As a final comment: don’t worry too much about apologizing about things. We are purposely watching YOU for the blind playthrough aspect so we are here for all of the struggles and frustration. That’s what makes your experience so unique but relatable. :)
this 100%, we've played the game a few hundred times, done dozens of challenge runs, and sl1'd the entire series. We are here to relive our first times popping the darksouls cherry.
Honestly I have gotten super lost am having a hard time progressing so I am watching to see someone hopefully help enlighten me. I also came from Elden Ring into this blind😊
I’m just curious why people think zweihander is the best weapon not you just saying overall lol. Literally 30 other weapons do more damage and look better
@@tylerrorie1856 I think a lot of people just tend to find it early because it's in the starting area. It feels really cool for a couple of reasons. You have to run through all of those terrifying (at the beginning) skeletons, happen to find the right item, then usually wait and grind up a bit to be able to use it. Then, once you've invested that much time and energy into being able to wield it, it's got a sweep for aoe and good early game damage against bosses. The R2 is really strong and fun to use too, and it's viable through the entire game. TLDR: It's a pretty decent weapon that lasts through the whole game and many people find it early as a reward for exploration so they tend to be attatched to it. Personally, I used it for my entire first run and got it to +15.
Me as he skipped the messages telling you how to use your flask. "Wow can't believe he's doing a no flask playthrough for his blind first run of Dark Souls."
I simply ADORE watching dark souls blind plays. However I'm picky about who I watch, but finding your channel was a true treat. I've watched a few people who have now completed them and also watched through the Lore videos afterwards, it's such a wonderful experience to be able to see people experience this for the first time. I found this video by happenstance and I am so glad I did, I cannot wait to watch you learn about this world and I hope you decide to go through DS2 and DS3 ❤
Were either of your channels you watched mapocolops or mati?!? Both of their playthroughs on each game are 10/10s. Frustration, curiosity, amazement, the whole 9 yards.
@@97GreenBean for sure!! if you know any others let me know, I love watching the different ways people play these games blind after beatin em! its like reliving the feeling through someone else. man am i gonna be sad if FS ever falls off like activision, EA, etc
Just wanted to put my two cents in: PLEASE avoid everything that might spoil this game for you - you can only experience this game for the first time once, and the purest form is to do it in your own way. Every playstyle is just as valid as another. Good luck and I look forward to your souls experience :)
Hey man, I am SO happy you are diving into this world! I'll be here for the entire journey and looking forward to every moment! -Love the longer episodes, keep em coming! -Don't apologize for your style or any mistakes you make, we're here for it all and the growing pains are part of the process, something we all went through; some sick bastards even enjoy watching people suffer blindly in these games ;) -Resistance, as a stat, is a complete waste -Enjoy the experience thoroughly, even and especially through the pain; so many of us would give a small appendage to be able to re-experience these games blindly, and that includes the suffering. -Don't be afraid to pimp this LP out wherever you can, especially where souls players congregate: as per my previous point, many souls vets are absolute JUNKIES for a blind playthrough; go through the entire series and you should see some significant growth in your channel. Cheers and enjoy!
In addition to any *non-spoiler* quality-of-life tips, please let me know if you have any feedback for audio/visual quality of this episode. Always trying to improve! Thanks :) Timestamps: 35:10 - Balls to the face. 47:51 - Asylum Demon (Boss Fight) 56:05 - Big bird. 1:50:42 - Falling for a bridge trap. 2:11:20 - DRAGON! 2:54:03 - Taurus Demon (Boss fight) 3:04:45 - Defeating Taurus with Jedi powers 3:19:52 - Unlimited runes? 3:27:48 - Humped by a boar. 3:29:10 - Is this sparta? 3:32:17 - Peekaboo.
I break down the kind of tips I'm talking about somewhere in the first 10 mins of the video I think. Strictly no spoilers, but like... quality of life tips are welcome. The kind of thing where I'm missing something obvious or blatant (I am historically stupid and miss basic things often lol).
I'm a fan of Mapo. Loved his MGS playthrough. Believe me I get it - I am very wary and sensitive to spoilers. Then again, I've become so expert at avoiding spoilers through doing RU-vid and reading comments etc that I can kind of see if a spoiler is coming and generally stop reading and block it out. I do read all comments but many times if I read a sentence like "blablabla, make sure you watch out for ******" I will just shut my brain off and stop reading and it works surprisingly well. I'll definitely be careful with comments for this game though!
@@LiquidBlitzPlays Figured this is a good place to let you know. Humanity is for multi player mostly and kindling, you need the right of kindling though so just save them. there is a specific reason firelink gives more flasks that i wont spoil. you can jump, need to be running and i think its L3 to jump, that bridge with the ring of sacrifice can be jumped. Also, that dragon is technically not a dragon, but a Drake (lame i know). and a tip for running is to press the run button down with your pointer finger and use your thumb for the camera. Also since you are offline, all comments are left by Devs for a reason. Hope this helps
I recently discovered your Elden ring series and I'm still watching it. I love your approach. Chill and entertaining at the same time. I'll come back to this once I'm done with Elden. Keep doing your thing.
2:40:02 I literally laughed out loud here. That was the most unintentionally comical thing i've seen in a long time, felt like something out of a Monty Python skit.
Man, I marathoned the series last year and already it's so nostalgic seeing someone hop into Dark Souls 1 for their first time. There's really nothing like it. Good luck with your adventure, and I truly hope you enjoy this dark, depressing yet joyful game
3:06:00 that Taurus suicide usually happens near big gap in the wall, where you can simply walk off. But for him to jump Over the wall, this I see for the first time in 5000 hours of watching letsplays and playing xD impressive skills, dude xD
I know I am kinda late here but I just found this video and I must say you have one of the best blind playthroughs of dark souls I've ever seen and I've seen quite a few of them. You were very methodical, noticing basically everything there was to notice (except how to jump 😅), which was great. Very good parrying and overall combat skills as well. I am really impressed. You are not so focused on the lore, at least so far, which is a little bit disappointing, but honestly, I really enjoy watching your playthrough. I can't wait to see the rest of it, including ds 2 and 3 as well as your beginings in elden ring. These games are really amazing and I'm glad to see you enjoying them. I don't know if you are currently playing ds 3 or if you already finished, but good luck with whatever u are playing next.
I really like the longer videos. it gives me the option to watch it whenever I please as youtube remembers where was I in the video. really loving the playthrough so far. I always heard dark souls has amazing level design and now I am starting to understand why. it looks like a maze and its all interconnected it seems. can't wait for another episode!!
Oh my, am I happy to see this video! Here is some gameplay tips for you: Equipment load have three levels. You have fastest and longest roll with the light load (below 25% of your max load), a slower and shorter roll at the mid load (25%-50%) which also give you less invincibility frames. And 50%-100% is a heavy roll, yikes. You can jump by pressing the roll button while sprinting. You can switch it to the pressing L3 while sprinting in the settings. You can descend ladders quickly by double-tapping the roll button. You effective strength increases by 50% if you hold weapon in two hand which can boost your damage (depends on the STR scaling of the weapon) and allows you to use a weapon that you wouldn't meet requirements for otherwise. Your weapon can break if it's durability drops to 0 and then it is lost forever. Weapon loses durability bit by bit when you hit anything with it, so it would be best to smash boxes by rolling or kicking instead of hitting it with the weapon. Most of the weapons are pretty tough and take a lot of smacking before they are in danger but it best to check durability every now and then. Armor also loses durability when you take damage, but it takes pretty much forever to break a piece of armor. Merchants usually have more than one category of the items to sell you can switch between when you trading, so you saw only part of the undead merchant guy's stock. You figured kindling out yourself, congrats on that. Yes, kindling the bonfires increases amount of Estus Flask they give you. To reinforce the healing power of your Estus Flask you'll need the items named "Fire Keeper Soul" and help of the NPC you haven't found in this episode. When you reversing your hollowing, you regain your human form which allows the multiplayer. However it is also have relevancy in the offline game too, because some summonable phantoms and dark spirit invaders are actually NPC characters from the game. Some of them have their own mini-plots/quests and you can get extra feeling of connection with them by fighting along side them or against them. Dark Spirits NPCs also drop humanity when defeated and sometimes special loot. And they are not as OP bullshiters as in the Elden Ring. The amount of your active humanity shown on the left top corner beside HP and stamina bars. The higher the number, the better you loot drop rating is. It is also boost Chaos type damage. You can parry only attack from humanoid enemies wielding melee weapon. You can't parry animals, giant creatures and other wierd shit. You can't parry bosses except for one. You can parry attack even without a shield with just your empty left hand, it works the same. Small shields give you even more of the timing window than a standart shields like yours, but you actually doing great even as is. Covenants are the groups of characters that can give you rewards in exchange for serving their cause. Some of the covenants oriented for PvE, some for PvP (but can be completed in the offline as well). You get items, character interactions and some other benefits from ranking up in these covenants. If you join the covenant while already being a member of the other covenant then the abandoned covenant will treat you as a traitor. Characters from this covenant might even attack you on the spot for that. Fortunately there is a way to leave covenant without pissing everyone off and even making peace with characters you made hostile. You'll find it eventually. There is no FP for spells. Every spell have a fixed number of uses that replenish at bonfires. That's all I can think of. I really like your content, you are pretty cool. I'm looking forward for next episodes!
>Your weapon can break if it's durability drops to 0 and then it is lost forever. Not quite, Blacksmiths can repair a broken weapon; you can't repair a broken weapon yourself.
@@herpyderpy4366 that’s because as a new player he doesn’t realise that the joy of dark souls is discovering the mechanics for yourself, and the joy as a viewer is seeing them make the same mistakes you did and push through. Experienced players, or at least ones that didn’t use a guide the first time, know not to spoil anything. It’s all there to find out yourself. Watch KayPlays blind DS1, she figures it out, and she’s protected from “helpful” comments by her boyfriend who vets them for her
@@tequila_tibbs7938Exactly. The idiot above is spoiling chaos damage type in the first video itself. And even giving incorrect information regarding equipment breaking.
Oooooo this is going to be an amazing watch. I expect some frustration but I hope you have (or having since you're a few episodes in) a lot of fun with this game. I suggest (if you haven't already) that you read the description of all the items you collect if you wanna get the lore of the game since you're a fan of good lore. If you need any tips on stuff you missed or questions hope we can be helpful
Thank you not live streaming this haha. I am enjoying your Elden Ring playthrough atm but the chat can sometimes be overzealous in the information they give lol I still would have watched it but a pure 100% blind playthrough is truly the way to go! Excited to watch your journey through this game 👌
By the way, the way the damage numbers work are a little odd in ds1. When it says your light attack did 130 damage, that's the accumulative damage of all your attack in that short period. So the 130 is the total damage of a heavy plus a light attack because you attacked quickly.
Wow, when I played this game for the first time more than a decade ago: I just got wrecked so hard that I gave up for 2 years and then grudgingly returned and then fell in love with the game. It’s impressive how capable you are for your first blind run through! Props to you!!!!
Excited for this! You’re probably my favorite underrated blind Elden ring playthrough. Funny and chill, it feels like a game night with a friend :) I’m hoping you eventually get around to bloodborne, despite the often shitty framerate (please forgive it)
Maybe you have already figured it out and maybe you can change the button. But - jumping is done by sprinting with the circle button then quickly releasing circle and pressing it again. I’ve seen people talking about sprinting + L3 being jump, but that is how you jump in DS2 and DS3, not in DS1 as far as I can remember. LOVE that you’re doing this series!
@@ennayanneYes you can change it in ptde. Have it on PC myself though I personally prefer O/B single button use. I also only use Xbox controllers for PC games as PlayStation is the inferior console/controller.
Having not seen your Elden Ring playthrough I'm a bit confused by you being surprised that this game doesn't pause and that you seemed unfamiliar with having multiple weapons you could equip to each hand that you can switch between, which is essential for me when playing Elden Ring.
I've been hoping for this since your elden ring playthrough, it's my favourite in the series. Remember you can circle around enemies to get a sweet backstab
When it comes to shields the biggest stats to focus on are Physical Reduction and Stability which do not show on your stat page. The stats show the physical damage the shield will do if two handed as you can hit things with a shield albeit not very effectively. You may want to use a shield with high Fire Resistance for a fire based boss but for the most part how much Physical damage it can protect you from and how much stamina is sapped with each block is what's most important. The Heater shield is quite good with 100% physical and it's very light.
I agree, I hate blind playthrough on live stream, first you might get info on some things even if you specify for no spoilers, secondly I love watching people getting immersed into the game and not constantly lose focus to read the chat. I am just old school Let's player kind of guy.
I did not expect you to dive into this series as well. Been watching your Elden Ring playthrough and was wondering if you were gonna give this a shot. Have fun and remember to praise the sun!
Decided to watch this anyway, because I love DS1. Dude, your playthrough is already so much better than my first one was! You also figured out the best way to parry on your own. Not to mention kick and jump attacks which are hard to get in this game. Congrats and I hope to see more soon.
excited to see this journey after your time with elden ring!! the dark souls series has a special place in my heart, so seeing someone go in totally fresh is gonna be fun, haha!
I have to say it’s impressive how you managed to stay alive fighting those skeletons in the graveyard. I’m loving this playthrough and with the promise of more Souls to come you got my sub. I love how you reference Elden Ring lingo as well (i.e. saying runes in stead of souls). It’s usually the other way around so it’s fun.
I know I'm late, but I just want to say that I came across your videos by accident and that I already love them. I personally have been playing Dark Souls for a decade, and after a while the magic of the game disappears, but thanks to these types of videos, one can relive it. I really hope you play the next 2 games too! I'm definitely subscribing and will be watching your videos often!
@@LiquidBlitzPlays I'm glad you enjoyed it! DS1 has a certain charm that it never loses even when compared to Elden Ring. I hope you will enjoy the others too! I can't wait to see your reaction to DS2! Good luck! :)
Ah, I love these games. Regardless of whether it's myself behind the wheel or watching others experience 'em they never get old. Couple of helpful tips: - The small fire icon in the top right is just the game's auto save. It displays every so often like after killing an enemy or sitting at a bonfire. - Some animations such as ripostes, backstabs, and walking through fog walls in this game actually have i-frames tied to them so you're safe from anything else trying to attack you. - When you have your shield up, your stamina recovers much slower.
Yoooo! I'm so glad you're doing this one! This is my favorite of the FromSoft games. You'll certainly benefit from your Elden Ring experience, but I'll be curious to recap later with you about some of the novelties/design choices present in this game. Have fun!
If it hasn't been mentioned yet, just playing in online mode doesn't open you to invasions by itself, there's another thing in game you have to do for that. You won't see any player messages in offline mode though.
Blind playthroughs... love hate relationship. you had already discovered pressing the d-pad changed stuff, yet weren't able to think that it was the whole d-pad for swapping.
From what I know blocking is best for heavy armour slower set ups and rolling / parry is generally better for light armour and fast set ups because your ability to not get staggered and knocked off balance makes a big difference 🙃
No idea if you'd look at a comment on a year old video, but Taurus Demon jumping off the bridge is not an oversight. This game has invisible walls that only affect enemies, specifically designed to prevent bosses from falling off cliffs like that. The devs left them out of the Taurus Demon's boss room on purpose. The youtuber Illusory Wall has a video all about that kind of thing that you may or may not want to check out, if it intserests you.
(1/2) You have probably heard most of what I am about to say from other viewers, what with having completed Dark Souls already, but I want to give you my own, fresh impressions, which I kept jotting down while watching the episode (so please pardon the typos). Also, comments help to feed the RU-vid gods. Some of the things which made me chuckle or stood out to me in other ways: You turning a bit paler when discovering that the game cannot be paused. That's such a classic "Welcome to Dark Souls" moment. Your first death in the game - to gravity! Likely the most deadly adversary in DS, or at least a close second to the Dread Camera. Your enduring, erroneous assumption that jumping is not possible, leading to a wild theory about and subsequent loss of your first Ring of Sacrifice. Your off-hand remark "it's a problem that they all respawn". Your recurring, self-destructive choice to fight on the narrowest stairs/ledges around, and then falling to your doom as a consequence. You taking a solid two hours to reach Undead Burg (that's of course owed to graveyard shenanigans and not a problem at all, but funny to me). You not noticing the U.B. bonfire which was clearly visible, and messing with the spear bearers a few steps away instead (I'm glad you defeated them), followed by contemplating running off a roof as a test. You stumbling over the necessary flip-stick-and-press-button timing for kick and jump attack. Your confusion after experiencing the glory of invincibility-frames for the first time. Your repeated whiffing when trying to hit your first Crystal Lizard. You wildly overestimating your resistance to the Hellkite Drake's fire breath. [To be continued...]
I started playing DS a few weeks ago, and I just wanna say I'm really loving this playthrough and just subscribed! 💛💛I also tried playing blind at first but honestly was such an idiot and skipped on so many mechanics of the game it started feeling unfair. I was a sorcerer and tried to fight the Asylum Demon with the shitty ass dagger too 😭
Good going mate. I played this a year ago and it was my first souls game. I am still chasing the feeling i got from the challenge of this, knowing nothing going into it. I don't think i will ever find it. Hope you enjoyed ut so far ive just found your channel so subscribed and will continue watching 👍
I'm all for play at your own speed but for somebody called blitz, you're playing mighty slowly! At the 1:50:00 mark, you're about 15 minutes into a 100 hour game
With the Taurus Demon: There's a *chance* that he can drop his axe if you kill him legit, but it's a pretty rare drop. Edit: Solaire is a bro. Literally THE Sun Bro. Praise the Sun! \[T]/ Edit 2: Every time you see that flame appear in the upper right corner, that's the game auto-saving.
A rare drop from THIS guy, but..... (Spoilers, I guess)... ....Plenty of chances to pick one up later. And by then, you might actually have enough strength to use it.
It's awesome that Elden Ring opened up basically a whole genre for you! When you run out of Souls-likes to play you should check out the Kingsfield games also made by Fromsoft starting back on the PS1. The first one is like playing a first-person prototype of Dark Souls. Also you're going to love Bloodborne whenever you get to it.
I'd say this game is waaaaay easier in terms of combat than ER, but playing it totally blind on top of how obscure and archaic some mechanics are, it makes it harder. Like questlines, hidden locations, Curse halving your HP "permanently", etc.. Gameplay is easier, but it definitely doesn't hold your hand about stuff.
2:58:59 omg, this game continues to amaze me with new animations, the way you turned around only to take a bolt between the eyes and the way your character recoiled from it. Hilarious.
So in order to defeat the asylum demon before getting your starter weapons choosing the black firebombs are the best. It takes 5 bombs and the gift gives you 10. On PS controler the square button uses consumables.
Humanity can be absorbed at random from mobs. Used to kindle bonfires, which makes your flasks go to 10 uses instead of 5 when resting there. It also passively increases your item find. Beware, they'll drop when you die just like your souls. And if you fail to recover them become lost forever.
This is so refreshing to watch! I love that you try exploring to the max even if things don’t look possible, been a dark souls fan since my teens. It taught me how to actually enjoy boss fights rather than me shitting myself at the first sign of danger!😂 Great stuff! I’ll be watching more Subbing for sure
Just found this LP and very much looking forward to it. It can be a struggle trying to find the style of player I like to watch, particularly with Souls games. But you Sir appear to be on the money. Thank you.
I'm way late for this series, but I guess that's rather fitting. Gotta say it's great to see someone going blindly into these games these days. The positivity and willingness to learn from practically every encounter is definitely keeping me for the rest of the series!
I know this is old, but im super glad to be watching it now. I cringe and cry when you miss "obvious" stuff, but at the end of the day, I've never beaten the game as of yet. Just replayed the first third enough to know a lot of the secrets and whatnot, so its not a bad cringing. It's more like the anxious feeling of watching a horror movie when you know where the monster is and the main character doesnt know what they're in for yet. I can't wait to finish this series and find out if you've done 2 or 3 yet. ❤
I agree with you completely about not liking live streams exported to youtube. It's fine if there isn't much interaction but if it is a popular streamer or the stream is the main focus then it isn't really suitable for a vod in my opinion. It gets ruined.
also, if you block something, just attack, you dont always need to parry. most enemies that are close to the player characters size will have their attacks bounce off your shield if you block which leaves them wide open to an attack.
It's crazy hearing someone call souls runes and bonfires grace because it took me like 200 hours to stop calling runes souls. I will never stop calling graces bonfires though. Solid video.
You can use your finger to mash buttons without removing your thunbs from the r3 l3 and then use your middle finger for your trigger and bumper. This is standard dark soals grip to me
It's cool to see Elden Ring leading people to Dark Souls. I still have Dark Souls as being a top 3 game of all time. And I also think it has aged really well, the only thing a little clunky is the directional rolling only being 4 directional. I really enjoyed the story in Elden Ring, but the story here just hits me a lot harder. Sucks you can't play Bloodborne though, back to back masterpieces by Fromsoftware.
