Threading the human element throughout a Sci-Fi film helps the audience engage with the film even more. Of course, the characters must be likeable and relatable. This film does that, very well. This film runs the gamut of emotions -- from sheer terror (Godzilla's rampage) to courage (the pilot and naval personnel) to compassion (the adults towards the little child). I've spent a lot of time (and money) watching Kaiju films, but this one stands heads and shoulders above the rest. Hopefully, "Godzilla Minus One" earns an Academy Award -- at least for special effects. Many thanks, Toho studios and Wakizashi's Teahouse.

@@WakizashisTeahouse You're welcome. Films such as "The Thing from Another World," "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "Forbidden Planet," "The Planet of the Apes" (1968) and "Alien," all had interesting characters which helped those films move along very effectively. Human interaction during times of crisis is always crucial for any story -- be they the subject of romance, war or dealing with monsters. It's who we are. Ray Bradbury alluded to that same line of thought in many of his stories. Cheers -- W

I am a sucker for happy endings, so I was pleased with how they ended it. I saw it in IMAX, and when the film ended, no one budged from their seats, and just sat there taking in the music of the credits as well. I can say lots of tears were shed in the theatre from my quick glance at the end.

Godzilla has always had a regeneration factor. This ability was established in Godzilla vs Biollante. Because his cells are independent and that’s how Biollante grew as well. And Godzilla 2000 even expanded on how fast he can regenerate and how the cells work individually. Later incarnations took different liberties. But Godzilla has always had a regeneration factor. How fast and how effecy he regenerates, depends heavily on the incarnation or how much radiation his body has. Higher energy = faster regeneration. But that rule usually applies to Heisei and G2000. But yeah, if his remains are regenerating that fast, then that means he isn’t technically dead and is regenerating back to full body. Which also means, this Godzilla cannot truly die no matter how hard you blow him up. As long as a piece of him remains, he will regenerate.

Basically GMK Godzilla had a wound on his neck and when he tried to use his Atomic breath it blasted out of his neck wound and all the built up atomic energy exploded inside him and all that was left of GMK Godzilla was his still beating heart on the ocean floor.

Explosive decompression ... REALLY? An organism that is MASSIVE, has the ability to fire out an Atomic Energy "breath" weapon, and can dive deep intoi the ocean is going to be bothered by Explosive decompression? It's an interesting concept, but such a creature is not built around an ordinary earthly physiology, or biological framework. It's skin tissues must bave the density of something akin to reinforced steel, yet has the flexibility to bend and flex like kevlar, only stronger. In order to circulate it's body's support fluids from feet to head, it's heart has to have the power of a nuclear powered turbine generator, never mind the complexity of it's circulatory system. Don't even get me started on the power of it's lungs and muscles; the entire collection powered by an organic equivalent of a huge nuclear reactor. Consider that before Godzilla launches it's nuclear breath enery beam, it's body must project massive cooling spines to absorb and disperse massive amounts of radioactive HEAT. And we are suppose to belkieve that something as mundane as Explosive Decompression is enough to stun, let alone kill it? ... Well why not... it's a Godzilla movie, yes? I won't overthink things. BTW, this movie seems to take inspiration from two other movies at least. The hero's kamikaze dive into Godzilla mouth before it can unleash it's breath weapon is akin to the climactic moment in Independence Day. and the after credits scene of Godzilla's remain slowly but surely regenerating is akin to another monster flic where the monster loses a leg before it is destroyed, and the severed limb sinks into the ocean where it starts to regenerate. Unfortunately, i casn't remember the name of the movie; it was something like Reptilicus or something like that.

Just got a chance to watch this movie with my wife in Australia last night. It was an advanced screening here where actual date starts from Dec 1st. Enjoyed the whole movie. I'm not a real fan of Godzilla so didn't watch much of the previous ones. Didn't watch Shin Godzilla though so what I might say may be already obvious. From watching minus1, I kind of felt like in that whole story, what really happened was Godzilla was never really there... As a person that went through wartime and the trauma that remains, Godzilla was probably a hallucination/ illusion that he sees or symbolize. To me "Godzilla" was just a nuclear weapon from the enemy during that wartime. Due to its mass destruction to the country that made Kamiki Ryunosuke (can't remember his name in the movie) perceived it as a monster which is Godzilla. The whole story may just be a war story that Ryunosuke sees that weapon as Godzilla and to make this movie into Godzilla series. Watch with my wife and she was surprised with Godzilla's regeneration. Took me by surprise as well but then realized that probably because he is Godzilla and the reason there were so many Godzilla series is then no surprise. Since he can also charge the blue beams on his back and shoot out the Blue rays from his mouth as well. From the Tokyo scene to the end, I thought maybe Noriko still alive. Then thought if she's still alive would be too fairy tale storyline. After that, have a looked at Godzilla himself and thought, even he himself is a cheating miracle so anything can happened, Noriko probably arrived somewhere. At final scene, thought Kamiki will eventually died while Noriko becomes arrive and carry on the "future" that was mentioned in the movie. That scene before the final part, I knew Tachibana probably did something to the plane and made that one have ejector while lying to Kamiki that if bomb detonator(until final scene to realized that Tachibana eventually told Kamiki that there was ejector already.) I also had in mind that either Kamiki would not eject himself and decide to just die together with Godzilla since Noriko is no longer there as well(from what he knows) or he did actually try to eject but it's stuck not pushing him out. Anyway end up with tears more than my wife.😅 One last thing. Just a curious question to ask you. When Kamiki Ryunosuke had a look at a photograph where there was a soldier and a little girl next to the person, was that little girl Akiko in the photo? Or was it not her as in storyline, but the girl use in the photo is the same girl who acted as Akiko in the movie?

Thanks for your comment. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it too. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on what Godzilla represented to main character Koichi (Ryunosuke Kamiki). In this movie Godzilla can be seen as many things and I'm sure different viewers interpret him in different ways. The deadly and destructive power of atomic weapons manifested in a physical form or a vengeful godlike being punishing the human race. I don't know who the girl was in that photo. I guess she was the daughter of one of the men who died on the island at the start of the movie. Koichi was carrying the family photos of all the men who died there as a form of penance for surviving. By the way, did you notice the strange colour of the bruise on Noriko's neck at the end? I've heard theories that she may have been somehow infected by Godzilla during his attack on Ginza, Tokyo, which is why she survived...
@shok.5325
@shok.5325 10 месяцев назад
@@WakizashisTeahouse Thank you for your reply as well. No I did not notice the neck bruise of Noriko as that scene was too emotional for me for what was happening. 😅 I saw one of the comment from someone on your channel that mentioned about the neck bruise and how she survived. Infact there are some of these topics mentioned in Japanese youtubes and websites as well. Apart from Noriko’s neck, there are also many other minor details to the movie especially on Godzilla himself that leads to many other keypoints. I’m trying to go through those interesting details and might as well watch the movie again to recognize those. With that theory of how Noriko survived, would be interesting also if the ending instead turn out as Koichi eventually crash the plane without ejecting and simply just died from suicide. However, with the cell of Godzilla inhibit to his body(just like Noriko’s theory), he somehow came back and survived.

Interesting, sounds good, but also not, in part. - There's no origin story, Big G is just there!? 🤔 - Right after WW2, the Japanese military has still weapons (they had to give them all up, if I remember right) & no US troops stationed there? What's going on here? 🤨 - Might be wrong here, but why use the end of WW2 & then change the situation, without using it's potential? The end sounds weird as well. Now, I'm not saying it's bad, haven't watched it, I will buy the BR 1st day it's out, but it does sound strange. Thinking about it, if there will be sequels, maybe it's like the "Half Century War" comic, as in it spans several contacts over many years, presenting different wars. Whatever worldbuilding & storytelling, it could, and should, happen there.

The plot of the film is that the U.S. used Russia as an excuse to force Godzilla into Japan, even though there was no army in Japan immediately after the war ended. The director of this film has made several WWII and postwar films in the past, so the historical background and weaponry settings are fairly well made. A story line in which the U.S. Occupation Forces, known as the U.S. Empire, and the returning Japanese soldiers, the main characters in this film, unite to fight to defeat Godzilla does not seem realistic. The burnt ruins of Tokyo at the beginning of the film are the result of an attack by the United States. If the Americans were the main characters, the Pacific Fleet might have played a role.
@WakizashisTeahouse
@WakizashisTeahouse 10 месяцев назад
@@mintian6304 That's not the plot I saw. The U.S. used their strained relationship with the USSR as an excuse not to help Japan fight Godzilla. The US testing the atomic bomb in the Pacific caused Godzilla to mutate and increase in size. Japan was the closest country.

@@WakizashisTeahouse well despite all the warnings and recommendations from other scientists U.S.A. used the bombs direct to the cities because they said to have invested already too much money to stop. The main idea from other experts was to destroy the Fuji 🗻 mountain to show the power of the nuclear weapons to the Japanese monarchy but U.S.A. wanted to experiment with real humans the effects of nuclear adiation. U.S.A. took the survivors pretending to help (because the hospitals were destroyed) but they only did a documented observation for many years ot observe the critical states before their end. Also the information about what happened was censored in Japan. They took even the control of the media to hide some key words and decide what the Japanese people can know or not. So the atrocities of the nuclear nukes lasted many decades and you find it perfect for your weapon development department. If you have time you can find that info even in RU-vid.

What attracted me to the 1954 Godzilla films was the way they showed us the slow and gradual destruction of a city by a giant monster and the horror that looms over us, from which there is no escape. Unfortunately, none of the Godzilla films since the first film have approached the depths of such horror. What I want to see is not an emotional human drama, but a destruction movie in which Godzilla is the main character.

Which Godzilla movies do you like the most after the original GOJIRA (1954)?

@@WakizashisTeahouse I fell in love with the first one at first sight, so unfortunately all the others seem to be bad and I can't appreciate them. Actually, I have not seen this film yet even though I live in Japan. If I see this film in the theater, I may change my mind.

Sorry you wasted your time. It seem rather pointless to introduce themes of loss and regret only to just toss them out at the end.

The ending you described is very similar to how godzilla Mothra and king gidhora ended.
