Hey Gang!! Really excited about this one. Over the past year and half we've been on an insane journey building the dream garage and we've learned a ton and that journey is just getting started! But now we have this bad boy. The newest StudPack remodel but this is an exciting one because for the first time in Channel history we'll be remodeling a house that we can dream and go big in! Super excited for this series. Hoping to add massive value for the new homeowners!

I'm interested to see what you guys do with the deck, I don't think you have done one in your videos. Maybe a cool design in the deck boards, like how they heat up composite and bend it into different curved designs. Something pimp. I’m pumped for this series. I didn’t get a very good look at it but, my first feeling was to not remove that tree in the back. It looks like it’s providing some great shade for you guys outside and, more importantly, for the house in that Texas heat. For projects, I know it’s fairly big but I’d like to see you guys do an aero barrier (or whatever it’s called now) since it’s a 30 years old and go for a really energy efficient house remodel. For the backyard, go for a hedgerow barrier/fence for maximum privacy.

suggestions: 1. start small, live in the house a little bit and learn what is really wrong with it (and right). cuz when you first move in you think "Oh i gotta change this" and within a few months you realize "gosh it's a good thing I didn't change this cuz it works really well (or not). And also how YOU use the house is almost certainly different than how the last people used the house and you gotta figure that out so you can make it fit your life.. 2. The deck. Decking is stupid expensive and it doesn't last (20/30 years esp in a wet environment like yours)). Because that one is so low to the ground it's almost certainly cheaper to do stamped and/or colored concrete that would last FOREVER. 3. That stairway is dark, and narrow. Opening it up would sure be nice. Without really affecting anything else. 4. Carpet on stairs is the way to go. yeah yeah doesn't look all that great, but you don't slip and fall to your death either. You can also do specialty carpet for just the stairway, so ti's different than up or down. But hardwood/tile/LVP stairs are slick as snot. thumpity thump thump wham
@jperin001
@jperin001 24 дня назад
4. One of the first things I did was remove carpeting on stairs when I moved in to my first house. Definitely KEEP THE CARPET on the stairs. It's especially safer for kids. I and my kids have all busted our rumps with the wind knocked out of us on wooden stairs. It's just a matter of time. Not worth a potential trip to the ER. I should have known better. When I was a toddler I tumbled down my parents uncarpeted stairs and had to get stiches in my forehead.

@darrylschmidt704
@darrylschmidt704 24 дня назад
Happy for you both. A recommendation...Keep the vehicles in the garage and put the game room and storage above. Vehicles cost money and the weather is hard on them. Do add the AC and heat to it. Add a TV for the games :) Maybe build flip up workbenches so you can pull to cars out to work on stuff? Working on projects in a garage is a lot better than in the house or in the yard...

I would get arborist to check out that tree, if its healthy maybe trim some of the limbs going towards the house , and leave it for its shade value. And just incorporate it into the deck or build deck around it giving it plenty of room to grow. But that all depends on the tree.

Awesome!! Congrats Rad and Summer!! Nice house. Can’t wait to see Summer and Rad putting the hard work. I’d break it into phases and you can fine tune as adjust as you learn more about your house and how you live in it: Phase 1 - kitchen / downstairs master and living updates Phase 2 - Deck Phase 3 - upstairs & attic / bridge Phase 4 - second floor above garage. That way you don’t drive yourselves crazy with a whole house that’s ripped apart. Ideas - think about the future and where your kids will be. Do you want to be running up and down the stairs with young kids in the middle of the night? I’d take a hard look at making a new master suite upstairs in the existing or new attic/garage spaces. Then let Rad’s dad have the downstairs master. Maybe put light updates in the downstairs master and spend the bucks on a nice upstairs master suite. That’s just me. The other thing is to maybe consider making another StudPack channel. I see a lot of RU-vidrs doing it. It might help bring in more ad revenue?

Isn't it interesting how things have changed regarding the kitchen. In the 19th century the kitchen was fully isolated from the social space in the house. There was even a Butler's Pantry typically between those spaces to reinforce that kitchen staff should stay out of the "house". This was still somewhat true up to the 1960s as you could not see into most kitchens. Now the kitchens are often the social space of the house. Both my boys and my wife and I cook and we often interact and sometimes collaborate in the kitchen and the living and dining spaces only get use for formal occasions (like Christmas and Christmas Dinner).

@@stephensaines7100Yup, open kitchens are only visually nice. Functionally they suck, at least if you really like to cook. Cooking is loud and if people are trying to talk, watch TV, etc, frustration arises. Also kitchens generate tons of oily mist that gets on everything and are a lot harder to vent when they open to a huge space. Unless if you get a commercial-quality vent which is not at all easy to do for various reasons.

I have a similar but slightly larger breakfast nook type area (my homes from 2002) and yea same I didnt put a table there when I moved in years ago but I LOVE the circlular window feel that area gives. Its actually where my dogs food bowls currently are its got like a mat and holder to look nice too.

Be great to see how you go about taking an existing house and create the new arch design to tie into existing house

You guys were talking about a boat when you were in the garage. How about adding a second garage door on the side of the garage away from the house (lousy description I know). That way you could keep the boat in the back yard by backing it THROUGH the garage. Something I would seriously consider, adding soffit to roof peak vents then insulating under the roof deck, that would make the attic area more of a conditioned space instead of a heat trap.

Texas is the on of the most lenient states to build - almost zero code, so little need for permits. Just look at how close Jordan' garage is to property line w/ his neighbor! So can add a garage just for boat and bikes on side of garage - or over driveway later...after the more important things done.

Fun project! I just saw $$ for everything you talked about. Maybe not quite a quarter million, but close.

I'm so happy for Brad and Summer. This is great to include this home into the video content on your channel. I'm in my 70s and my wife and I live in a two-story home with all bath and bed upstairs. When I heard you mention elevator, got excited. I can barely climb stairs. I sure would like to hear more about the elevator.

Make a custom azek mounting block for a video doorbell when you update the trim inside. Run cat6 to the garage for a wireless access point/hardwired mesh WiFi system

Congrats on the new house guys! I want to give a word of advice (I know, hard to believe folks in the comments would do that). When I heard Summer say she wanted to move the microwave up a little I winced a bit. I redid our kitchen a few years back and we put in a low profile over stove microwave. Loved it…until the first time my 5ft tall wife used it. Her reaching up and in to that microwave is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention me having to fix the turntable every other day for where she’s tried to slide a dish in there and knocked it off the rollers. So, I would say consider a drawer type unit. I know they’re pricey, but in the long run I know you’ll appreciate it. And it looks pretty apparent the Summer is taller than 5ft and might think it’s okay…but I’m 5’10” and I wish I had the drawer style too. Anyway, hope that’s helpful, and best of luck with the reno!

This is great, could you guys do costs (obviously just materials since you guys will be doing the work) as you work on Rad & Summer's house? Because that will give us an idea of a ballpark of how much we need to save to do each of the projects in a remodel situation.

Congratulations on your first home. While I don’t like the look of a low microwave it provides more safety than the higher ones. The one in my kitchen is installed to code is to high so it’s used a bread cabinet and use a counter one for regular use. My personal taste is to keep the trim it adds some classic style and elegance, yeah I get I’m older.
