Theme song from the movie.....LOCAL HERO !! If you love Scotland, you will LOVE this movie--gorgeous scenery, music by Mark Knopfler. Starring Burt Lancaster, Peter Capaldi, Peter Reichart, Jenny Seagrove, and more. Lovely movie. They played this at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo that I went to in either 1996 or 97. Theme of Braveheart at beginning of Tattoo, Skye Boat song also played, but this......this song has my heart.
I've seen the movie on somewhere and i remember the video quality were really bad but did not mind it at all the movie atmosphere and feeling was amazing i loved it. And would love to found it somewhere again and again
i know im randomly asking but does anybody know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my account password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Devon Abraham i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Heard this at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Melbourne Australia in 2016, I distinctly remember the feeling of my body being covered in goosebumps and the emotions it brought about and decided that this was going to be the song to be played on my final journey back home to my family members that have passed before me.
@1.49- I am proud to be English through and through, BUT-when those massed pipes march in, I get shivers down my back, every time. I have attended the Tattoo a number of times and feel like an honorary Scot,it's so stirring!
I am a patriotic Englishman but I also love Scotland, the Scottish people and their pipe bands. This clip gives me goose bumps when the pipers march in!
Had this played as the final song at my husband's funeral. He was a proud Scot, a guitarist and a piper. So it was an obvious choice. I hope he heard it.
I listened to this tonight for our 4 fallen Police officers In Melbourne. 2 have been laid to rest, 1 has made the long journey home by road to Newcastle with full honours, and our final officer will be laid to rest tomorrow. Then they will all be going nome to the big station to serve and protect us from above. 💙💙💙💙
That guitarist is Matt Gregory, from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. He starts the great Mark Knopfler "Going Home" fairly slowly, then really lets it rip towards the end. Great compose, great number, great guitarist playing it here, & the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards giving the perfect backing. Absolutely spell-bounding!
I have heard this song played by hank Marvin and the shadows and i loved it, but this was incredible a lone guitarist with an entire military band behind him. I wasn’t expecting the pipes and drums to join in, when they did I got a shiver down my spine, makes you proud to be scotish
I saw the movie in a theater in 1983 when it was released. It didn't stay there long. Best movie I've ever seen. Joy of life, wry humor - "I'll make a good Gordon, Gordon" - and Knopfler's music to bring tears to your eyes. Every time I hear it.
Probably because there is a traditional tune played by pipes called Going Home that is used for the military, LEO, and FF in the line of duty. That is what they might have been expecting. It's actually what expected to hear a tattoo play, not a Knopfler song.
I was fortunate enough to land in Edinburgh that day, picked up by my Wee Scottish Lass we came to this amazing Tattoo, Mark Knophler has always been a great idol of mine and to hear "Going Home" with bagpipes got me teary eyed. Beautiful Scotland! Was good to see my people perform there too. Love and respect from New Zealand
To a Knopfler´s and everything related to Scotland lover like me, this has been an expirience! I didn´t know this performance and it has brougth tears to my eyes! wow!
If you liked that, check out the version by the Vatersay Boys at the Glasgow Barrowlands. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1VfoxVGO-mk.html
Great when lights turn on to welcome the marching orchestra.... as the guitar, pipes and percussion explode the melody. Very touching, very "sterling".
My brothers in this he does our family proud, every time I come on to listen to this it sends shivers down my spine seeing them come out makes me so proud 💜☺
@@johnmcdowall7451 Sorry bonnie lad but was brought up in Newcastle and still has his Geordie accent to prove it, and I believe doesn't have a drop of Scottish blood in him. Try St. James's Park were the Toon run out to this at every home game, and the massive roar of 52000 Geordies as the last notes ring out. Howay the lads.
Thankyou! I come back to this video time and time again. One of my favourite pieces of music in a setting of my childhood. Very much appreciated and enjoyed often.
I heard two of my friends play this guitar and accordion together I wanted to listen to it again and I heard my father play it and recognised it immediately
One of the all time greatest instrumentals ever. ! Composer...guitar maestro Mark Knopfler of the group " Dire Straits ". You must hear the version played by the greatest instrumental group of all time...the British group " The Shadows ". There is also a version of this played on stage by Hank Marvin , Lead guitarist of The Shadows and Mark himself....both with their Stratocasters....incredible music.!!!!! Music that is inspiring , rousing , and thrilling. Awesome.!
Lovely song and played very well on guitar, but even better when the pipes started. "going Home" was played at my wife's funeral six years ago. She loved Scotland and the pipes, glad we got to tour there in 1999.
I remember watching this program it was so good still get hairs stand on the back of my neck such a brillant end to what I think is the event of the year!!!!love from The isle of Mann!wayne
best time to visit Scotland is in August Edinburgh Tattoo and fringe festival its awsum but Scotland any other time is still amazing Edinburgh is my home town born there now living in Northen Ontario going back next year in August
I think this is the theme from the wonderful movie, 'Local Hero'. Don't know if it is called 'Going Home' but I was expecting the one from the 'New World Symphony'.
I love this but I don't mean to cry but it just reminds of my past childhood and my papa died and I miss him I miss my good old days but I know that I am stronger then this pain or this sadness I can get up because god always helps me up
