It’s really hard to notice that tho, I personally think the best thing they could have done is for gohan to realise after trunks decided to not ask him For help, gohan feels pathetic and lost so he decides to train and it’s shown off screen

Well no, people act like he regained all his power in that one training session because he goes from forgetting/ignoring his ultimate form to matching SSB in that one training session. Yeah he trained on and off but at his Z power level training solo really couldn't do much if we're sticking to established scaling.

Last time ssj gohan appeared he got one shot by first form frieza while base goku able to handle final form frieza.

It wasn't fan backlash that caused Gohan to take a backseat, Toriyama didn't think he'd be a good fit as the main character and he isn't wrong. Gohan isn't a fighting freak like the typical Saiyan, so he'd slack off and put the planet in danger as a result. If he'd just kept training after Cell, Dabura wouldn't have been a challenge and he'd probably have even been able to beat Buu without needing to go Ultimate.

It requires focus. You have to focus on a targets ki to sense it properly. His head wasn't in the game. Goku didn't sense Frieza after the spirit bomb hit. And I don't think anyone believes that Goku slacked on his training before Namek.

@@Celtic1020 Ki sensing isn't a completely active ability. When Mecha Freeza and King Cold were heading to (or arrived on) Earth, the Dragon Team could sense them, even though most of them weren't on guard. I'm sure there are a lot more examples of this. I find it very hard to believe that Gohan needed to raise his guard in order to feel the energies of the two people right in front of him when there was no one else around in miles.

well he had been getting back in shape for about a yr (RoF to Zen Exhibition), trained for 2 days to reunlock SSJ2 and Ultimate (regaining his Buu Saga lvl), and then trained for a couple more hrs while in Ultimate to get to SSB level (which makes perfect sense since the Ultimate form unleashes his full potential which surpasses even Frieza).

I think the problem was that his training with Piccolo in TOP arc, made it seem like that had been the first time he had been training in years. Like he had been training since the end of ROF arc, yet he's still struggling against Piccolo. Not to mention, it was never brought up that he had been training the whole time sine the Frieza arc, you can't blame people for not knowing this. I know the manga mentioned it in the Black arc, but that was manga only and more people watch the show, plus it was a bonus page, ain't no one gonna remember that or probably didn't read it.

@@jasonone8726 Gohan was struggling against Piccolo because Piccolo had gotten stronger. base U6 arc Goku post SSG absorption, Whis training, Golden Frieza fight and 3 yrs in the time chamber with Vegeta still needed to turn Super Saiyan to fight Frost. Piccolo comes in and he's able to fight and restrain Frost, and even possibly eliminate him with the Special Beam Cannon, meaning Piccolo became stronger than base U6 arc Goku. Frost wasn't that fatigued either, since Vegeta still needed to turn SSJ to eliminate him. Also in the anime we see Gohan show up with Piccolo to say goodbye to Trunks, and Gohan is sweating, which implies they had been training just beforehand and flew over to say goodbye. He's also in better shape during the Saiyaman mini arc than he was in RoF.
