I think for the topical ones, yes. While I appreciated the music added to the Kawasaki KX compilation video, where it added to the flow and sense of significance to the restoration as a whole, the shorter videos where you are concentrating on one area (wheels in this one, suspension in a previous one, etc.) benefits from not having music. In these videos, you are focused and the ASMR-like quality of the audio makes us feel like we're in the garage or at the workbench trying to solve the mechanical problem right beside you, looking over your shoulder. Having no music enhances the "being there" effect of all the mechanical sounds and ambient noise. Save the music for when you have completed the masterpiece and the orchestra is ready to unveil the entire process.
Will, thanks for this thoughtful comment. What you're saying makes a lot of sense and I think I'll start making the shorter ones without music, at least some of them. I wish more people would share their thoughts.
@@madmarc and thank you for sharing your art with us. Your video "Jaw-Dropping Dirt Bike Restoration | 1995 KX250" remains one of my absolute all-time favorite RU-vid videos. I re-watch it regularly. I'm personally invested in what you do because I rode motocross and ATV during the 80s and 90s, and the nostalgic vibes go into overdrive when you're putting as much skill and attention to detail as you do into the restoration of these weary relics. I don't have the mechanical proficiency that you obviously possess (you've turned yours into sheer artistry), but I do recognize the care you put into your work and for that I am appreciative of what you do, and thankful that you chose to share it with us. If you were local to me, I would throw all kinds of money at you for your time and expertise to restore my Honda ATC back to its former glory.
I have all my zinc plating done at a local shop (along with my anodizing and powder coating). They are very efficient. They can do every nut and bolt on your bike for maybe $120 or so. I think if you buy a kit you'll need to string them up individually and would be way more trouble than it's worth. I'll have a video soon of all the stuff i electroplated.
