The moral is that he knew exactly the dollar he spent on vices and not on the basic needs 😂😂😂

At least he was smart and saved 32% of his earnings

He's not exactly that smart with his money. First, his mortgage is 300k. That's 25k a month. If you use a mortgage calculator, that comes out to purchasing a 5 million USD home. Not particularly smart, since NYC isn't exactly a place for people to settle down. He could have rented an apartment for 5k in downtown Manhattan (especially back with 2008 prices) and saved 240k. Second, his eating expenses are extraordinary. 75k over a span of 365 days comes out to 208 USD per day. Even for NYC, 200 for a single person is a very, very expensive meal. You could buy massive meals from the halal trucks or at Chinese restaurants for a fraction of the price. You could eat like a king for just 50 USD per day. Third, is he really spending 150k every single year on a car? What's he buying, an Aston Martin? And I've been to NYC. You're walking everywhere. Especially since we've previously mentioned him living in downtown Manhattan. Fourth, his clothes. OK I get that salespeople do need really expensive clothes. Specifically, I've noticed they often tailor their clothing so they fit really well, and they have to do it often to accommodate their body changing. But 50k a year? Let's give him a pass on this. The hookers, booze, and dancers is certainly an expense he can cut down on. -- From my plan above, from his 2.5 million earnings: a) subtract 50% from taxes. 1,250,000 USD remaining b) subtract 60k from rent. 1,190,000 USD remaining c) subtract 50 * 365 = 18250 USD for eating. Let's round this up to 20k. 1,170,000 USD remaining d) send 150k as his filial duty - let's bump this up to 170k. 1,000,000 USD remaining e) 401k matching. A 5% match is fairly decent and common for upper-class jobs. That's 5% of 2.5 million = 125k. 875,000 USD remaining. f) health insurance. An average PPO (the most expensive plan type) costs 576 USD per month. Let's bump this all the way up to 1000 USD per month = 12,000. 863,000 USD remaining. He could have easily saved up double his amount to 800,000 per year. Retire at 50 and live like an emperor in Florida.

Most of brokers like him, take their clients to dinner and have a talk on negotiations. Additional on personal spending, that number is pretty accurate.

Claim most of it back? Is he talking strictly a VAT Return or am I missing something because that’s only 20% return on the £75,000 he’s taking about. He can get £15,000 back that way
