This episode we go back to our original style of decluttering when I gave a narrative of each individual item. After seeing many messages of how you miss that style, I think it’s best to start adjusting our video styles! I appreciate all your advice and feedback to help us grow our channel to help more people!!!

I also enjoy this type of video a little more than the narration. I think the reason for me is because this way it feels more like I am there with you, by your side cheering you on as you explain the items to me personally. So we are in a way together as friends when you declutter. With narration it feels more like I am just watching from the side and not actually involved in the process. Sorry English is not my language so I hope you understand what I mean 😂 just trying to make sense why I think so many people like this version of videos better 😊 but I truly enjoy all of your videos very much so whatever is best for you is absolutley okay!

I also missed this type of video. I love to watch people declutter and see what items they have in their home and hear why they have them. It's such an interesting window into another person's life, values, etc. So many decluttering videos are of influencers getting rid of make-up or other products they were sent for free and possibly never even used, or clothes they've used in lots of videos so they no longer want them. It's rare to find someone like you who has items that have been genuinely collected through everyday living, have real feelings about, and are letting go of them for personal reason. I love decluttering and helping friends and families straighten their houses, and i feel like your videos have helped me be more compassionate and understanding with others. I've loved all your videos over the years, in both formats, but I'd love to see more like this mixed in again.

I'm a hoarder, and I really liked the videos where you talked about the root of the problem. I have physical pain when I declutter. I need to remember that I'm not throwing my loved one away. My grandmom isn't the object. The object isn't my memory. This kind of video is awesome too. I still have diaper boxes from 10 years ago when the kids were little. I can let them go!

My mom walked by me when I listened to one of these vids and she hated the voice. We are not English, but she said: it sounds like she's talking to little kids all the time!! - I had to laugh because my mom is a teacher for toddlers.. so maybe that's why the association went there.

Hi, you can always record without saying anything when you are in the basement. Keeping in mind the theme you are going for. Later, you can do a voice-over of what you want to touch upon. Until the basement is dust free, you can not talk and decclutter at the same time. It's not fair for you. By doing this, you make people happy and yourself happy. I don't mind either way. All I want to see is your progress and hear the reason behind it because I can relate, and it will help me understand the why of my hoarding.
@shannonkaypaperieshannonja1918
@shannonkaypaperieshannonja1918 Месяц назад
I agree with this sentiment! I like knowing the ‘why’s’ but also like hearing your voiceovers. It seems to me you accomplish both by adding notes to the video as you work and have the voiceover talking about the big picture. That accomplishes both goals I think. But in the end, this is YOUR project and your health. I’ll watch your videos regardless. Hugs!

I much prefer this style of video! While i am so happy that you're addressing your root causes of hoarding, and sharing that with others (which is so kind of you to do) i just want decluttering and how you declutter, as opposed to *why*. I can also appreciate that others may get more from the more emotional videos. I say make what you want, and maybe mark them differently like "talking through hoarding trauma" and "decluttering process". Those are awful ways to describe it, but I'm sure you get what i mean.

I am a paper toucher too. I take my Grandson's school work and place it like a collage on a table I take a index card and write his name and grade that they were done in and then take a picture from above. Once I get the printed picture back I put it in his album for the grade/school year he was in. (I usually get a sample of handwriting, math skill, Art Project(s), etc.). When the picture is in the album, the papers are tossed. He is 15 now, and I saved everything from when he was in my child care so you can imagine that is is a project. I am so happy that I am doing this project for him! It means a lot to me! By the way, I am also doing this for my children who are in their 40's...because I kept everything. I get to keep the memories for them and not the faded papers. I hope that this idea might help you and others.

I enjoy all of your videos. I do find that this type does help me see your decision making skills and helps encourage me a lot and helps me grow in my decision making. I grew up with hoarder parents and grandparents. My dad is definitely the highest level hoarder you can be. I am trying to help my mom know that it’s ok to let things go. I am able to help her some when my dad doesn’t interfere. I have to tell him it’s her things and she can make decisions on them. I have found him going thru the trash bags after I leave. I have to sneak a lot of it to my house and throw it away there, sadly. His hoarding really depresses my mom and she is having walking issues and I am trying to constantly go to their house and make paths so she doesn’t hit her feet against things. Thanks for your videos. They definitely help people ❤❤❤

When the time comes to organise the kids school bins, as a teacher, may I encourage you to view the piece of work through the lens of ‘how much of my child is represented in this piece?’ Rather than focus on how young they were. Colouring in and tracing are motor skill activities with some rote learning, it’s what teachers would consider a product and doesn’t show your child’s process (creativity). Pieces where your child has drawn or written from their own starting point are child led and represent your child as an individual.

I love both styles of decluttering videos - the ones where you discuss each item and why you are letting it go or keeping it and the ones where you talk about mental health, trauma and hoarding disorder. I am in awe of your work ethic. You keep at it week after week and keep making your basement (and the rest of the house and yard) better and better. You have come so far! If the dust bothers you, I would suggest a portable air filtration system or wear a mask. Your lung health is more important than us. Do what works for you.

I think you should do what keeps you going, no matter the style. I appreciate both styles and it was really good to see you do this again. For the other voice over style, an Idea might be to set a time limit. For example, the boys school papers, or something that isn't that visually stimulating - do a 15 min purge for each boys stash of papers, with a voice over. See if you can challenge yourself to make very quick decision on keep or toss over that very short time limit. Then compare the keep and toss piles at the end. After you've gone through it the boys can have a look at the toss pile if they want to but most kids are never that interested. It's items that we keep for ourselves, it's our memories not their's. My 3 kids are now in their 30s and have never looked at the small amount that I've kept from their school days. Anyway, Make it a game and it will help motivate you enormously. Have fun 🙂

I missed these videos a lot! But not to strain your throat or damage your health, how about just a different voiceover method? You could still record it afterwards, talk about the items while editing in the comfort of dust-free room? Also i will say, that as a long time watcher i heard many times about your traumas, but what surprised me today and made it very relatable was how you were speaking about healing and then having no stories to tell about certain items. Maybe giving item descriptions and reasons for declutter but after you already decided to let them go will help you even better voice and connect the hoarder mind processign and the needs and feelings with the items, and help us understand it better or as you said make it less starge or unknown to those who don't suffer from hoarding disorder.

I also like and missed a bit when you would go through each item and talk about them a little. However, I also understand if sometimes there's more things you want to discuss and/or there's so much to go through or it's a dusty spot and you just do a voiceover instead! I like seeing the process either way 💌

First, take care of your health. I think the last thing any of want for you is a scratchy throat. I, too, remember how there would be a story for each and every item. I watch the children's Star Wars basketball hoop go to many places around the upstairs and then move around the basement, but the BEST memory was the little boy at your Yard Sale (this year) practically dance because his parents had bought that for him to take home. Your Journey is just that. I am happy you have progressed to such a place where you can get through more space in one episode that would have been several episodes in the beginning. I would like to see you take the items to the recycle/trash or go in your car for the charity shop. Best wishes on your decision!!!! Perhaps we can have our loved and missed individual comments on the Halloween bins. Best wishes on finding a spot with not so much dust.

Ooooh so excited to see the craft declutter!! It's been a long build-up. Even though the stuff is getting sorted into the appropriate boxes, I bet towards the end you'll start getting empty bins as the "keeps" are consolidated. P.S. Our lil dude Ramen, who looks a lot like Pepper, also agrees that kids' backpacks are a great spot to relax! 😊😺

I also prefer this style, but I worried it might take longer for you to make so I didn't say anything. But thank you for listening to that comment 🥰 I love listening to the story of every tiny thing 😂

I enjoy it when you spend time talking about the individual items. To me it is more like talking with a friend. Having said that I have learnt so much about hoarding and the reasons behind it from the voiceovers.

This is the third time watching this and I noticed you had some of Brandon's old Christmas items made on construction paper and you put them in the "tossy tossy" pile, in the past, you might have had to end there and would have placed it with his sentimental items. You now know that you have lots of his arts and crafts. Such a transformation. also recall when you went over every item in the Laundry room episodes you still hid your identity. But now you show your face. Your progress is tremendous in this five (5) years and you give us all inspiration to face our challenges. Best wishes!!!

I cant wait to see you do a "Kon Mari" style declutter on your craft bins. I def prefer this type of video. Although I understand the need to discuss the reasoning, I found that you were repeating the same things over and over about your "trauma". It was really great seeing the old style declutter again
