Mark is THE most humble and professional musician I know of. Just him, his band and his wonderful music to his fans. No Glitz. No glamor, just wonderful music presented with grace.
I grew up on Elvis, Hendrix, Beatles, stones, Doors, Clapton...best of the best. Stevie Ray....a legend. Then there's Mark Knopfler, The best. He has evolved for 50 years and is so stoic. God Bless you Mark.
I watched the film stayed to watch the credits found out where it was made went to arisaig and mallaig bougt the tape played in in my car whilst sitting on the beach looking out to the ilands.my favourite film beautifuly shot great humour and the soundtrack is unbeatable Where are you? Id love to talk to you about it Alan. England
@@alanjones5786I think we wore out the Local Hero cassette on camping trips to Fraser Island on Australia’s east coast. Late nights, sitting on the beach, miles from civilisation, kidding ourselves we were fishing but really just an excuse to drink a few beers and have Local Hero cranked up and on repeat.
I brought my children to watch him in Dublin, they had been listening to my old music collection as they grew up, there wasn’t a dry eye between them. Probably the best concert of any sort that I have been at. Yes we had better music than they do today.
Yes the first time I heard Dire Straits we all commented on the guitar & how unique the sound was. He has been around a while now, his sound is so unique . The soundtrack to Local Hero has to be one of the greatest bits of music of the last century . This guy is just brilliant.
Real musicians, real instruments playing real music. 🥹 I saw Mark here in Wuerzburg in 2010 live. Watching his fingers play guitar from 3 Meters distance, I will remember this evening till the end of my days!
Musica senza tempo né spazio né confini, la ascolti e ti elevi ad un piano superiore della realtà, l'anima vola in alto dove nulla può scalfirla né ferirla. Immenso Mark Knopfler
He also play in smaller venues so the acoustic are better. He made all the money he’ll ever need me on MTV. I think he plays whatever in his heart. I be that he magical. He can make his point without saying a word.
This piece of musical genius is approaching 40 years old, and like other great Rock pieces never fails to sound totally freaking awesome. Thank you Mark Knopfler.👍
Going home … Saint James’ Park… Local hero… Newcastle United… the players come on to the pitch with this song playing around the stadium… goosebumps… pure bliss … how a song can’t be any better 🙏🏻
As I left scotland nov.1995 5 months later had major brain surgery that night on the plain ride my cousin had slipped in a cd and I played going home as we departed glasgow! As I think how I almost never made it back brings me chills to this day
This brilliant piece of music sounds great at any volume, low or high or anywere in between, and I to have had this at full blast while driving and sounds amazing to, what a musician Mark knopfler is
There are guitar players, and there is Mark Knopfler.... One of the best, maybe the best. His guitar is trumbling with it's own voice. Incredible to hear and feel that experience. What an amazing challenge.
Local Hero is my favorite movie (after Casablanca). The characters and movie plot are wonderful and quirky. The best part is Mark and the original score he wrote. He is so talented. I hope to see him some day in a live concert
Being Scottish this brings a tear. Mark Knopfler spent some of his early years in Glasgow. I saw him in conversation with the Scottish musician, Phil Cunningham, Mark’s Scottish accent became stronger as the conversation went on!
Happy New Year 2023 BEST Wishes Healthy Happiness Success Prosperity, Huge Thank for so many Beautiful Songs along the years Bless you to continue more and more. Great Love from Israel 7.1.2023
Happy New Year Dad......I started last year and I play this every year at new year for my Dad who passed away on 7th January - a huge Newcastle United fan who loved Spain ❤
May your dad rest in peace my dad is in very poor health right now it will be tough to lose him. God bless and live your life for your dad we will all meet up when it’s our time to go home. God bless from South Carolina 🙏🏻
@Giniminimanemo Your reply made me cry, I was very touched. His first anniversary just on 7th past there was hard and I cried but I also spent alot of time remembering all of our happy times. He was my absolute world.
@@certavietvici2708 Thank you, yes and when I see him again all I want him to feel is proud ❤ Cherish every moment with your dad and make sure you tell him you love him before he passes and thank him for being a great dad. I did and although we aren't a soppy family normally, I don't regret it for a second
I fall in love with this song all over again, every time I hear it, and it still has the power to bring tears every single time. It strikes a deep chord in me just like Rhapsody in Blue does. Grabs my heart. Just brilliant!
It has changed in the time , that’s part of its appeal he varies it . I saw a slowed down version at Goodwood racing track where he was honouring Stirling Moss. An absolute master musician.
@@alanjones5786 I had Pennan on my list to goto, Unfortunately that day I had a bad cold & just drove straight to Inverness. I was going to drive up from Aberdeen,Mallaig is definitely on my next trip . I love Scotland , My father was a Mustang pilot during World War 11 and used to train in Scotland. I am Australian but love the place from Edinburgh north .
Happy birthday dearest Mark 72 years old today.Hope your having a fantastic day where ever you are.Keep on rocking dear friend. You are loved by many.💓💖💕❤️💗💞🌹❣️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️
Local Hero is my favorite movie of all time, and Mark Knopfler is definitely in my top ten musicians. Together, this music and that movie, made one of the most touching works of art I have ever experienced. I can watch and listen again and again. It gets more bitterwseet as I age. It reminds me so heartbreakingly of my youth and the things we leave behind.
I love how over the years the great “song” has evolved. Mark definitely plays with it . I suspect it’s my favourite piece of music. I have the Local Hero CD which this tune is the basis of. He is a master of his art.
Agree, DS used to end their shows with this from the early 80s onwards with the road crew taking the microphones down during the song ! MK plays it on a Les Paul now rather than a Strat and I like the way the arrangement has changed to reflect the larger band he plays with nowadays, such as the brass section. But even in DS days he used to evolve songs over the course of a few tours.
Best Music from the best Gitarre Player of the World, he makes Music from the bottom of His Heart, and He can make Play the Gitarre you think the 🎸 cry, For me the best Song Writer and all Titels are for me Hits and makes the World nicer when I hear him!!! Mark Knopfler I hope I can hear you one Time more, but I thinking of a lot of Gigs with Him, every Time and every day!!I hear Him Live with Dire Straits 12 Times in Germany and Switzerland, and I hear him Solo with the Band 20 Times, at last 2019/ 8 Juli in Stuttgart Schleyerhalle and I thinking not the last Tour from him, he says in Stuttgart he are tired but he will play for us, so what can i do?? "I Play for you (Mark Knopfler!!) so I hope every Day and Year, he comes after Corona to play one Tour in Europe again for us!!!
Masterpiece. Played it, when reaching the highlands by car in 2000. It was like coming home. The song is so full of longing and always moves me to tears.
Possibly only locals will be able to understand: Approaching Vienna by car at nighttime from the hills in the southwest over the A21 highway, coming home from a trip, seeing the lights of the city below and streaming 'Going Home' in the cars sound system never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Thank you for that masterpiece.
From hearing it first in 1986 when I watched Local Hero the first time, to finding it again in the album, online and RU-vid... It can never ever fail to hit deep within my soul and raise the spirit. Always my go to tune in all situations of my life. True blue fan of Mark Knopfler always.
Prabhjit, when I saw it at the cinema, I waited to watch the credits to see where it was made, the following week I went to Mallaig and Arisaig. Beautiful.
