny when I found the original one as it was so much tinier than I was expecting, but they've replaced it with a bigger one now.
I've stayed at the Gracery several times. Smallish modern rooms but very nice and quiet, and the bathroom size is excellent. A lot of Japanese hotels, especially business class, have bathrooms that are so small you can get claustrophobia. The main entrance to the hotel is actually on the other side of the building from Godzilla where there's a parking roundabout where you can catch a taxi or get dropped off, and also where the Shinjuku WE 100 yen circular bus stops. There are 2 walkways on the Godzilla side filled with restaurants that also lead to the hotel entrance where you catch the elevator.
Wow nice hotel👍 I just went to their hotel restaurant to check Godzilla head (that’s the only way to see Godzilla head without staying the hotel)😆 Lunch was only 1200 yen, all you can drink coffee and yummy Hayashi rice (hashed beef rice 🍛 ), it was so good! You guys should try it as well😁
Yay, glad you enjoyed it! That's a great price, I thought the restaurant would be more expensive than that (I had my eye on that Godzilla dessert but it was pretty pricey!)
@@cakeswithfaces Yes, if you go there in lunch time, you can have really good deal😆 As you know that it's a fancy restaurant in the fancy hotel, so it is super expensive in the dinner time though🤔
Loved it! A step above the hotels we normally pick (which are good but don't have something special about them). It was partly your recommendation that made us go for it!! :-)
I’m home and the wife is out so she will kill me if I watch this without her lol . So so needing to see this as the hotel could be one I choose 👍😀 your videos are superb and of course happy Christmas to you both
Cool hotel, I'll consider staying there when I go to see Band-Maid play live in July. It's pretty close to Kabukicho Tower, where Zepp Shinjuku concert venue is.
Aww me and my bf stayed in this hotel last November. I really liked it, but the room was a little bit small for our suitcases and all the crap we bought lol. Still love it though, especially the bathroom! :) And u can buy little Godzilla merch at reception!
Space is at such a premium that most hotels in central Tokyo are that small (unless you rich!!) ☺️ Which is a problem when there's so much stuff you want to buy!! :-)
I was thinking of staying here for my upcoming trip next month, but decided to stay at the Daiwa Roynet (bigger rooms). After seeing this though, I had no idea about that terrace. I thought the suite was closed off too.
Great choice, it's one of my fav Tokyo hotels! Yes, there's a restaurant that serves breakfast. Usually I go to the convenience store at ground level just underneath the hotel to grab something for breakfast. There are lots of places around in this area too, you're in the middle of everything!
@cakeswithfaces Last time I stayed at the Shinjuku Washington hotel a few blocks away. They have an amazing breakfast buffet at the restaurant on the 25th floor. When I'm on vacation, I like to pig out at breakfast so I don't have to eat again until dinnertime. Thanks for the reply.
I didn't ever notice it from inside, but I'm not sure if I was in my room when it went off - the roaring finishes at 8pm. :-) I stayed there again this year as I like this hotel so much!
Hi just seen your video.and where going to stay there in march are you by the rail station. And is there lots to do there thank you Chris & kitty Liverpool England.
It's a very short walk to Shinjuku Station - an ideal location! You're right in the middle of Shinjuku with so much going on - lots of places to eat and shops. Just watch out in Kabukicho, immediately around the hotel - if you're approached by touts just ignore them and keep walking. Don't let anyone convince you to go into their bar as there have been occasions when tourists have had their drinks spiked and had their cards/money stolen. It's not an unsafe area at all - it's bustling and really full of life, with lots going on even late at night. It's only the dodgy bars that are unsafe. Shinjuku Station is huge, and it's very well connected so you can get around easily. Even if you need to get to the other side of Tokyo, you can hop on the Chuo Line and it's very convenient. My favourite place to stay!
I'm from one of the cities in western Tokyo that is on the Chuo Line, JR. Full of awesome shows you are making, which I'm always enjoying so much. Your various point of views constantly have told me a bunch of new experiences :) though I'm living here xD And your accent is easy to hear for me, thank you, CakeswithFaces-san
Thank you! So glad you enjoy my videos! I find it interesting too, when I watch videos of people visiting England :-) It's fun to hear their opinions and impressions! 英語がじょうずですね!
@@cakeswithfaces @Cakes with Faces 6:17 ~, as for the humidifier, we need it (maybe essential stuff) in winter. When it gets dryer and dryer, everyone's throat becomes parched more and more, around Tokyo. One of the reasons that a lot of Japanese put on the mask is preventing from their thirsty or catching cold. Back then twenty or more years ago they should provide a kettle on a heater/stove for each room. The steam kept its moisture properly. Instead, it snows so crazily on the cities that locate Japan See side (opposite side of Tokyo). BTW, did you know the great snow walls at Tateyama in Toyama prefecture? That much snow fall causes over 20m (65 ft) height walls. Some tourist made a wonderful RU-vid show about it. The URL: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-63Ij7DeRnbw.html
@@kennaya2010 Thanks for sharing, that's interesting to know! I guess the heaters make it dryer as well. That snow wall's amazing - and it's not even very far north!
@@cakeswithfaces You're welcome,. And for the details, plz check out the Wikipedia which URL is below. ++ I guess the heaters make it dryer as well, -- you got the point . Because of the dried-up wind from the Japan Sea in winter, lots of fires are caused around Tokyo every winter. Due to so-called the roof of Japan--- high (10,00ft class) mountains, much moistured clouds from the Japan Sea are fixed over the area (including the great snow walls) every day and almost all of them are changed to heavy snowfall there. As a result, people around Tokyo should accept only chilly dried-up wind and need humidifiers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tateyama_Kurobe_Alpine_Route
No matter how hard I tried for my two week visit to go out the correct exit in Shinjuku station... I always got it wrong, and was turned around... I tried different exits, but the all went the wrong way... maybe I took the sameone, and never knew it. I never figured it out.
Haha, that's the fun of Shinjuku Station! (Busiest station in the world!!) Once we got stuck in Shibuya Station & none of the ticket gates would let us through 😂
its amazing amy,the reason I say metroplex is that is a transformer [who have their origins in japan so its appropriate] and when he transforms he becomes an entire city
Excellent, looks like a great room! I really wanted to book a room that I'd be comfortable in for a week in, looks this one being new and most rooms high up I wont' have to risk too much of a crummy view of a crummy ally or something. thanks!
It's a little pricier than hotels I'd usually book but it was definitely better too! All the hotels I've stayed in in Japan have been clean and decent, but the rooms tend to be very small. It's the best view I've had of Tokyo from a room - it made it hard to leave at the end of my trip! :-)
Thanks for the great video! I will also stay in that hotel. OT: You said you came from Osaka with luggage. So I guess you took the subway from Tokyo Station to Shinjuku Station. If yes, is it possible to travel with big luggage (like hold baggage) on the Tokyo subway? Thank you so much!
I loved this hotel! Good choice :-) I carried my luggage with me. You can take luggage on the Tokyo subway. There isn't an area for suitcases, so you have to just keep it with you, or stand with it in the standing area. It can be difficult, as some stations are large and involve a lot of walking, so try and avoid busy times if you can. If you don't want to carry your luggage, there's a service called Takkyubin for sending your luggage two your next hotel: www.kanpai-japan.com/travel-guide/takkyubin-sending-luggage
Only for the special Godzilla room (I could never stay there at that price!!). 😝 Standard rooms were about £130 a night (more than I'd usually spend but it was worth it!).
I stayed there in 2015, in a single room. It was certainly "cosy", but wasn't all that much more expensive than other hotels in the area. It's odd. Japan has a reputation for being really expensive, but it's certainly cheaper than the USA, which doesn't have that reputation. I paid £288 for 4 nights, although the exchange rate was better then.
Absolutely - here in the UK, Japan's thought of as expensive too, but it's actually cheaper than here too. You must have really felt the difference in hotel room size compared to the US!!
@@cakeswithfaces I'm from England, but I've been to both places a few times, and the rates for US hotels have always been far higher. OK, I got about 200 yen to the £ each time I went, but even allowing for that, the USA was much more expensive. The worst thing with Japanese hotels is that sometimes they strictly adhere to published check-in times.
Any chance you could give us your room number or which style of room this is? Just so we could maybe request that awesome view if we decide to book! :D
I don’t remember the room number but it was a standard double room. Not sure what the views are like round the other side but as the hotel’s above the cinema you’ll be quite high up so there’s a good chance of a view!
I will be staying at this hotel when my son and I go to Tokyo this summer! Is there a tram/tube from the airport to the hotel? Do you need to buy passes? Also how much spending money do you suggest taking? I have never been but I am soo excited to go!!!!
You'll love it! Perfect location and a lovely room - plus Godzilla! I'd recommend getting the train from the airport. The route depends on whether you're arriving at Narita or Haneda. The train system in Japan is excellent. You'll need to get to Shinjuku Station - which is the actually the busiest station in the world. It's huge! But just keep calm, follow the signs and you'll be fine. (Everyone gets lost in there at least once but the signs are in English!) From there it's just a short walk to the hotel. You might find my Japlanning videos helpful - they cover things like money and getting around. They're all in a playlist here: ru-vid.com/group/PL-YXkErUfa4mVX6YOhO0lNQgBndxjOFBV
@@sianna3214 You'll love it! Haneda's closer to the city so that's good news for you! From Haneda, take the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa Station, then change to the JR Yamanote line which will take you to Shinjuku.
@@cakeswithfaces THANK YOU!!!! It puts my mind at ease knowing a few key things :-) Soo excited for this trip!!! You have made me feel more confident in going to Japan! Thank you soo much!!!!
Nice video always makes me laugh at the size of the rooms in Tokyo 😂 there small compared to the Uk Americans must be crying 😭 we staying in Shinjuku in January so will pop past and get a pic of Godzilla 😝🇬🇧🏴
@@scorpionstinger4723 It's because of the population density in Japan, and especially in Tokyo. Space is at a premium - that's why there are so many skyscrapers and so much underground too.
4:55 I believe that is Seibu-Shinjuku Station behind that red builing, not "The" Shinjuku Station. As you mentioned in 9:10, Shinjuku Station is a bit more to the south, or far left from your room window.
Yes, the location's perfect! The room size is actually pretty average for Tokyo hotel rooms in this price range - and you're right, it is strange that they didn't decide to make the room larger and the bathroom smaller. It's a lovely bathroom though!! I'd happily stay there again - I tried to reserve it again for my last trip but it was fully booked.
The posters are at the top of the lift - Can’t remember if you need your room keycard to access the lift... If you walked in confidently enough you could probably take a look around the lobby! ☺️
I think it was a pull-down blind at this one. Usually hotels in Japan have black-out curtains (I usually leave them slightly open as I'm not used to it, and to help adjust to the time zone and make sure I wake up in the morning!), so they probably are black-out but I can't say for certain.
Wish I knew which Godzilla they used for the one they put on the building. As far as I am aware the building is like 130 meters tall. None of the old Godzilla's ever reached 120meters. It looks like the 1992-1994 version, but I could be wrong on my identification of Godzilla.
It miiiight say only hotel guests can go up the life to get to the lobby, etc, which is where the bar/cafe is. But usually anyone can go to hotel restaurants, so if you're in the area it's worth a try!
Yes, it's fine for two people. Often in Japanese hotel rooms, the double is a "semi double", which is slightly smaller than a regular double bed, but the one here was fine (I stayed there again earlier this year!)
@@cakeswithfaces Thank you for that. Also have noticed several reviews mentions the area is sketchy side of town, did you feel safe in that area. We like that it is close to everything and hoping the area is at least safe. Our main concern is feeling safe to walk late at night.
@@patriciawong5270 Kabukicho is the red light district, and the "bad area" of Tokyo, if there is one. However, crime levels in Japan are very low. The only time you're likely to have any trouble is if you let touts entice you into their dodgy bars. There are cases where tourists have had their drinks spiked and their money stolen, or had huge bills to pay at the end of the night. If you ignore the touts, it's fine. Walking around the streets is perfectly safe - I stayed there again this year. There are many dodgy girls bars, etc, so you may see signs for them - it's not dangerous, just maybe not a "family" area. Here's a video I made about the subject - it's a few years old but still valid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rjUeeKoiwFY.html
I *think* it's supposed to be for hotel guests only. You could go up the lift to the lobby; you might need a hotel room key to get out onto the balcony, not 100% sure on that though.
It's a contrast to the godzilla statue near Hibiya Park - I spotted it on the map on my first trip to Japan and had to go take a look. And it was tiny - we laughed so much! They've replaced it with a larger one now 😂
It’s funny before we moved here, we were going to stay there, but we decided to stay were we always stay in the same area but in chrome 4 at hotel mystays nish shinjuku. And TBH I am glad we decided not to stay, I thought the area was dirty, too busy, expensive for food and full of beggars and street hawkers. Our room was more or the less the same for a third of the price. I ended up having a panic attack and wanting to leave which was a shame as I wanted to see the hotel up close. So the location of the place is not for everyone
Ah I don't know the 4chome area that well! Kabukicho is certainly busy and in the middle of everything, but thank goodness it was very quiet in our room!
Cakes with Faces it’s weird as we have just bought a place in chrome 4 near the hotel. Not cheap, but we know the area really well. Plus I like the fact that there is security on every night. If I had stayed in the gracery the first time, I think I would have not wanted to come back tothat area ever again, plus my friend got drugged and taken for a right mug at one of the hostess bars in that area.
@@dottieland7061 Oh no, sorry to hear that. I've heard similar things happen to other people when they've gone into bars - it's safe walking around the streets, but definitely ignore the touts. All the stories I've heard have been when people have been taken inside bars, so best to stick to the streets and only go in places you know are safe. Hope it works out living there!
@@cakeswithfaces when we stayed was a lot cheaper it only been open 6 months. back to Japan for my second trip this may so excited your channel is so helpful thank you :)
It's safe if you're just walking around the streets, there are definitely dodgy establishments though - I don't know what goes on behind closed doors (and probably don't want to know).
