Are you thinking about going Carnivore? The Carnivore Diet is becoming very popular, but there have been questions about Vitamin C and even SCURVY! If you are considering this diet you should know a few facts about Vitamin C.
There are people who have been practicing Carnivory for 2 decades, and they have great skin, great muscles and all their teeth. How are they doing this when everyone Knows that you can only get vitamin C from fruits and a little from veg??
Turns out, as is the case regarding many nutrition topics, we've only been told half the story. This video, and my other videos about the carnivore diet, may help clear up any confusion about the safety of the carnivore diet.

Did carnivore for a weeks and when I reintroduced veg I could tell exactly which ones were upsetting my body. I am now 95% carnivore with the odd happy vegetable thrown in when my body says so. Keto never worked for me though I tried for months and learned all I could about it. No weight lost and no inches. Plant based I slowly lost some weight, but no inches. Yay, 2 weeks in on carnivore and all that middle-aged middle is melting away. If I start to feel bad might add a few greens, but so enjoy the absence of bloating.

I had to write about my diet and defend it in my Redefining Nutrition Class... My diet was a colorful sulfur rich diet that included regenerative meats and organs. The next research paper we had to write was a diet opposing ours. Since mine was "colorful" I had to go complete opposite with the carnivore diet. I felt I had completely set my self up to fail, but I was so convinced by the research I came across with the meat-based & plant-free diet that I think it was really earth shattering for the vegans that had to write and comment on my paper. As an ex-vegan, I now realize there is no one way for every person to eat, but many! Carnivore diet may bring relief to some and others it's not their jam. Listen to your body y'all. You are your own best advocate for your health. You are the captain of your microbe and bacterial earth vessel we call a body. There are more microbes and bacteria inside all of us that are trying to get us to homeostasis EVERY SECOND!!! Try not to throw a wrench in their processes if you can... they will appreciate it!

An additional thing to consider is this: Vitamin C and glucose are similar in their chemical structures. They compete for receptor sites on your cells to gain entrance. If you're eating a high-carb diet and your body relies on glucose for its energy, your requirement for Vitamin C goes way up because of the competition for those receptor sites. On a carnivore diet, your blood isn't flooded with glucose, and you don't need nearly as much Vitamin C. In any case, there has never been a documented case of a carnivore developing scurvy.

do vitamin injections or nutrition iv therapy so much easy than supplementing, supplementing is a sucky way to go you omly get partial of the vitamin cause it goes through stomach. Vitamin/mineral injections/ ivs last a long time and you get a hundred percent absorbtion through blood stream and optimal nutrition levels same day. Vitamin d injections can last up to 1-3 months and matters the dose. If you want to know what vitamins you need go to a holistic dr, they do very thorough nutrtion blood testing regular drs and providers wount do and dont do. Holistic drs and medical spas do iv nutrition therapy and nutrition injections. wayyyyyyyyy better then supplementing! Carnivore can not fix all nutrrion issues

I get my vitamin C from eating fresh raw red meat. And I added this before watching the video. 4 months now eating only animal foods. I do eat some cheese and eat butter. I eat lots of eggs too. Actually clean pastured beef liver is really good raw. The Indigenous Peoples of Northern Canada from Quebec to British Columbia eat raw Caribou Liver. I love liver. There is.a couple pounds in my freezer right now. Oh yeah I raise meat duck.....duck liver lightly fried in duck fat is Yummmmmmy. I make "steak tartar" that is chopped beef with that really hard white fat found around the kidneys mixed 50-50 by volume. Salt, freshly ground black pepper, red pepper flakes, and freshly ground coriander seed. It is really delicious too. So I would suggest that doing a dietary regimen as close to Zero Carbs as is humanly possible is nutritionally exciting by just using a little culinary creativity. I don't cook all of my meats and never heat fish. I prefer using vinegar to cook fish. I prefer my beef raw. I cook my pork to medium. My duck is closer to rare and my chicken is cooked until it releases from the bone. I raise my own chickens too. I could probably eat them raw safely but prefer the tenderness offered by cooking. I do often eat raw egg yolks. Then cook the whites to feed to my chickens. I will never add plants back into my dietary regimen. I am Zero Carbs for the rest of my life. At almost 70 I expect to be around for at least 20 more years, perhaps longer. As long as I can remain ambulatory my life is good and since stopping all carbs it is rapidly improving.

Not all in that biome is good. So by eating sugar and carbs you are feeding the bad guys. Stop eating sugar and carbs and you are starving them out and allowing the good guys to take charge. Once I learned this it was much easier to get through those cravings. No way was I going to feed the bad guys. Make sure you get electrolytes and lots of fluids. Flush them out. @michaelnance5236 5 лет назад
@@bubbbbletea Not insensitive at all, something that I've asked myself many times. I can't say that it isn't. My diet, at the time I was doing it (what I'm calling Atkins), was probably closer to a high fat, high protein, low carb diet than a high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet. This diet always was driven by large amounts of grain fed beef. While I was able to lose weight, lower inflammation and cholesterol doing this, it's a far cry from what is recommended by the Keto folks. I've lost 60-100 lbs on numerous occasions only to gain it back when I ran back to carbs. I'm also one of six brothers and a father who have all had heart attacks and procedures. I would be lying if I said that I'm not questioning everything now. It's seems to me the more I've read that the burning of Ketones as an energy source, IF done properly with proper nutrition and food sourcing, is a very healthy life style. I think the scientific discussions are focused on burning ketones as opposed to glucose, while the philosophical discussions fall along animal or plant based diets. I'm interested in hearing what is the healthiest alternatives at this point. Thanks for taking the time to ask!

@bubbbbletea 5 лет назад
@@michaelnance5236 Thanks for answering! I'm still not educated enough to draw any significant conclusions, but your background story helped a lot. Been carnivore for about 6 months now, I'm bruising very easily and finding myself feeling super lethargic and tired all of the time. My legs look like a game of BattleShip, little bruises, big bruises, long lines, spaced out. It's getting out of hand, and now some old bruises that are over 10 days old are RE-BRUISING in the same place. I eat exclusively ground beef and eggs, I literally cannot afford to buy whole cuts of meat. And when I say I can't afford, I don't mean "It's too expensive and I don't want to spend my hard earned cash", I mean, "I literally cannot complete the transaction due to insufficient funds". We're not all well off. Easy bruising and constant lethargy are the tell tale signs of early stage scurvy. When I cook my ground beef, I cook it until browned, I'm not eating raw ground beef, so it destroys what little vitamin c remains. I need vitamin c, I've been needing it for months, I was a fool for thinking I don't need any, but shame on others for convincing me that "Just ground beef is fine" when it's not.

I became vitamin C deficient and anaemic due to moving too deeply towards cooked ground beef only. Ensure you include some rare/uncooked meat/cuts. I watched a vid this morning about case studies of people who had been on carnivore for 8 months at least. They developed histamine problems and bleeding gums. They supplemented ascorbic acid and all their problems went away in days. Vitmain c is used by the adrenals during high stress, as well as vit c veung a powerful main antioxidant -we live in a polluted, toxin filled world/environment, and live very stressful lives. For this reason, it may be necessary for some to take vit C, because we nonlonger live in hunter gatherer times, we live in worse mental emotional and more toxic environments.

Higher levels of glucose can inhibit vitamin C absorption because they share the same transporters (like GLUT1 and GLUT3), and the body has a stronger preference for absorbing glucose. Therefore, a carnivore diet, which is low in glucose, has a lower need of vitamin C. Drinking a sugary drink with vitamin C, cancels out the vitamin C.

Again, listen carefully to how he’s explaining the amount and need for vit. C on carnivore. When you are at an all time low, with inflammation in your body, your body needs much less of the vit. Heat may destroy to SOME extent…NOT ALL is lost…the proof of that is in the findings with people’s outcomes. Everyone would be getting scurvy in carnivore communities and it’s simply not the case. Cooking anything destroys heat sensitive vitamins up to approximately 50% but not ALL of it. Stop fearing and go with EVIDENCE. I’m a nurse and 9 mo. carnivore.

One thing I would like to see you stress more is the importance of the QUALITY of the meats you eat. If you are consuming meats from conventionally-raised animals, you are also consuming the pesticides, antibiotics, and genetically-modified ingredients that were a part of their diet. Conventional meats are also lower in nutritional value because much of what those animals were fed was not something that is a natural part of their diet. Choosing organic, grass-fed, pasture raised (etc.) meats and animal products is far superior in numerous ways. Thank you for all your great videos! :)

Where do you get desiccated liver tabs.?? I was listening to this video by Dr. Berg about going carnivore. I was considering trying it. Then he mentioned the "organ" meats to get your Vitamin C. Oh, puke, puke, puke!! I hate liver and would never even consider spleen and pancreas. I've been doing Keto since March of 2017, I'm 61, and I listened to some new doctor the other day and realized I was eating too many vegetables. Then I worried that OMG, am I eating enough fat?? All this time I thought I was doing good and preaching the good word about Keto and now I'm realizing I'm not doing this diet correctly. I've lost 50 lbs., thus far and want to lose another 30 or 40. I'm 183 now and 5'.7.5". If I lose another 40 lbs., that will put me at the weight I weighed in high school. Fortunately, even doing Keto a little bit wrong, I've reversed my T2 diabetes, I don't have a bleeding ulcer or diverticulitis, my skin is so much better and since I was 18, I started suffering from anxiety attacks or panic attacks when I drove. I could drive in town, but I could never get out on the highway. It really messed up my life. About a year ago, I had to go out of town to a dentist about one hour away. I decided to try and drive it. As I left the city and got out on the highway, no panic attack. I was shocked. So I finally beat that too. I went off my statin drug against my doctor's advice. I see him every 3 months and I'd get the lecture about my cholesterol and triglycerides being too high. In the back of my head, I was thinking "Doc, give this diet some time. I've eaten like crap for probably 50 years and I'm healing my body and it's not going to happen overnight." My lab work this month showed my cholesterol was finally going down on its own. I don't want to mess with doctors big egos, so I would just listen and then go do it my way. No way would I put another statin in my mouth. I've done the research. I have sat in front of this computer for 18 months now doing research and, nope, statins are horrible. Anyway.... if desiccated liver tabs would give me the proper Vitamin C, I might give carnivore a shot. I'd love to hear your opinion! Thanks, Vickie

@@Enidangel22 I have a normal palette that appreciates a good grass fed hamburger and so I have to tell you, and just about everyone else: I think we might be eating All meat the wrong way. This summer I was plunging the world of deep keto, so I got frozen liver and heart from a very local beef & dairy grassfeeding farmer, whose milk n cream I trusted/enjoyed all the way for 2 years. [This guy's farm deserves a magazine spread.] I mention frozen, because that's how I preferred to KEEP my liver and just supplement with it. Cooked it in beginning all sorts of ways from alright to near great. Well since I kept slicing off hot wheel car-sized chunks, I'd occasional clean up crystallized slivers that calved from the cooking portion. Instead of losing it in the skillet to over cooking, I'd pop it in my mouth, and always pleased to do so. One time, I got the Big Heart frozen, thawed it and nearly pulled a muscle trying to cleave muscle from the pleura??/hard-fatty outer SHIELD lol. And fried it up hour later. Got smart and mauled/axed the next frozen heart I got, outside on a stump. (Not a better tool for the job, believe it.) Once in frozen plum sized chunks, it became VERY easy to butcher meat from, especially frozen. (Who knew how tender beef heart was?!) Well, started poppin' still frozen heart slivers in me mouth as well. Setting the seen, working ground crew for tree guy in middle of Summer, just recent. Little time to shop or cook, and KNOWING I had to get perfect rest and nutrition, I exclusively ate it from frozen to thawed raw in salad, then exclusively mouth popping. It is delicious! High grade sashimi heart competes up there with raw tuna and salmon, with Liver taking 4th. And as of this week I finally took the biggest social-phobia plunge: eating thawed refridge cooled RAW HAMBURGER MEAT! You wouldn't guess it in a million years, but I darn near preferred the raw to one of my BEST burger recipes. In fact, it is superior in two crucial areas. There is a delectable SWEETNESS! to all three meats. Like deliciously Sweet. And less significant, but very appreciated: A very smooth clean finish. No rich oily mouth, no smokey burnt meat notes at all. I'm sure to drink my ACV, lemon, mineral water (Dr. Berg) style, nearly daily, if not 2x. My farmer has a 20 herd operation, no diseased animals on his grass. I'm wondering if this is how it was intended to be eaten?? Now thinking about the DiCaprio movie TheRevenant fresh liver-eating scene must have been the most heavenly experience in that scenario of starvation...but I still prefer my raw, beef sashimi chilled. Hope this helped. It's that good, I was compelled to pass it on.

A few lemons now and again won't hurt you if you're afraid of the raw meat available to you

@@texanboiii562 I Think she means that you could have lemons for vitamin C instead of liver.
