You got me into solo camping and I’m very grateful for that. I used to get stressed out about trying to get what little mates I had to come out and the fact that I now have the confidence to go out on my own has opened my eyes 👌🏼
I find I can watch and solo camping makes for better content. Well at least I enjoy watching solo content more. As per family trips. Your videos definitely bring the beauty through the screen
People think when we go out as the lads that we eat poorly. It quite the opposite we do roast, curries, stews that kinda thing as we have all the time to make it. Why eat crap.
hi Matt, some great points to think about, some I have raised with friends that not only go solo but camp or travel with their partners and or kids and is one around being prepared and capable - is your wife or girlfriend able to drive the truck - 35's are great while on the truck but they are bloody heavy so the ability to change a tyer can be an issue and they never thought about, for me the main hurdle is getting through the anxiety of being alone and the "what if" things that consume the head space so the ability to camp not far from other campers can be the difference between getting away and not.....! cheers
Freedom! Look at u light up after saying that. Love it. Just did a solo 1 nighter in Dwelly, bit of rain bit of sun and a fire so good. Love the passion Matty u bought up some great points 👏
It is freaky, how alike , just about every comment you mentioned, it is to my camping style. I got tired of waiting for stars to align with all people I usually go camping with, just so we can actually go camping. So I started venturing out on my own. I won't lie, initially I was s#itting my self. Every sound, every crack, every near-by vehicle that drives past, I kept asking my self, What if? One solo occasion in the High Country, i don't think I slept a minute. Heard a few sounds which sent the adrenaline through the roof, while in the swag. But after a few times and getting attuned to bush and becoming comfortable, responsible and sustainable, and prepared, it was the best thing I've ever done. It is definitely not for everybody. There is a certain type of mentality needed for this. Tim Bates done a good video on solo camping. Worth a watch. Thanks for another great upload Matt.
Great video old mate, when I go camping I get so relaxed that I just chill out which is so good for the mind and body where most times I just sit in my chair and just drift off asleep.even without having a beer.
Great video Matt, interesting, helpful points and some I hadn’t considered before. Love solo camping, it’s as fantastic as is sounds, great for mental health too.
You're so right about the freedom! Mine was forced on me due to the death of my wife 3 years ago but I've just spent 41 nights travelling on my own in WA and it was good, good, good! From a selfish perspective, you don't have to consider anyone elses wishes or opinions... And you meet great people on the way. However, having said that, travelling with a partner/mate does have its cons...
DUUUDE, ive said it before, im an absolute solo camping lover....one of the things that can help with silence, especially if u havent had any contact with another human for a couple of days is to find the shittiest talk back radio station and listen, the worse the topics the better....love the content mate 🙂
Yes that’s why it’s good to keep busy with cooking and tending to the fire ect. Forced to sit back and tune into the bush. It’s a great print isn’t it, thanks mate!
Well said mate, i have always enjoyed a solo camp , but you have inspired me to do more. I do love the trips with my mrs though but its the same , we can do exactly what we want when we want , hard to explain but you nailed it. Cheers Shad
I did my first solo camp a couple months back, I just went to a spot I was very comfortable getting too and been too multiple times, yes medicine is recommended I suffered a migraine on my second day and forgot to restock my Panadol etc aha good sleep and off I went again best thing for me was keeping busy doing things with the fire I usually wouldn’t do if I was with a group of mates was just peaceful can’t wait for another one
Very well said mate. Solo camping is a great way to get out and reconnect. I personally much rather get as far away from others as possible, I generally feel safer alone plus you don't have the noise from their music, conversations etc. In saying that a camp with family or mates is also great, I've just spent 2 nights out bush with a mate and loved it. We had a mad cook up, I tried my first ever Camp Oven Quiche (Worked well), went on a bit of a hike and filmed a few videos for my channel but most of all we relaxed and listened to nature. I don't get those that need music blaring all the time but some soft gentle music (Country is normally good, John Williamson is great) but not so loud you can't hear the wind, birds, water if there is a stream etc etc. I really is a great way to dust off suburbia and just unwind.
Great topic Matt, and some good points there. As much as I do like to get out with the boys, or wife I do love a good solo camp. I find it helps me reset especially with work or life in general 👍🏽
