A shame they only showed one of his ancestors skeletons in KOTM, I was hoping to see him as a surprise entry in Godzilla vs Kong. Maybe next phase since they got a lot of Kaiju to work with
@@cybergameextreme4463 They didn’t fight because of that, it’s because Godzilla and Anguirus is like a dog and a cat relationship, they are just natural enemies
One of the things I love the most about this fight in Godzilla history, and why I love this movie in general, is because of how ferocious it is. Two warring monsters, clawing and biting at each other with the intent to kill. In all later movies the fights were far more duelistic and reminiscent of pro wrestling... this is just two animals tearing into each other. And that music that begins at 3:20...dark, low tone, scary and slow compared to how ferocious the fight is. Love it.
King of the Monsters 2019 had some of that raw animalism in it's fights...Godzilla even bites off one of King Ghidorah's heads....and Mothra and Rodan snap and claw at each other quite a bit. But yeah, this fight does remind me a bit of lions, wolves or gorillas going at it in a battle for territorial dominance
The fight scenes between Godzilla & Angurius really makes this movie enjoyable, because the story is rather weak. One can tell that they rushed the production after Gojira came out. And it IS one of the BEST fight scenes in the franchise.👍
Apparently, the director was really pissed when he saw the footage. He instructed to camera operator to run it in slow-motion, so the monsters would appear huge and heavy. He misinterpreted the instructions and ran it in fast-motion instead, leading it to look... well, kinda silly, like a Benny Hill sketch. They didn't have the time or money to do it again, so they left it in.
This fight was more savage than it looks like. If you pay attention and look closely, you'll see blood on their necks. Sadly, it's almost invisible in black and white.
The attention to detail in this movie is vastly underrated. 1:05 Godzilla sprays Anguirus with his atomic blast; whatever doesn't directly hit Anguirus blows up everything in the background.
The first two Godzilla’s atomic breath was more like a firey breath than a beam like atomic breath like the rest of the Godzilla atomic breath. (Unlike Shin Godzilla’s 2 Atomic breath, Zilla jr, and 2014 Godzilla.
It really does legitimately help build the tension by the fact that you barely hear any music at all for the first 4 minutes, and when it does fully come in, it sounds more like something from an old Resident Evil game than a Godzilla score.
I loved this Anguirus. He’s a little brawler and shrugs off several of G’s attacks. Took no shit, and came back for more with biting and clawing. Such a great fight!
What I always wondered is why didn't toho return to this animalistic style of fighting? The rest of the Showa series did pro wrestling fighting and the Hesei series went beam wars.
Based on some potentially canon theories, godzilla fought anguirus in the monsterverse, where angurius was fatally injured and went dormant to heal. As he was healing, the area he was in flooded, drowning him. This area was the ruins of Godzilla’s palace
Fun fact: The Anguirus suit was Emerald Green, and the carapace was 2 pieces as seen in this fight for a few seconds, though later in filming, they glued it together and made it one piece so it doesn’t fly everywhere.
The carapace was suppose to have been an attack that Anguirus could of use but for practical reasons, the carapace was too much of a hassle to work with, so it was glued together near the end of production.
I find it odd that these two start out as enemies considering that they become allies in later movies! Add to the fact that their fight takes place in Osaka makes this fight scene rather iconic and unforgettable considering that this was in the first Godzilla movie where he fights another monster.
So here's the thing, while they were filming these scenes, one of the camera men accidentally recorded it in fast motion, but the director loved it so much that they used it for shots throughout the movie.
Given that Godzilla Minus One was a modern retelling of the Original Godzilla I wonder if it’s sequel (cause it’s definitely getting one) will be a modern retelling of Godzilla Raids Again, I would LOVE to see what the Minus One team would do with Anguirus!
The lack of any music throughout most of the video, and the quiet, dark score near the end just make this scene so unnerving and eerie. It’s pretty cool, honestly.
3:14 Godzilla: One minute please, help me destroy this factory, I will kick it, you crush it. 3:27 Anguirus: Done, are you ready? 3:30 Godzilla: hell yeah, let's go!!!
I saw the first 3 Godzilla movies in order, so to me, as a kid, this was a huge step up from the first one and the first taste of Godzilla fighting other monsters. Nothing but good memories of this movie and I think it still holds up as an adult. It feels very much like a 1940/50's sci fi monster movie, which is great
When Anguirus had also made appearances for a few later films (Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla), I had often wondered how he and Godzilla had became friends and allies.
@@orsenjoshlazarus6404 that was In 2005 according to monster apocalypse (the year that my older brother was born). In the novel, anguirus and rodan both appeared in Siberia and Paektu mountain and converged in Beijing before being killed by the bio weapon Hedorah (I don’t know how they unleashed Hedorah but either through shooting a missile containing the bio weapon at rodan and anguirus or releasing a deadly mist of the bio weapon). After that, Hedorah went berserk and formed into a giant reptilian creature that destroyed the rest of Beijing and Tiajinn before disappearing (I think Hedorah either died of starvation without pollutants or the army killed it the same way as the movie). Dongbei was exposed of the Hedorah and went in quarantine. The United Earth tried to remake Hedorah (as if they didn’t learn their lesson at all), but the man who discovered Hedorah, feeling guilty for releasing such a deadly monster, sabotaged the attempt and was arrested, trialed, and executed for a “crime against humanity”.
The scene where Anguirus is glaring at Godzilla from street level was so intimidating. Such a violent fight and lived the speed up time. Whatch big cats fight sometime. They are not slow at all. Favorite character on STE and multiple G Fest champ with this bad boy.
I kinda miss the old nostalgia model buildings to be destroyed like Earthquake 1974 movie. The golden era of destruction in motion picture times. GREAT CLIP!
I'm sitting here playing with a 3 inch bi-pedal vinyl Anguirus figure which is green, next to a 4 inch King Ghidorah, a larval Mothra and a 3 inch vinyl Rodan, having a ball!! Anguirus is absolutely awesome standing upright on two feet!!
Love this movie more than the original. The scenes of destruction and the monsters battling each other have an eerie feeling throughout. The lack of strong, loud music greatly adds to the atmosphere. Looking forward to getting this on Blu-ray.
I was always annoyed as a kid that Angurius was made into a Godzilla’s puppy dog sidekick when he was one of the few monsters to last so long in a straight up tooth and claw fight. He even took atomic breath to the face and reacted like it was a spray bottle lol
Anguirus suffered from being the only OG Toho monster to not get a movie based around himself. Rodan, mothra, Ghidorah, even varan and ebirah all had movies based on themselves to increase marketability. Even the most Anguirus centric film in the franchise is called “Godzilla Raids Again”. There is no mention of his name anywhere in the title and he’s defeated at the literal midpoint of the film. If this film had been “Godzilla vs Anguirus” or “Anguirus the Fierce Dragon” and had the climax of the film be Godzilla and Anguirus fight to the death, I think his legacy would be much stronger.
3:15. I love how he looks around, either to perceive his surroundings for anything to give him an advantage, or to say “y’all see this bozo tryna put up with me?”
Anguirus doesn't get enough credit. If his fight here with Godzilla wasn't so good, there may have only been 2 Godzilla films, not 38. There may have only been 2 years of Godzilla films, not 70.
I didn't know that this movie existed until I saw it on ScFi on the Memorial Day weekend marathon in 97. The fight scenes are some of the best from the Showa period. The rest if the movie is a bit weak. One can tell it was rushed into production. Still a good movie .
If this film wasn't in B&W, fight would have been the most bloodiest fight in godzillas history it's really hard to see, but there's shit ton of blood bleeding out of anguirus neck and even on godzilla body scratches bites marks and slashes on him. I like how godzilla's portrait in this movie he's more animalistic so is anguirus to feels like I'm watch to warring monsters tear onto Each other
The battle between the two, the film is fast-forwarding, but that is fast-forwarding to cover the shooting mistakes. However, that adds power to the battle.
Even if the fighting isn’t the wrestling type fighting in movies after this, I still kind of find it kind of funny with how a few shots are speeded a bit
I know that you're supposed to see Anguirus's skeleton in Godzilla King of the Monsters '19 but when are they gonna show a live one in the Monsterverse?
Never know, perhaps Dr. Serizawa's nuke that he used to power-up Godzilla inadvertently passed excess radiation into Anguirus's bones and brought it back to life. Or simpler, there's more Anguirus. Godzilla apparently isn't the only of his kind, so chances are, there's another Anguirus.
@@animatedink2529 Probably the second. The Godzilla series after 1975 were campy, but not at Showa Era Levels, so I highly doubt the bomb brought kaijus from the death
