i went with the ipad air, because it‘s my first ipad ever. but it‘s a rental and i can totally see myself going mini in the future. the medium size was the safe bet. but if i bring a case and keyboard it‘s roughly the same weight as my macbook air m1. had the ipad for a month now and with the pencil it‘s a dream, i use it for sheet music for jazz sessions as well as lyrics for cover gigs. it‘s such an amazing device that you don‘t know you needed until you own one ❤

My iPad mini goes at least a full day on one charge. I got tired of lugging the 12.9 inch iPad Pro and a MacBook Pro everywhere. So I got the mini. No regrets

Very good, comprehensive review which accurately reflects my own mini use over the last 15 months. I use mine primarily for reading/websurfing/email, movies in bed and for displaying sheet music. The only easily handholdable iPad, and the best option for fast double-thumb typing (when vertical it's easy to hold the sides while typing).

I really like the form factor of the iPad mini as a blind content creator, I definitely prioritize computing power, memory, and mobility over screen real estate. I don't need a screen to be able to edit video in Podcasts, but what I do need is a portable and capable device. I would love to see an M3 iPad mini.

@@beardfm it's similar to my beef with the cameras on the Pro Max models of the iPhone. I don't want nor need a larger screen, but I'm forced to carry around a brick to have a better camera.

Just done this and the lack of Pro Motion isn’t as big a deal as what it’s made out, you get used to not having it. All the other benefits of the Mini outweighs the lack of Pro Motion. Of course I would love it, but doubt Apple will even introduce it in the next version. It’s just Apple being an Apple.

Got mine 2 years ago, and am glad I bought it. Use it for many things, like books, MTG life counter, music, and many more ways. There would have to be some improvements on the new one for me to buy it. May keep the old 6 generations for a couple more years.

After my Windows laptop died in early 2017 I switched to using my iPad mini 4 as my primary computer up until late 2020 when I got an 11” iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard folio and oh my goodness was it a night and day difference. I can’t imagine ever going back to such a small screen.

For computer needs the iPad Pro with keyboard is excellent. The smaller size is really better for book reading, and the weight is nice for long podcast editing sessions.

I currently have a M1 MacBook Air, 12.9 M1 iPad Pro and an iPad Mini 6. I use them all everyday for various tasks. I would love to see the Smart Connector come to the iPad Mini. That, along with an M2 chip and a better display, would make the iPad Mini a serious productivity monster! One of my favorite daily devices was the OG iPad Mini and the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio. Long live the iPad Mini!

I recently sold my iPad Pro 2018 and my iPad Air third generation and kept my iPad mini six it’s right next to me on the table by my couch. I love it. I agree with your shortcomings though the battery life isn’t great and touch ID is hit and miss not sure if I’m going to upgrade to the iPad mini seven when it comes out.

Love my iPad mini. I was so glad when they released it coming from the original iPad Pro. I find standard iPads are just too heavy for me. Not sure I’d get the new Mini because this does me fine.

I just bought the new air on marketplace just bc it was such a good deal and my first gen air died… However I can’t help but love the mini, it’s the perfect form factor, the only issues with it is iPad OS😅 hopefully we’ll get a new iPhone mini next year as well!

Dual iPad user here! 12.9 Pro 5th gen and mini 6. I find I use them both pretty much equally and I tend to have specific use cases for each, with little overlap. I use the iPad Pro 12.9” primarily for work; As a secondary device / display when working or gaming at my desk (Universal Control is great), and my device to get work done (paired with a Magic Keyboard) when away from my desk. I almost never need macOS when away and if I do it’s a TeamViewer connection away. The iPad mini 6 is primarily a consumption device; Podcasts, RU-vid etc. Things I’d do on my iPhone 15 Pro but the small screen makes uncomfortable for longer durations. That’s not to say I don’t use the mini for work. It’s my tertiary display / device at my desk (mostly used as a talking calculator, document scanner, and glanceable calendar / notification screen), it becomes my secondary device / display away from home (performing the same functions plus as a reference screen, since split screen multitasking takes up valuable display real estate on the 12.9”), and I also use it when travelling as the 12.9” is a bit too unwieldy to hold and use in the back seat of a car, especially for longer journeys (I don’t drive, I get driven).

Truly, all it needs is pro motion, high brightness mini led display (OLED never happening) and face I'd and it'll be perfect as a daily driver. I'd buy it over any other iPad hands down.

I'm a huge ipad mini fan. I love my devices really portable but in beast mode (well spec'd to handle demands), so I don't get these ridiculous statements that minis are not the way to go- for the tablets or phones. Been using my ipad mini5 for entertainment, browsing, reading and productivity tasks and never had to complain. I paired it with a bluetooth keyboard for improved productivity. I have no need to upgrade at the moment but it'll be nice to have an M-chip ipad mini to see what opportunities are available to take advantage of.

I have an iPad 6 also, and I think that most of its issues are software issues, like the way iPad OS seems to be better suited to larger screens. An OLED display might be good though.

Thunderbolt support and proper file manager like macOS. With these features, I can leave my laptop at home which is used only for copying footage from my mirrorless camera to an external drive. Actually, this makes a huge difference in travelling.

I use my iPad mini for workouts at the gym because of it cellular connection. It’s nice and small, but not too small to see without my glasses I have noticed the battery life is a bit short as well.

I’m thinking of buying a mini to replace my 2014 I pad air which is outdated now software wise , I’m just worried about the screen size for different things but I like the size for portability purposes it can fit in your jacket pocket , I wonder will they bring out a folding I pad any time soon ? Apple seems to be dragging its feet on this type of form factor !

Love your video!! My iPhone 13 mini is the greatest and I just ordered Mini 6 iPad. Do you use a Bluetooth keyboard for typing text and if so, which would you recommend. My hands are small and I would love some recommendations. Also which brand of case are you using for your Mini 6? I’ve been using my MacBook Air laptop for 10 years and no longer need it for report cards as we’ve retired from teaching. I appreciate any suggestions you have. Shelley from Canada

Hi Shelley! I use Apple’s folio case for iPad mini. It’s super thin and can fold around to act as a stand. Keyboard wise I don’t typically use one with iPad mini, but a very popular model amongst users in this: amzn.to/3Uo9yaX

To fix the button on your iPad Pro you just need to scratch the aluminum around the button with a razor blade to get it unstuck. Did it in the past and worked great

Might not 100% work, but I had an issue with my iPad Air 4 a couple months back where the power button also recessed and couldn't be pressed. I searched on the net, and what worked for me was -- taking a wet cloth and rubbing it vigorously along the power button. I was skeptical, but it worked! Might be worth the try. 😊

Been looking forward to this video since you mentioned it on the podcast 😂 I currently use an iPad mini 5 (because I wanted a mini, wanted pencil capabilities, but didn’t have the cash for the 6) and I love it! So it’s nice to see I’m not missing out on too much since your downfalls wouldn’t really matter for my use cases. But probably will still update to the 7 whenever it finally comes out… one day.

I don't have any issues with the battery on my mini. Mine can sometimes sit for a week without me using it (powered on in standby) and it always has enough battery life to do basic tasks. My iPad Air on the other hand is a battery nightmare...lol. I mainly use my mini for digital planning, reading books in Kindle app or Apple books, photo editing and surfing the web or social media. I would love an upgrade thought to make it a bit faster, but so far haven't heard that the mini in inline for an upgrade next year...but if it is I'm all in!

I would love the iPad mini with an M2, or even M1. This would make it a Dream device for me, because of the mix between portability (it fits in some pockets), and more demanding desktop workflows enabled with stage manager. I would Update if Apple included this.

The iPad I really want is the iPad mini pro with an M1 or M2 and external monitor support. Would love a super powerful chip that can fit in my back pocket and turn into a desktop computer whenever/wherever. Battery life may be horrible but i think they could fix that with some software

I had the iPad gen 9 with first gen pencil and I ditched it for the mini 6 with second gen pencil. I did it because mini is lighter, smaller, easier to carry and hold. Battery could be better. But I love it overall! I will get the new one when it comes out because it’s already 2 years old. I read on it all the time, game on it, watch videos. If it broke today, I would immediately high tail it over to Best Buy and get a new one. I love it! ❤

That’s tough. I’d you get refurbished or on sale for at least $100 off, I’d say it’s a decent deal. But we just got rumors today that Apple is updating iPads early 2024 (which could mean anytime Jan-March) so keep that in mind.

Love my mini also - use it mostly for playing backing tracks with my church band and yeah, the battery life is a definite issue I've noticed over time. Seems worse than any apple device I've got, including any (even old) iphones.

i think that it's just a mechanical failure. the same thing happened to my ipad (jammed power button). took it to unauthorized repair to have the chassis hammered. ipad still works. you can try to find someone who can hammer the chassis for you. good luck.

atleast a 90hz and a bump up to 128gb base model for the mini would be the best upgrade. however, i doubt we will ever get that as it would cannibalized their other tablet. Mkbhd make a great video regarding apple pricing skim

Honestly my biggest issue is the battery life on my iPad mini. I got mine a year after launch, it’s not you just your older device, these things have never held a charge like my iPhone or the bigger iPads. What I think would solve this would be a HomePod/magsafe/iPad base with Standby mode for iPad. The mini is a great home display size, and it would allow it to be always charged. It should a universal base for all iPad sizes. A better display and a faster A series wouldn’t be worth the upgrade from the current model, even if the battery was better.

The battery life is truly my only complaint with it. I use it for reading and journaling often and it does way faster than I would expect. The standby life seems much worse than my phone. I would have paid an extra $100 for better battery life.

Duet is an app that can remotely display your Mac OS on iPad. Astropad can turn an iPad into a Mac Mini display. There’s no need to wait for Apple to port MacOS to the iPad. Apple isn’t listening to us. Who was waiting for a “thinner lighter” iPad anyway?

If not pro motion, at least 90hz. I just got a mini for Christmas, and the 60hz is my only real complaint. Otherwise I love this device.

J’ai échangé avec une excellente reprise Apple mon “iPad pro 12.9” (trop grand à mon goût) contre un “iPad pro 11” mais j’ai acheté ensuite en plus un “iPad mini 6” à titre de test. En réalité, ils sont tous très bons, y compris le petit “iPhone SE 2022” qui a une belle connectivité Internet 5G et une magnifique image vidéo. L’utilisateur doit choisir sa taille préférée, l’iPad mini brille par sa légèreté, sa maniabilité, son excellente performance dans à peu près tous les domaines. Apple a le chic pour sélectionner des spécificités techniques très pointues qui plairont au plus grand nombre. Bien à vous

I love my iPad mini but sometimes it’s painful when I transition from other devices with Promotion like the 12.9 M1 and iPhone 14 Pro, I realize Apple wants to keep the iPad Mini affordable but can’t we come to a reasonable compromise? Maybe 50 dollars more for that feature?

I never used an ipad, i always use Samsungs tablets, so I decided to order the 65GB version off Amazon for $425, I need a small tablet that can handle streaming and reading, still wondering if I made the right choice and if the price I paid is a good deal

The lower refresh rate on the display will not be as good as an iPad Pro, but it should be able to run it from a power perspective with no issue!

My theory about battery is that Find My keeps trying to locate airpods. My battery was working fine but after getting airpods Find My keeps draining it to almost empty through the night.

Got SUPER lucky with my mini, bought it for Amazon day the 64GB version, and received the 256gb, and i LOVE IT. the battery really is the only downside of the mini. Hoping for a "pro" version of it at some point. I carry the mini with me everyday, and has almost replaced it with my 11pro
